대전엑스포 `93(4)

  • 대전엑스포 개최년도인 1993년을 기념하여 93미터 높이로 세워지는 한빛탑은 과거로부터 출발한 과학기술이 현재를 거쳐 미래로 나아가는 발전의 기상과 의지를 담고 있다. 또한 정부관을 비롯한 25개의 국내 전시관에서는 주제별로 다양한 전시가 펼쳐지며 1백개국 이상의 국제기구가 참가하는 국제관에 서로 개성적인 전시가 선보일 것으로 예상된다. 이와 함께 93일의 개최기간 동안 50여종의 문화예술행사가 1천 3백여회에 걸쳐서 화려하고 다채롭게 펼쳐질 전망이다. 대전엑스포에 대한 참가 열기를 더욱 높이기 위해 이번에는 과학기술전시 및 문화 예술행사의 흐름을 살펴본다.

기자가 만난 과기정책 현장 - 정경택 교과부 국제과학비즈니스벨트기획단장

  • 정경택 교육과학기술부 국제과학비즈니스벨트기획단장은 '해결사'로 불린다. 지난해 교과부 과학기술정책실 정책조정기획관으로 부임해 국가 연구개발 컨트롤타워인 '국가과학기술위원회'를 성공적으로 출범시켰다. 다음 해결 주제는 '말도 많고 탈도 많던' 국제과학비즈니스벨트(과학벨트) 사업이었다. 그는 민간 전문가들로 구성된 '국제과학비즈니스벨트위원회'를 구성해 2년여를 끌어온 과학벨트 입지 선정을 지난 5월 마무리했다. 과학벨트 사업은 여전히 국내외 과학자들의 관심 대상 0순위다. 올 연말 기초과학연구원이 설립되고 내년엔 기초과학연구원 산하 연구단 25개가 선정된다. 과학자들에게 새로운 연구 기회가 생기는 셈이다.

  • 서정욱 과학기술부장관은 지난 5월 24일 조선호텔에서 열린 과학기술포럼(이사장:김시중) 토론회에서 '21세기 과학기술 진흥정책'을 내용으로 주제발표를 했다. 서장관은 이 강연을 통해 "20세기의 과학기술이 엄청난 공헌도 했지만 적지않은 과오도 범했다"고 지적하고 "21세기의 한국의 과학기술은 20세기의 과학기술이 저질러 놓은 모순과 과오를 시정하면서 지구가족, 인류사회의 미래를 위해 큰 기여를 하도록 노력해야 한다"고 강조했다.

Analysis on exhibits for nuclear energy of science museums (원자력을 주제로 하는 과학관 전시물에 대한 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to provide information about exhibits for nuclear energy in science museums. This analysed form and content of exhibits of science museums. The subjects were exhibits of 3 science museums; Seoul science park, Seoul national science museum, Gwachen national science museum. The research results were as follows: First, 3 science museums had similar methods of exhibits and types of explanations because of speciality of theme. 3 science museums had mostly fixed exhibit. Panel was the most types of explanations in 3 science museums. Second, 3 science museums had similar contents of exhibits. They dealt with nuclear power generation and radiation. However, Some parts such as radioactive waste, nuclear fusion generation had different. This study suggests that exhibits for nuclear energy of science museums use a variety of methods and types of explanation. Also, science museums need to increase exhibits for nuclear energy.

국립과천과학관에서 진행되는 천문교육 현황과 계획

  • 현재 국내에는 약 40여 개의 종합(관측실과 투영관이 있는) 천문시설이 운영 중에 있으며 새로운 시설이 꾸준히 추가로 건설 되고 있다. 그리고 교육과학연구원, 도서관 등 많은 시설에서 천문시설을 갖추고 교육에 활용하고 있다. 그런데 대부분의 천문시설에서는 별자리 설명, 천체투영관에서의 영상물 상영, 그리고 천체망원경을 이용한 관측실습 등 한정된 소재와 일관된 형식의 천문교육 프로그램을 운영 하고 있다. 하지만 국립과천과학관에서 방학 중 천문학교실을 운영해본 결과 좀 더 깊이 있는 천문학 교육에 대한 수요가 상당히 많다는 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. 실제 과학교육 현장에서는 여러 분야의 다양한 교육프로그램들이 개발되어 운영되고 있으나 천문학을 주제로 한 교육은 찾아보기 어려운 상황이다. 천문학은 새로운 연구 결과가 가장 활발하게 발표되는 분야들 중 하나로, 일반인이나 언론에서도 상당히 많은 관심을 보여주고 있다. 외계행성 탐사, 초신성 관측, 우주 가속팽창과 같은 최신 천문학 분야의 다양한 주제들을 이용하여 교육프로그램을 개발하면 일반인들에게 천문학의 내용을 알리는데 좋은 기회가 될 수 있을 것이다. 국립과천과학관에서는 방학 프로그램에 이어 조금 더 심화된 교육프로그램을 기획하여 운영할 준비를 하고 있다. 현재 국립과천과학관에서 준비 중인 천문교육프로그램을 소개하고 여러 사람들의 의견을 들어보고자 한다.

