  • This study is to examine how activities using local multi -cultural resources and world geography lessons using the CCAP(Cross-Cultural Awareness Programme) affect students' multi-cultural understanding. Activities using local multi-cultural resources were carried by visiting in an alien worker community, volunteering in multicultural center, attending on UNESCO ASP(Associated School Program), and making radio broadcasting program associated with 'SCN FM' which is a local broadcasting station on the weekend. And world geography lessons using the CCAP were conducted with 5 classes including orientation by inviting foreign instructors from that place after reconstructing the Southeast and South Asia unit of the countries such as Pakistan, the Philippines, Myanmar and Cambodia. According to twice questionnaire survey conducted before and after activities using local multi-cultural resources and world geography lessons using the CCAP, it appeared that students had familiarity more than before through direct meeting with foreigners inside and outside classroom, and understood and respected other cultures by acquiring contextual regional knowledge. In the end, multi-cultural activities and world geography lessons using the CCAP contributed to students' global citizenship, which overcame prejudice toward third world cultures. Like that, if world geography classes provide continually students with opportunities to experience directly diverse cultures inside and outside classroom, world geography overcome negative image that it transmit decontextual regional knowledge and is regarded as the subject that is very fit for nurturing global citizenship based on contextual knowledge, consideration and tolerance needed in global and multi-cultural society.

  • Describing the filmography of Yong-ho KIM simply in a few sentences is considered nearly impossible. For the last 20 years and longer, KIM has been building up his career energetically as he never lets himself obsessed with any particular boundaries or areas but work on everything from paper advertisements to art galleries, advertising photographs and pure photographs. The Photolanguage personally mentioned by Yong-ho KIM himself is to visualize this imaginary story in a form of photograph, which one would come up with before shooting. When it comes to the advertising photographs, since they are used basically to sell products, they are considered rather temporary, and in addition, they photograph the products mostly under these bright lights with colorful backgrounds behind. However, Yong-ho KIM was recognized for presenting very much different work as he went even beyond these old stereotypes of the advertising photographs. The advertising photographs processed by KIM do more than merely introducing details or functions of some products, but they deliver these values and cultures that consumers can enjoy and gain through these original stories about the products. Of several pieces of KIM's work, this advertisement on Hyundai Card named was invited to an exhibition by a private gallery after the work was exposed through various media. The work was even purchased, and that was something that had not happened before in the history of the relevant field. When a photograph is purchased, it makes the photograph recognized for its value to be possessed, and when a photograph is displayed, it, again, makes the photograph win recognition as an art work. This thesis discusses the Photolanguage found in the works of Yong-ho KIM, one of the most well-known advertising photographers in South Korea. The research inquiries that have been analyzed in the body of the thesis, therefore, are the photographs and language in the digital era, the story-telling advertisements and these works by Yong-ho KIM.

  • Geography textbooks often have treated the world as a collection of independent nations. Also, many scholars have warned of ethnocentric bias in geography textbooks. Global education that emphasizes world interdependence and pursues global perspectives offers some possibilities to go beyond the status quo of current World Geography textbooks. The primary objective of this study is to analyze current US World Geography textbooks in terms of global education. A secondary objective is to explore a framework for rereading World Geography textbooks critically. This interpretive qualitative case study indicates that US World Geography textbooks maintain an imperialist and American-centered perspective. Especially, the case of Korea shows that other places and people are underrepresented through dichotomy, negative attitude and exclusion, misconception and stereotyping, and simplification in textbooks. Therefore, we need to detect conscious and unconscious fallacy and bias, to understand the world view and experiences of underrepresented people, and to deal with controversial global issues from diverse perspectives through global perspectives and post-colonial perspectives of global education.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the contents of elderly housing in the unit "Family Life & Housing" in Technology & Home Economics 9th grade textbooks. The results of this study are as follows: First, the contents, illustrations, pictures, floor-plans, graphs and tables in current unit "Family Life & Housing" varied widely among textbooks and some didn't even contain these informations. Illustrations and pictures which are suit to the content and which contain positive image of space and living should be chosen. Second, most of the contents about elderly housing were concentrated on the life cycle, three-generation housing and universal design, discussed in chapter 'utility of living space.' The unification of overlapped contents and description which don't have stereotype about elderly housing are needed. Not only the interior environment but also the exterior environment of the elders and life-support service for them should be included in the contents. Contents that reflect the change of future population composition and the ratio of three-generation household are required. The elderly housing floor plan needs to be diversified in quantity such as ones which reflect the Korean characteristics or ones which enable person an independent life.

로 금형설계 및 제작기간을 단축하고자 한다.ere demonstrated in rats after i.c.v., intraperitoneally and orally administration, respectively. The antiepileptical effects by the combination of compounds from ginseng; were compared with the iuluence of Rg1, Rb1, Rc and with the well known antiepileptical drugs such as carbamazepine, valproic acid. The base for the research is obtained by using the WAG/Rij strain (Luijtelaar, Coenen, Kuznetcova), an excellent genetic model for human generalized absence epilepsy. The improving action of gensinosides was effectively demonstrated on the model of electrical kindling of amygdala of WAG/Rij rats with genetically determined absences, and the influences of ginsenosides on the slow wave discharges have also been being investigated. The different characteristics of a kindling process exerted in the sex-different region of the amygdala and demonstrated that the level of sex steroids and content of neurosteroids in amygdaloid tissue ca

