This study was evaluated mass production processes for flour noodles containing perilla leaf (FNPL) and to examine the antioxidant properties of FNPL. The processes for perilla leaf preparation before dough making were the main focus. The sensory evaluation was used as a tool to determine the optimal conditions for each step in the process. The appearance, taste, flavor, texture and overall acceptability were evaluated using a 9 point scale sensory evaluation. Eight minutes blanching of perilla leaf in boiling water (1:30, w/v) was found to be a suitable time to remove the unpleasant leaf flavor remaining in the final noodle product when fresh perilla leaf was used. The appearance, taste, texture and overall acceptability of FNPL were significantly different from FNPLs prepared with other blanching times. The appearance of FNPL containing 40% (w/v) perilla leaf homogenates was the best. In the dough making process, additional water was not required when 6 portions of 40% perilla leaf homogenate were added to 10 portions of flour, suggesting that the water adding step in the dough preparation process can be skipped. The antioxidant activity of FNPL was expressed as the radical scavenging activity. The DPPH ($IC_{50}$; 0.56 mg/mL), super oxide radical ($IC_{50}$; 9.53 mg/mL) and hydroxy radical scavenging activities ($IC_{50}$; 169.2 ${\mu}g$/mL) of FNPL were increased 19.6 (p<0.001), 1.4 (p<0.01) and 17.8 fold, respectively, compared to those for flour noodle (p<0.001). In conclusion, perilla leaf added to noodles at a final concentration of 19% (w/w) can increase the sensory and antioxidant properties of flour noodles.

This study was carried out to investigate the pesticide residue pattern among different leafy vegetables applied with foliar spraying under greenhouse and to check extrapolating from some residue trial data to other minor crops. Leafy vegetables used in this study were: Mustard greens (Brassica juncea L.), Kale (Brassica oleracea L.), Dacheongchae (a kind of pak-choi (Brassica rapa subsp. chinensis L.)), Leaf broccoli (Brassica oleracea var alboglabra), Perilla leaf (Perilla frutescens (L.) Britton var. Frutescens), Leaf lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.), Swiss chard (Beta vulgaris L. subsp. vulgaris) and Red leaf chicory (Cichorium intybus L. var. foliosum Hegi). These are cultivated all year under indoor or outdoor and cut the leaf from plant continuously during harvest time. The amounts of pesticide deposit in/on the continuous harvesting leafy vegetables were affected by the ratios of leaf area to weight. Ratio of perilla leaf was the largest among crops as 58 $cm^2/g$. The residue levels of 7 pesticides in/on perilla leaf were the highest than those of other crops through the statistical analysis from zero day to fifth day after last application. The representative crop in 8 crops was perilla leaf selected based on the amounts of daily consumption and the high residues. This study suggest that the continuous harvesting leafy greens should be separated from the one time harvesting leafy vegetables for the pesticide recommendations because of different harvesting habits and pre-harvest intervals.
Pesticides were sprayed on perilla leaf and leafy lettuce in a greenhouse and the reduction rate of pesticide residues on each vegetable by washing were tested. The reduction rate of pesticide residues by washing for 30 sec~3 min on perilla leaf were 3~63% in tap water, 2~58% in salt water, 6~74% in green tea water, and 8~86% in detergent solution. The detergent solution only showed significant difference in reduction rates compared to the tab water washing. Considering reduction effects of the washing duration, it was showed that the reduction rates were a pattern of inclining as the duration of washing process increased, but there was no significant difference in the reduction rates except the reduction rates between washing in the detergent solution for 1 min and 3 min. Comparing washing in flowing tab water and in stagnant tab water with leafy lettuce, the reduction rate by one time washing were 8~68% in flowing tab water and 7~64% in stagnant tab water. The water and the time used in this experiment were 17.5 L, 2.9 min with flowing tab water and 4 L, 1 min with stagnant tab water. The reduction rate by 3 times washing in stagnant tab water were 16.5~76.6%, and the water and the time used were 12 L, 3 min. Therefore, when the water and the time used to wash vegetables were considered, washing two or three times in stagnant tab water could be more effective than washing one time in flowing tab water.

