This study investigated two science teachers' practical knowledge shaped during their science classes which intend to realize social construction of scientific models. The teachers' practical knowledge was qualitatively examined in terms of five content categories defined by Elbaz through the reflection-in-action based on video data of their teaching as well as the reflection-on-action based on their narratives and interview data obtained after their classes. The results shows: 1) two science teachers implemented their practical knowledge on appropriate subject matter knowledge when they provided students with scaffoldings to support building scientific models during the classes. 2) The teachers' knowledge about science curriculum played important roles to change the purposes of the classes from the transmission of difficult science concepts to the construction of scientific model appropriate to learning goals. 3) The teachers' implementation of pedagogical knowledge changed toward supporting students' group activities and model generations aligned to the intention of social construction of scientific models. 4) The teachers' practical knowledge about their 'selves' showed that a teacher's perception and implementation of his/her roles of helper, guide, or facilitator are important for students to construct scientific models through group activities. 5) The two teachers' practical knowledge the milieu of schooling is realized by their modes of interactions with student groups during their classes. Two teachers acted like a co-player with his students or like a coach to students near a playground. We discussed domain-specific characteristics about scientific model construction.
Technical change and technological innovation have become major drivers of economic progress in the knowledge oriented economies where growth, productivity, and competitiveness are increasingly based on improved technologies, novel products, upgraded processes or customized services. The creation of new knowledge, modifying or improving existent knowledge, or imitation of others, has become central to economic development. New discoveries, state-of-the-art information gathering procedures, or successful problem solving routines are often at he core of these innovations. Despite the generally acknowledged importance of science in many high-tech areas of major economic relevance, there is few science-related statistics to be found in high-profile international benchmarking reports. This paper aims to provide an answer by advancing our understanding of the possibilities of indicators quantifying linkages between science and technology. Central are the concepts of innovation capability and science/technology interface, which are used to assemble a wide range of empirical studies and quantitative indicators to summarize their possibilities and limitations for producing comparative statistics. For the purpose of the study, we extracted the US patents by Korean assignees or inventors, scientific papers cited in the patents in order to analyze the characteristics of linkage of scientific knowledge flows. The review focuses on indicators dealing with flows of written or codified information, and indicators of inventiveness that capture the non-codifiable tacit knowledge dimension. General conclusions will be drawn with a view towards further developments in the foreseeable future, suggesting new avenues for the design and implementation of patent-based and inventor-based relationships between scientific research and technical development within the context of regional or national systems of innovation.

This study investigated the components of science teacher professionalism, the meaning of PCK (Pedagogical Content Knowledge), examples of science PCK, and complementary measures that should be taken to improve teacher professionalism. Six science teachers recommended by their colleagues explained that the science teacher's professionalism (or professional knowledge) consists of science content knowledge, knowledge about teaching, knowledge about learners, and improvement efforts. Science teachers' definition of PCK, which is the professional knowledge that members of the wider society expect teachers to possess, is the teacher's materialized knowledge that aims at students' understanding and PCK is the accumulated know-how of teachers as they strive to make their teaching comprehensible by students. Science teachers also contended that teachers as professionals need to complement an accountability system, acknowledgement of continuous self-developmental efforts, collegiality, and securing validity in the teacher employment test. The teachers argued that the societal recognition of teaching professionalism is essential for a high quality teaching. Suggestions for how to improve science teaching professionalism are also discussed.
Computational science is at an early stage and is not yet fully active, and the high-performance computing required in the field of computational science is at present a special subject of parallel and distributed computing in computer science. Additionally, there are too few education courses which teach high-performance computing from basic to advanced levels. In this study, we derive the knowledge units needed to learn high-performance computing, an important research tool in computational science. Using ACM the Computer Science Curricula 2013 (CS2013), we examine the validity and reliability of 89 knowledge units and eleven knowledge units with high validity and reliability, after which nine core knowledge units and two optional knowledge units are proposed. The eleven proposed knowledge units are expected to contribute to the development of the high-performance computing curriculum necessary to teach computational science.