Analysis of relationship between exhibitions of public astronomical science museums and science curriculum revision, 2009 (천문과학관의 전시자료와 2009 개정 과학과 교육과정과의 관련성 분석)

  • Since Daejeon observatory has been built as the first astronomical science museum(ASM) whose theme is astronomy and space, many ASMs have been built or are being built by the governmental support. ASMs are requested to perform an important role as the educational venue that can be experienced the scientific activities for supplementing regular science education. This study investigated the analysis of the connection to astronomy-related contents of science curriculum revised in 2009 for exhibits of 17 ASMs. As a result, exhibits of ASMs show the low reflectivity to science curriculum and are very biased to standard of accomplishment. That is, they are not sufficient enough for the students to reach the learning objectives. However the astronomical scientific activities which are hard to be performed in regular school curriculum can be experienced at ASMs. Additionally, since exhibits of ASMs are easy to access and accept, they can provide the effective educational activities and learning effect. Therefore, ASMs have to be improved for supplementing regular science education through the informal curriculum of astronomical scientific activities by the producing and displaying good astronomy-related exhibits.

Developing Exhibit Improving Model of Children's Science Museum and its Implication in Science Education: Based on the Nuri Curriculum (어린이과학관 전시 개선 모형 개발 및 적용에 따른 과학교육에서의 제언: 누리과정을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the exhibition model of children's science museum for children and to present the guideline for the exhibition of children's science museum. To this end, we proposed an exhibition of 'body', 'surrounding things', and 'natural phenomenon' as exhibition topics based on the exhibit evaluation framework and kindergarten curriculum. The direction and color elements are important for the exhibition of 'the body', and the presentation of the 'natural phenomenon' is suitable for the use of contextual media applying color and lighting. And it can be said that it is important to provide clues and fixtures for exploring objects based on the theme of 'surrounding objects'. In addition, in order to secure the validity of the developed exhibition model, we developed an exhibition link program for the 'mirror' exhibition of the exhibition model and applied it to visitors to the Gwangju Museum of Science. Therefore, it is meaningful that it provides the basic guidelines for exhibition planning, and it is necessary to plan exhibition to maximize the exhibition effect by directing exhibition contents, exhibition media and exhibition space suitable for the audience.

Development and Application of NOS Education Program according to Analyzing the Characteristics of Nature of Science(NOS) in Exhibits of Science Museum (국내 과학관 전시물에 반영된 과학의 본성(NOS) 특징 분석에 따른 프로그램 개발 및 이의 적용)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the status of the science museum reflected in the exhibition, and develop and apply Nature of Science(NOS) education programs based on the science museum exhibition. The analyse tool was developed to understand the NOS in the science museum. The researchers recognized the nature of science reflected in four exhibition halls in Korea. Based on the analysis, we developed the NOS education program. NOS education programs were developed and applied to supplement the NOS that appears to be limited to scientific exhibitions based on the prior analysis of science exhibition. The results of the study were as follows. First, we analyzed the nature of science reflected in the exhibition of two main science museums, and it was mostly implicit and most were to understand the relationship among STS(Science-Technology-Society). And also we analyzed the NOS reflected in the exhibition of two national history museum, and it was also mostly implicit and most were about the way of how to find out the knowledge, inference. Second, in order to supplement the NOS of the science museum, we developed the NOS education program based on the exhibits. After applying it to the science museum, we conducted a qualitative study. As a result, there was a positive change only in the aspects of NOS (science is tentative, science is from creativity and imaginative, science is the produce of social and culture, science is from the scientific method) that reflected explicitly. The conclusions derived from this study are as follows : For the cultivation of science in the scientific museum, various factors are needed depending on the theme of the science museum. Also, it is helpful to actively implement the NOS educational programs that utilize the exhibit. Therefore, the exhibit planners' and developers' competencies are critical to develop explicit NOS education programs in its expertise.

A View Geography in 'Sunghosaseol' (성호사설(星湖僿說)에 나타난 지리관 일고찰 -천지문(天地門)을 중심으로-)

  • This paper was written on the purpose of examining and analyzing Sungho's view of geography in 'Cheonjimun(天地門)', a part of 'Sunghosaseol(星湖僿說)'. Sungho is not a geographer who specialized in geography, His view is neither structural in methodological approach nor profound in geographical thought. Unfortunately, he looks to be possessed by geomantic thought(風水地理思想) in explaining geographical features and native customs. And he focused and emphasized only on defensive function in place location. As a whole, however, he had a good grasp of and analyzed about geographical topics which are related to human life and we must take interest in. Therefore, in his view, there is a love for country and hometown. Especially, it has to be highly appreciated that he tried to explain his view in analytical and practical perspective with an unspoken advice which things necessary for human life have to be used to available knowledge.

Examining the Current Status Quo of Children's Science Exhibits and Exploring the Direction of Development in Children's Science Museum Exhibition (국내 어린이 중심 과학전시 현황 파악 및 발전방향 모색)

  • The study aims to suggest the direction of improvement in presenting the exhibition space by examining the current status quo of children's science exhibitions in order to enhance the educational effectiveness Children's Science Museum. For this purpose, the children's science museum exhibition and exhibition space were categorized into three themes largely according to the exhibition contents, and an analysis framework was developed to analyze exhibition media and exhibition space. For the research subjects, we selected 7 exhibition halls targeted at children in Korea, collected data via video-taping, and analyzed based on the framework of analysis. When analyzing the display situation in which the exhibits have the contents of 'body', 'peripheral things', and 'natural phenomena', we found that the exhibits are composed of too difficult contents to understand, which do not fit the children's developmental level, and the major media used are observational and explaining media. Additionally, concerning the exhibition space, there is a tendency to rely on the installation elements and color effect. It is also difficult to deduce the contents of the exhibits and the entire story. We suggest that the entire exhibition planning be carefully made from the beginning to improve the current status and enhance the educational effectiveness of the Children's Science Museum with the help of experts.