This study was carried out to investigate the residual characteristics and calculate processing factor of the environment friendly material matrine in fresh chilli pepper by drying. Spray solution of matrine was prepared by dilution of the commercial product (2% active ingredient) with water at 1 : 1000 (v/v) ratio and sprayed onto chilli pepper plants at seven day intervals. Samples were collected at 0, 1, 3, 5 and 7 days after last application and then dried using a hot air dry oven at $60^{\circ}C$ for 36 hours until the water content was reduced to 14%. Recoveries and storage period stabilities of matrine in the samples ranged from 106.6 to 119.1% and 106.6 to 113.1%, respectively. The residual concentrations of matrine in fresh chilli pepper and dried chilli peppers treated only once were found to be from less than 0.01 to 0.11 and from 0.03 to 0.25 mg/kg, respectively. In case of plants sprayed twice with matrine, the residual concentrations ranged from 0.02 to 0.12 and from 0.04 to 0.4 mg/kg, respectively. Processing factor of matrine in the fresh chilli pepper by drying was found to be from 1.5 to 3.3, indicating that the residual concentration of matrine in dried chilli pepper increased about two or three times by drying.

Both 13-week and 1-year studies in dog were required for pesticide registration in domestic pesticide control authority. It is raising issue up whether to request 1-year dog study of pesticides using non-food crop. So at this investigation, relevant toxicity test to establish acceptable daily intake (ADI), target organs, difference of no-observed adverse-effect levels (NOAELs) in 13-week and 1-year of 166 active ingredients are analyzed. The data were evaluated to determine if the 13-week dog study and the long term studies in two rodent species (mice and rats) without 1-year dog study were sufficient for the identification of NOAELs and lowest observed adverse effect levels (LOAELs) for the derivation of ADI. Toxicity end points and dose response data from 13 week and 1-year studies were compared. The analysis showed that 68 ADIs of the 166 pesticides were established from dog studies. Major target organs of dog studies were liver in 49 cases, body weight change in 21 cases, cholinesterase inhibition in 16 cases, and alteration in hematology in 14 cases. Similarity of target organ in 13-week and 1-year was 73%. 22 of 40 pesticides had similar critical effects regardless of duration and had NOAELs within a difference of 1.5-fold of each other. For the remaining 18 pesticides, 14 items had lower NOAELs in the 1-year study than 13-week study primarily due to dose selection and spacing. In only 10% of the cases were additional toxic effects identified in the 1-year study that were not observed in the 13-week study.
When haploid plant would be appeared by the anther culture, the large quantity of young plant multiplied maternal inheritance and the same pure line rapidly in the short length of time, which will be effected to cut down much expences efforts and time for the production of seeds or seedlings. Therefore, the development of the technique for this would be much profited in the country industry. In the late of a few years studies were early attempted in this field, but up this time there were a few success of plants only and none of perennial plant. In this status of the country condition required earnestly for the development of the green industry, this researcher attempted to culture the anther of late uninucleate microspore or early binucleate microspore of the Prunus mume and other three psecies, economic trees estimated specially economic, on the place of Modified Murashige and Skoog's medium supliment with Kinetine, 2.4-D, and N.A.A for inducing haploid plants. The obtained results were as follows: 1. 2,000 anthers were cultured and there were shown that 2N callus in Prunus mume had 82 as 4.1%, 2N callus in Prunus tomentosa 15 as 0.8%, 2 N callus in Prunus salisina 75 as 4% 2. N callus had shown 40 as 2% from Prunus armeniaca var. ansu only, and the other trees showed all 2N callus. 3. Callus had appeared in every tree but 2N callus appeared was all filaments and there showed from only connective tissue N callus appeared was all from anther locule inside. 4. Then Prunus armeniaca var. ansu only was not callus of somatic anther tissue origin, but as there was callus origined from microspore which was changed in to swollen microspores or polynucleate microspores, it was certained to need haploid plant.
The objective of this research was to develop the functional material of water and 60% ethanol extracts from nine kinds of mulberry fruits (Morus alba L.) that influence the inhibitory activity on angiotensin-converting enzyme, xanthine oxidase, ${\alpha}$-amylase, and ${\alpha}$-glucosidase. The total phenolic contents in the water extracts were over 2 mg/g in two species (Cheongilppong and Kangwon III) and five species (Daeyoupchosaeng, Cheongilppong, Kangwon III, Hihak, and Cataneo) of 60% ethanol extracts. The inhibitory activity against the angiotensin-converting enzyme was determined with them. Baekwoon III was $90.9{\pm}4.5%$ in the water extracts, and Hihak was $81.8{\pm}4.5%$ in the 60% ethanol extracts. The inhibitory activity of Kuksang 20 against xanthin oxidase was about 10% in the water extracts, and Cataneo was $21.4{\pm}2.3%$ in the 60% ethanol extracts. Six of the species (Daeyoupchosaeng, Suwonppong, Cheongilppong, Kangwon III, Hihak, and Kuksang 20) in the water extracts showed inhibitory activities against ${\alpha}$-amylase, as 100%, respectively. The inhibitory activity of ${\alpha}$-glucosidase was determined for these nine species. Four species (Baekwoon III, Daeyoupchosaeng, Cheongilppong, Kangwon III, Hihak, and Kuksang 20) in the water extracts and three species (Daechoukmyeun, Kangwon III, and Kuksang 20) in the 60% ethanol extracts showed inhibition of over 20%. The results revealed strong biological activity in spite of little total phenolic contents. These water and 60% ethanol extracts with high-quality biological activity from various mulberry fruits (Morus alba L.) are expected to represent good candidates for the development of antihypertentive and antidiabetes sources.
