  • The appearance of larvae of a rare species, Peristedion liorhynchus, in Korean waters is suggestive of spawning or adult intrusion. We conducted high-throughput sequencing (HTS) on 31,776 pelagic fish eggs collected from 123 stations off the Korean Peninsula during May to August in 2013, 2014 and 2017. A total of 21,621,874 HTS reads were mapped onto the P. liorhynchus COX1 reference sequence. Three consensus sequences (313 bp) were constructed from the three samples, respectively, off Uljin and Goeje Islands in May and off Ulsan in July. These samples were formed a clade with P. liorhynchus in the maximum likelihood tree of Peristedion. The average genetic distance within the P. liorhynchus clade (0.0054±0.0046) was less than that among clades (0.1475±0.0396). The results indicate that the HTS analysis of mixed fish eggs is useful for monitoring the intrusion of rare species such as P. liorhynchus in Korean waters.

  • Terrestrial magnetism has left traces through residues such as fossils of the terrestrial magnetism as time went by. An analysis of archaeological terrestrial magnetism is an estimation of dates of archaeological remains where baked earth is exposed by measuring the change of the past terrestrial magnetism through thermo-remnant magnetization of baked earth. This paper attempts to apply an analysis of the archaeological terrestrial magnetism to archaeological remains using fourteen soil samples extracted from a charcoal kiln with side window located at the Area Ⅰ of Maegokdong. The date of A.D.440${\pm}$15 the analysis of archaeological terrestrial magnetism came up with gives solid evidence, while an archeological chronicle used arrangements of surrounding artifacts because of the absence of remains and assumed uncertainly that a charcoal kiln with side window was from the three kingdom periods. This analysis of archaeological terrestrial magnetism has come to anchor as a main natural scientific analysis because it relatively easily removes pollutants and comes up with highly reliable results owing to its considerably narrow error tolerance of assumed dates.

  • In this study, it was investigated the possible mechanisms by which glutamine deprivation exerts its anti-proliferative action in cultured human prostate carcinoma PC3 cells. Glutamine deprivation resulted in inhibition of growth and G2/M arrest of the cell cycle in a time-dependent manner without apoptosis induction, as determined by MTT assay, DAPI staining and flow cytometry analyses. The induction of G2/M arrest by glutamine deprivation was associated with the inhibition of expression of Cdc2, cyclin A and cyclin B1, and up-regulation of the expression of cyclin-dependent kinase (Cdk) inhibitor p21(WAF1/CIP1) in both transcriptional and translational levels. Moreover, glutamine deprivation increased the phosphorylation of checkpoint kinase (Chk)1 and Chk2; however, the levels of Cdc25C phosphorylation were decreased in response to glutamine deprivation in a time-dependent manner. Our data provide a first biochemical evidence that glutamine deprivation suppresses cell viability through G2/M phase arrest without induction of apoptosis in PC3 cells.

  • Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease, which is mainly characterized by disease of joints affected with synovial hyperplasia, pathological immune response, and progressive destruction; all of which represent an important social health problem. These provide new insights in its pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis and disease progression in molecular changes. This review focuses on new serological and immunological markers which seem to be useful in early diagnosis and prognosis of rheumatoid arthritis. Therefore, such tests are widely conducted for serological biomarkers and the developments with such immunological factors to identify patients who are at risk for disease progression. This evidence of the disease based on laboratory medicine could provide the best outcome for patients. Finally, data from recent studies will help to refine the ultimate usefulness of this novel approach for early diagnosis, treatment, and helping clinicians to optimize therapy by using this approach.

  • Based on mineral assemblages, field occurrences, the volcanic rocks distributed in the Geumdang Island area are divided into three types: rhyolite, porphyritic rhyolite and intermediated dyke rock. In a diagram of [TAS (total alkali-silica)], rhyolites and porphyritic rhyolites belong to the rhyolite-dacite field and rhyolite field, respectively. As to the times when the rhyolite and porphyritic rhyolite rocks were formed a whole rock K-Ar age was obtained. These absolute age determinations have revealed that the former (rhyolite) has an age of 76-78 Ma and belongs to the Late Cretaceous (Campanian) and the latter (porphyritic rhyolite) is 71-72 Ma in age and thus belongs to the boundary between the Campanian and Maastrichtian. These geological ages are associated with the igneous activity of the Yuchon Group which occurred vigorously in the southern part of the Korean peninsula during the Late Cretaceous. The various geological ages of volcanic rocks distributed in the southwestern part of the peninsula and of igneous rocks found in the Cretaceous formation which contain a wide variety of minerals indicate that in this area, volcanic activities continued vigorously as a result of the collision of the Eurasian and Pacific Plates between 108-71 Ma.

