What Makes Korea-Israel Science Teachers Inservice Program for Fostering Learners' Creativity Effective? (창의성 계발 과학교육을 위한 한국 - 이스라엘 과학교사 연수프로그램의 효율성)

  • The study aimed to assess the effectiveness of Korea-Israel science teachers inservice program. Thirty science teachers who participated in the inservice program responded to pre- and post tests of the survey instrument on (a) their perceptions to creativity fostering science education and understandings of current education status and reform movement, (b) degrees of changes about understanding of creativity and implementing teaching methods for fostering creativity before and after the program, and (c) their evaluative opinions on the program. Suggestions for improving the program were proposed as follows: First, a pre-service workshop for the program should be provided in order to clearly realize the essential purpose of the program through increase of participating teachers' understanding of facing conditions of education, school policy, reform movement toward science education fostering creativity. Second, for the content of the program, creativity is more emphasized. Appropriate content and sufficient time arrangement for creativity will develop teachers' conceptual understanding of creativity in depth. Third, classroom observation of exemplary science teaching for fostering creativity should be sufficiently arranged. Fourth, amount of content and time allotment to Israel culture, religion, and education system should be reduced.

  • In this paper, we have described a survey of applications and results of serious games for science education in elementary and middle school students. We constructed the educational contents and curriculum for learning natural science principles through game contents by analyzing science course of elementary and middle schools. Based on this curriculum, we developed science educational serious games 'Science Heroes' to help teaching-learning difficulty caused by abstract science concepts or spatial-temporal limitation. In our research, we carried out a serious game evaluation test for our game contents by current teachers about applicability to the real education field and supplementary points.

  • 생활이 과학화됨에 따라 생활양식이 향상되고 인간의 사회적접촉이 많아지고 그 접촉방법과 형태가 또한 다양해지고 있다. 그러므로 의생활에서 의복의 형태의 다양성과 기능성의 요구도가 높아져가고 있으며 생산면에서도 시간적인 절약과 경제적면으로 제작의 공업화로 인한 기성복화가 요구되고 있다. 이런점으로 보아 의생활에서 혁신과 경제성으로 생각해야 할 것은 기성화의 문제와 소비문제라고 생각된다.

  • 우리가 지금 겪고 있는 국난은 경제를 잘못 이끌어 왔기 때문이다. 그런데 경제가 잘못된 것은 취약한 과학기술 탓고 있다. 그동안 나름대로 과학기술수준의 향상은 있었지만 도입과 모방위주로 창조적인 자주기술력의 양성이 미흡했다. 실천과 합리성 존중, 철저하나 실증성 등의 기술정신은 오늘의 국난극복을 위해 꼭 필요하다.

  • Creativity is always important in science gifted education. There are many research results about enhancing the creativity. One of the ways of enhancing students scientific' creativity is to let them think and research like scientists so that they can follow how scientists find problems and solve them. So in this study, scientific creative elements were extracted from the Pauling's detailed examples of research process by using many documents. Abductive reasoning, paradox, changing the perspective, modeling, simplifying, converging thinking, diverging thinking, and metaphorical thinking are thinking methods that were extracted from the Pauling's research process. Repeated experiment, co-experiment, using both theories and experiments, and social obligation as a scientist are research methods. Scientific creative elements that were extracted suggest some direction that have more scientific creativity, more ability to find problems, and more ability to form theories in science education or in science gifted education.

Elementary Teachers' Perceptions of Frontier Science Teaching and their Teaching Efficacy (초등교사의 첨단과학기술 교수에 대한 인식 및 교수효능감 조사)

  • This study examined 39 elementary teachers' perceptions on the frontier science teaching and their teaching efficacy. The results showed: elementary teachers were interested in and were well aware of the importance of the frontier science in human life and in this society. They also agreed with the necessity of teaching frontier science in elementary school. They, however, had perceptions that frontier science may not be appropriate for the level of elementary students. Moreover, the poor educational environment may act as constraints for frontier science teaching. The change of elementary teachers' teaching efficacy(t=-13.67, p<.01) was statistically significant after their participation of developing STEAM program on frontier science and practicing its lessons.