Fomesafen is a selective herbicide, and used to control annual and perennial broad-leaf grass on soybean and fruit fields in USA and China, but not introduced in Korea yet. So, MRL (Maximum Residue Level), and analytical method of fomesafen were not establishment in Korea. Therefore, this experiment was conducted to establish a determination method for fomesafen residue in crops using HPLC-UVD/MS. Fomesafen residue was extracted with acetone from representative samples of five raw products which comprised hulled rice, soybean, apple, green pepper, and Chinese cabbage. The extract was diluted with saline water, and dichloromethane partition was followed to recover fomesafen from the aqueous phase. Florisil column chromatography was additionally employed for final clean up of the extract. The fomesafen was quantitated by HPLC with UVD, using a Shiseido CAPCELL-PAK UG C18 column. The crops were fortified with fomesafen at 3 levels per crop. Mean recovery ratio were ranged from 87.5% for a 0.4 ppm in hulled rice to 102.5% for a 0.4 ppm in apple. The coefficients of variation were ranged from 0.6% for a 2.0 ppm in hulled rice to 7.7% for a 0.04 ppm in green pepper. Quantitative limit of fomesafen was 0.04 mg/kg in representative 5 crop samples. A LC/MS with selected-ion monitoring was also provided to confirm the suspected residue. Therefore, this analytical method was reproducible and sensitive enough to determine the residue of fomesafen in agricultural commodities.
To understand the scales of the spatial distribution and temporal duration of the subsurface chlorophyll-a maximum (SCM) observed in the Ulleung Basin of the East Sea, we analyzed physical and chemical data collected during the East Asian Seas Time-series-I (EAST-I) program. The SCM layer occurred at several observation lines from the Korea Strait to $37.9^{\circ}N$ in the Ulleung Basin during August of 2008 and 2011. At each observation line, the SCM layer extended from the coast to about 200 km off the coast. The SCM layer was observed between 30 and 40 m depth in the Ulleung Basin as well as in the northwestern Japan Basin along $132.3^{\circ}E$ from $38^{\circ}N$ to $42.3^{\circ}N$ during July 2009, and was observed around 50 m depth in the northeastern Japan Basin ($135-140^{\circ}E$ and $40-45^{\circ}N$) during July 2010. From these observed features, we hypothesize that the SCM layer observed in the Ulleung Basin may exist in most of the East Sea and may last for at least half-year (from the early May to late October). The nutrient supply mechanism for prolonged the SCM layer in the East Sea was not known, but it may be closely related to the horizontal advection of the nutrient rich and low oxygen waters observed in the Korea Strait between a 50 m depth to near the bottom. The prolonged development of the SCM layer in the Ulleung Basin may result in high primary production and would also be responsible for the high organic carbon content observed in the surface sediment of the region.

The importance of aquafarming is increasing all over the world, however the coastal environment in the semi-closed inner bay has been aggravated due to the long term production and the high stocking density. For the sustainable aquafarming, there is a requirement for a eco-friendly fishery management by the estimation of ecological carrying capacity. The model development and application is still in the initial step, because it has to consider the whole ecosystem and all culture activities. As an alternative, there is a requirement for ecological indicator to assess the ecological performance. This study tried the estimation of ecological carrying capacity using ecological indicator. The production and the facility of the oyster farms was 4,935M/T, $49ind./m^3$ in Geoje-Hansan Bay(2008). Filtration pressure indicator was 0.203 which could provide a guidance on the present level of culture development. According to the environmental characteristics and the present oyster farms in Geoje-Hansan Bay, the newly assessed filtration pressure for the acceptable ecological carrying capacity was 0.102. Consequently, ecological carrying capacity in Geoje-Hansan Bay was 2,480M/T, $25ind./m^3$ and this represents the level of culture that can be introduced into Geoje-Hansan Bay without leading to significant changes to ecological process, species, populations or communities. Our study utilized the ecological indicator to estimate ecological carrying capacity of oyster farming for sustainable productivity and this could be the scientific basis for the eco-friendly fishery management.
