Development of Metal Compound Explosives Using KIO4 and TiH2 (KIO4와 TiH2를 이용한 금속복합화약 개발)

  • THPP is a type of metallic complex explosive used in initiators, consisting of TiH2 and KClO4. In this case KClO4 includes ClO4- which is a harmful substance that may cause thyroid dysfunction or tumors. In this study KIO4 is applied to a new type of environmentally friendly explosive as a substitute to the conventional KClO4. Tests were carried out to see if KIO4 can be made a successful replacement for KClO4.

  • In this study, combustion modeling of ZPP and $BKNO_3$ mainly used in the PMD industries has been performed. Saint Robert's law, energy conservation equation, and the Noble-Abel equation of the state have been used for governing equations. The results of pressure obtained from established combustion models and actual CBT have been compared. In the case of ZPP, the model has predicted a pressure curve similar to that of the experimental results, but $BKNO_3$ has showed that the maximum pressure of the model is greater than the experiment at small chamber volume. For these gaps, the probability of $BKNO_3$ unburning has been considered.

  • This research investigated the manufacturing process and characteristics analysis of ZPP(Zirconium Potassium Perchlorate) as pyrotechnic are commonly found in the aerospace, defense, and automotive industries. A solid pyrotechnic mixture is composed of an oxidizing agent, fuel, and binder. Precipitation process was used to uniformly mix the raw material. Through the analysis of the material characteristics and thermal response is designed optimum ratio by NASA CEA program. It was compared by performing the evaluation of these size, shape and calorimetry characteristics.

Thermal Decomposition Kinetics of ZPP as a Primary Charge of Initiators (착화기용 ZPP의 열분해 특성)

  • The thermal decomposition characteristics of the ZPP(Zirconium/Potassium perchlorate), widely used as a primary charge of initiators, were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC). The DSC results with different heating rates were elaborated with AKTS-Thermokinetics software for the determination of the kinetic parameters of the thermal decomposition of ZPP. There was good agreement between the experimental and the simulation curves, based on the determined kinetic parameters, which indicates the validity of the kinetic description of the thermal decomposition process of ZPP.

Comparison of the Methods to Analyze Freshwater Sediments (담수 퇴적물의 분석법간 비교 분석)

  • In this study, Chemical Oxygen Demand(COD) which is the measure of organic substances, Total nitrogen(T-N), Total phosphorous(T-P), Fe and Mn were analyzed in the sediments of dam reservoir. The purpose of this study were to understand the relevances among the analytical methods adopted and the applicabilities of those methods. For the determination of COD, Standard Method for the Examination of Marine Environment(SMEME) and Standard Method for the Examination of Sanitary(SMES) was used. Both method had wide dynamic range and the deviations of the values obtained by two methods were small because $KMnO_4$ method closely reflected BOD and organic substances. For the determination of T-N and T-P, Standard Method for the Examination of Food(SMEF) and Standard Method for the Examination of Sanitary(SMES) were used. Two methods for T-N were both the acid-base titration but SMES gave less T-N values than SMEF because of the differences in digestion and distillation steps. Two methods for T-P gave the comparable values after acid digestion of $HNO_3$ and $HClO_4$. The determination of heavy metals as a Fe, Mn was mainly divided to the leaching method and acid digestion method. The values obtained by leaching method were less than those by digestion method. It is thought that the condition of acid digestion was more severe than that of leaching method.