  • Recently there have been various research activities regarding Korean traditional aesthetics. However, those researches were mainly conducted individually, partially, and periodically, which resulted in unsystematic and incomprehensive works. Therefore, it is required to orginze all the precedent research works with more systematic and objective framework. Generally speaking, all the human activities including aesthetic activity have ends, procedure and means. In other words, human being needs three key elements for realizing any thought and those three elements include contents, formal, and practical element. Element of contents is ultimate goal to accomplish as value, concept, and meaning of thought with their aims. Formal element includes methods, principles, norms, procedure, formality and style comprising of thought in order to accomplish the goal. Finally, practical element refers to specific means, tool, media, material and techniques to concretize the contents through form. Almost all of thoughts and meaning which human being tries to express consist of language. Major elements in sentence include 'subject (omissible)' , 'objects (aim)', 'predicate (formality)', 'complement (means)' and they are composed systematically and hierarchically with rules in sentence. The study compared human activity model with language structure and analyzed their implication with design (aesthetics), which made it possible to propose analytic frameworks for traditional aesthetics. In addition, the study also systematically organized the way to realize traditional aesthetic value in the present context based on the methods developed in this study.

  • This study draws the following conclusions about the nature garden culture with crane that is a dynamic landscaping factor introduced into nature garden by analyzing the literatures on cranes written and landscapes painted in Chosun Dynasty. First, crane symbolizes such Buddhist, Taoist and Confucius media as appearance of Buddha, desire for Taoist hermit world and long life, and a solitary's life of proud loneliness. It has been recorded that crane was raised from the Three Nations Era till the Japanese occupation and Confucius scholars in Chosun Dynasty opened shows concerning crane or formed literature groups enjoying poems of it, and often using crane as their denial of going into government service. Second, in order to introduce crane to nature garden, people caught wild crane and made a fence and some kind of pond for their growth. In addition, crane was strictly managed by appointed slaves and they trained crane for dancing and then tended to allow a crane to play on the yard in terms of abstract meaning or got two cranes free in consideration of their ecology. Third, for more appreciation of crane and the expression of some symbolism matching for it, both plum and pine, which mean a solitary's life and long life respectively, were planted in nature garden. And, Confucius scholars in Chosun Dynasty also enjoyed their refined tastes with appreciation, napping, reading and playing the harp, accompanied by crane. As aforementioned, Confucius scholars in Chosun Dynasty did not only draw the meaning symbolized by cranes and write poems about such symbolic meaning, but also positively introduce crane into nature garden as a dynamic landscaping factor, so that they enjoyed synesthetic senses including looks, motions and sounds of cranes for their refined tastes.

  • In the early days of human history, the governing groups of rulers needed to justify their rule. The cause of rule became the ruling ideology. In China, the backbone of the ruling ideology was originally referred to as 'Di(帝)' or 'Shangdi(上帝)', who was later replaced by 'Tian(天)', Heaven. So there was a claim that Heaven gave the cause of the rule. This idea is the 'Tianming (天命)' idea. When the Zhou(周) Dynasty took control of the central government, the 'Tianming' idea had had a relatively sophisticated form. It was the 'Zhouli(周禮)' that organized the systematic order of the Zhou Dynasty. After this system collapsed, those who recognized 'Zhouli' as a desirable social system considered the collapse of 'Zhouli' as a situation of turbulent age. It was Qin(秦) State that unified all of the states of the period. However, after the unification, the Qin Dynasty fell sharply. The next dynasty was the Han(漢) Dynasty. The new ruling powers of the Han Dynasty needed to justify their regime. That means that it was necessary to establish the ruling ideology of the Han Dynasty. The representative of the ruling ideology of the Han Dynasty was Dongzhongshu, whose thought was based on Confucianism. His thought was related to "Chunqiugongyangzhuan(春秋公羊傳)", an interpretation of "Chunqiu(春秋)". This interpretation perspective is based on the idea of religious Heaven. Dongzhongshu thought that there were co-communions between Heaven and humans. His thought has the meaning of political theology in which rulers hold the basis of the rulers' sovereignty.

  • As for the methodology of physical science, on the one side, Ludwig Boltzmann was declined to Scientific Realist and at the same time Epistemological Idealist. But on the other. He was neither fully nor consistently either one of them, because of rejecting the causal realism of the former and the belief in absolute certainty of the latter. Is there nevertheless any evidence that he had a coherent world view of his own? Yes. In short, he seems to identify his own position with what is called a mind-matter identity theory. In 1897, he supported that psychological processes are identical with certain processes in the brain(realism). And in 1903, he said : "Physics is not separated from psychology. They are only different sides." But Boltzmann did not explain concretely the possibility of this identity. So I tried to construct one theory of identity which is suitable for understanding problems n the physical world, though whether it would work for a full-scale world view which includes both physical and mental phenomena remains problematic. If light phenomena, for example, tend to be measured in terms of some contexts as if light were a wave and in others as if light were a particle, then one may be able to reasonably suppose that light has whatever characteristics in itself which it must have in order to seem like a wave under some conditions of measurement and like a particle in others. If this theory is provisionally to mental phenomena as well, it would mean that reality has those characteristics in itself which it must have to appear as it does to the various faculties of the mind and as it is measured in different physical situations. This is probably not what Boltzmann meant by his theory of identity, since it is very ontological and metaphysical. But in my opinion it is by far the most reasonable identity theory.