Hypothesis is defined as a proposition intended as a possible explanation for an observed phenomenon. The purpose of this study was to generate a grounded theory on the process of undergraduate students' generating hypothesis-knowledge about scientific episodes. Three hypothesis-generating tasks were administered to four college students majored in science education. The present study showed that college students represented five types of intermediate knowledge in the process of hypothesis generation, such as question situation, hypothetical explicans, experienced situation, causal explicans, and final hypothetical knowledge. Furthermore, students used six types of thinking methods, such as searching knowledges, comparing a question situation and an experienced situation, borrowing explicans, combining explicans, selecting an explican, and confirming explicans. In addition, hypothesis-generating process involves inductive and deductive reasoning as well as abductive reasoning. This study also discusses the implications of these findings for teaching and evaluating in science education.
The purpose of this study was to investigate secondary science teachers' PCK components and subcomponents that are specific to online and offline learning environment. Data collection consisted of survey, class observation, and individual interviews of twelve science teachers. This study used a theoretical framework of PCK for deductive data analysis and articulated codes and themes through the following inductive analysis. Data analysis revealed that each of PCK components showed different specificity to the online and offline learning environment. And subcomponents of each PCK component were different according to the specificity of the online and offline learning environment. Teaching orientation toward science had a specific orientation for the online learning environment, i.e., 'learning science concept' and 'lecture centered instruction.' Knowledge of the science curriculum had online-offline mixed learning environment specific knowledge, i.e., 'reorganization of curriculum' and online learning environment specific knowledge, i.e., 'development of learning goal' and 'science curricular materials.' Knowledge of science teaching strategies had online learning environment specific knowledge, i.e., 'topic-specific strategy', 'subject-specific strategy', and 'interaction strategy' and COVID-19 offline learning environment specific knowledge, i.e., 'topic-specific strategy' and 'interaction strategy'. Knowledge of student science understanding had online learning environment specific knowledge, i.e., 'student preconception', 'student learning difficulty', 'student motivation and interest', and 'student diversity' and COVID-19 offline learning environment specific knowledge, i.e., student learning difficulty'. Knowledge of science assessment had online-offline mixed learning environment specific knowledge and online learning environment specific knowledge, i.e., assessment contents and assessment methods for each.
The relationships between science, technology, and industry are very complicated and vary according to time. Thus, it would be almost impossible to combine the three categories in a single model. However, the linking of science, technology, and industry, which are divided according to their respective classification standards, is a starting point from which to understand how science and technology, technology and industry, and further science, technology, and industry are related to each other. Studies have been carried out to analyze the relationship between science and technology and between technology and industry, whereas no study has been undertaken to get an overall view of science, technology, and industry. Since an appropriate methodology or an analytical model has not been suggested, this paper proposes a model for generally analyzing science, technology, and industry. More specifically, this paper examines the methodology for linking science, technology, and industry. This paper uses citation analysis to analyze knowledge flow such as absorption and utilization of given knowledge, looks at the provision of knowledge to create new knowledge, and examines the use of network analysis to analyze the complicated phenomenon of knowledge flow. This paper proposes an empirical study of trend analysis of technological innovation by looking into a linkage structure of knowledge flow among science, technology, and industry based on the classification linkage and analysis methodology using scientific paper and patents.

Recently, several studies have been carried on knowledge flow of science, technology, industry to establish STI policy. Still it is in need of studies on relationship of science-industry although there have been studied only in aspect of science-technology relationship or technology-industry relationship. This paper's purpose is to propose method to measure knowledge flow among science, technology, and industry by means of patent citation by USPTO. After gathering knowledge flow data between science and technology through mapping citing patent and cited pater, it gets knowledge flows data between technology-industry by using OTC (OECD Technology Concordance), technology-industry mapping program. Based on these knowledge flow data, it examines knowledge flow science to industry by applying overlap function that is a network link weight function.