  • Japan and Korea have developed forest therapy policies, but their policies differ in several respects. First, Forest therapy projects are managed by local governments and residents in Japan, while they are operated by Korea Forest Service. Second, Japan adopts the certification system of forest therapy areas, emphasizes medical and scientific evidences, maintains the quality of forest therapy by inducing competitive participation of local governments and residents, and cultivates forest therapists through Forest Therapy Society. In contrast, Korea has adopted the licence system, improved institutional framework, and cultivated therapists, but it is at early stage. Third, Japanese forest therapy policy aims at regional development of the mountain villages, overlapping with other local policies. However, in Korea, the primary policy goal is to expand forest services and thereby having its own policy framework and being promoted strongly.

  • As the multimedia data increase a lot with the rapid development of the Internet, an efficient retrieval technique focusing on individual users is required based on the analyses of such data. However, user modeling services provided by recent web sites have the limitation of text-based page configurations and recommendation retrieval. In this paper, we construct the user preference model with a Bayesian network to apply the user modeling to video retrieval, and suggest a method which utilizes probability reasoning. To do this, context information is defined in a real office environment and the video scripts acquired from established cameras and annotated the context information manually are used. Personal information of the user, obtained from user input, is adopted for the evidence value of the constructed Bayesian Network, and user preference is inferred. The probability value, which is produced from the result of Bayesian Network reasoning, is used for retrieval, making the system return the retrieval result suitable for each user's preference. The usability test indicates that the satisfaction level of the selected results based on the proposed model is higher than general retrieval method.

  • This paper aims at providing a critical review of Alva Noe's enactive theory of perception. The discussion will be organized around the three issues: (i) Does the body make an ineliminable contribution to shaping the mind? (ii) Does Noe succeed in providing effective arguments against the brain-centrism? (iii) Does Noe's theory give a satisfactory explanation of how we can perceive external objects? In the sections 2 and 3 of the paper, I discuss possible criticisms that can be raised against Noe with regard to (i) and (ii). Although these are serious criticisms, they apply to the embodied cognition in general. That is, those criticisms are not restricted to Noe's theory. In order to understand the core aspect of Noe's theory, we need to pay attention to "the problem of perceptual presence" that is brought up in (iii). It is here that Noe's theory is supposed to make a distinct contribution to the discussion about the nature of perception. I argue, however, in the section 4 that Noe's theory fails to provide a satisfactory explanation of perceptual presence.

  • First investigation is urgent investigation activities to arrest and to obtain evidence at the beginning of the incident. If the first investigation is wrong, the crime will not be solved or a lot of evidence will be disappeared. Therefore, if the first investigation is wrong, Wasting a lot of manpower and budget, or the other victims are to occur. First investigation is the crime scene centered investigation, victim centered investigation and damaged goods centered investigation. The crime scene centered investigation is the investigation on the discovery of dropped objects, to confirm thd date of offense, on the discovery of witnesses. Victim centered investigation is the investigation of victim's personal information, the living conditions of the family, fellowship and home interior matter. Damaged goods centered investigation is the investigation on the place of crime damaged goods and the movement route of crime damaged goods. In order to reinforce the investigative capacity of police first investigation, It is needed to reinforce the education on the first investigation, to conduct continuously for FTX (field training), to product the manual for first investigation, to build a case analysis system, to develop of forensic techniques and the coordination of national. The police should be giving people faith from the first investigation.

  • The main purpose of this study is to examine whether power-of-speech have an impact on persuasion in radio CM and to determine what is stronger variable either power-of-speech or sex of source. Previous research showed confused result about this issue. Some research supposed the effect of power-of-speech depend on sex of source/Carli, 1990) but the others supposed it is not(Holtgraves & Lasky, 1999; Erickson, Lind, Johnson, & O'Barr, 1978). So present research is designed to show empirical evidence about this issue examining the interaction between effect of power-of-speech and sex of source. Result revealed that power-of-speech affects strongly on persuasion and that effect have no interaction with sex of source. This result means that the effect of power-of-speech is stronger than the effect of sex of source. But in attitude toward product exceptionally, female source using powerful speech induce more favorable attitude toward product than female source using powerless speech whereas male source using powerful and powerless speech induce same attitude toward product.
