Skin Coloration and Endogenous Hormonal Changes of 'Kyoho' Grape by High Temperature at Veraison (변색기 고온에 의한 포도 '거봉'의 과피 착색 및 내생 호르몬 변화)

  • We analyzed the anthocyanin accumulation, abscisic acid (ABA), gibberellic acid (GA) contents and metabolic genes expression in berry skins under high temperature (High T) at veraison, in order to investigate the cause of bad coloration of 'Kyoho' grape due to High T in summer season. The coloration of 'Kyoho' grapes was stopped by High T for 10 days from veraison, and the fruit quality was not affected except skin color. Total anthocyanin of skins was decreased by High T treatment and malvidin and peonidin were decreased compared to control. In berry skins, ABA content did not decrease by High T treatment, but it was rather higher than that of control. GA content was increased about two times compared to the control after 10 days of High T treatment, which caused decreased ratio of ABA/GA. Analysis of expression of anthocyanin biosynthetic genes showed that the early biosynthetic genes were not affected by High T and the expression of UFGT was decreased by temperature treatment. ABA biosynthetic gene expressions were not affected by High T and the expression of GA20ox1 and GA2ox1/2, which are known to regulate the biosynthesis and inactivation of GA, were increased and decreased by High T, respectively. Therefore, the bad coloration of 'Kyoho' grapes under the High T at veraison was due to inhibition of anthocyanin biosynthesis of skin, and it was suggested that the anthocyanin biosynthesis was controlled by the ratio of ABA and GA rather than ABA content.

Characteristics of New Ever-bearing Strawberry 'Bokha' Bred for Tropical and Subtropical zone Cultivation (열대 및 아열대 지역 재배용 사계성 딸기 '복하' 육성)

  • 'Bokha' is a new strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.) cultivar, which was released by the Highland Agriculture Research Institute in 2016. The 'Bokha' cultivar originated from a cross between 'Goha' and 'Saebong No. 3' that showed excellent ever-bearing characteristics, including continuous flowering habit and high soluble-solids contents under long-day and high temperature conditions in 2011. This cultivar was initially named 'Saebong No. 8' after examining its characteristics and productivity in summer culture from 2013 to 2015. After regional adaptability tests in 2016, 'Bokha' was selected from Saebong No. 8 as an elite cultivar. The general characteristics of 'Bokha' include semispreading type, elliptical leaves, and moderately vigorous growth. The fruits are conical in shape, and red in color. 'Bokha' plants have 32.7 leaves, 9.9 more than 'Goha' plants. The soluble-solids content of 'Bokha' was 9.2%, which was 0.2% higher than that of 'Goha'. The average fruit weight of 'Bokha' was about 9.5g and the marketable yield was $27,701kg{\cdot}ha^{-1}$, 72% higher than 'Goha'. 'Bokha' is suitable for tropical and subtropical zone cultivation as a high soluble solids contents cultivar, because it shows continuous flowering habit under long-day and high temperature conditions.

Changes of Plant Growth and Nutrient Concentrations of the Drainage According to Drainage Reuse and Substrate Type in Sweet Pepper Hydroponics (파프리카 수경재배 시 배액 재사용과 배지 종류에 따른 생육 및 배액 내 이온 농도 변화)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of closed cultivation and open cultivation method and substrate type on the nutrient ion change pattern and growth of sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) 'Scirocco' according to the reuse of drainage in hydroponics. The sowing, transplanting, and application of the closed and open cultivation method were carried out on August 19 and September 16, and October 21, 2021, respectively. As a result of the analysis of nutrients in the drainage, Na+ and Cl- are representative ions that crops do not absorb properly, and as the growth progresses, they are accumulated in the closed method. In addition, since the content of NH4-N in the drainage is significantly lower than that of NO3-N, it is thought that NH4-N is preferentially absorbed rather than NO3-N due to the ion selectivity of sweet pepper. The growth and fruit characteristics of sweet pepper did not differ significantly between treatments according to the drainage reuse and the type of substrate. In conclusion, if you take care of poor fruiting due to the weakening of power after the middle period in hydroponic cultivation of sweet pepper according to the cultivation method of closed and open, and the substrate type of coir and rock wool, the difference between treatments is not large, so the sweet pepper can be produced by selecting the cultivation methods and substrate types suitable for the conditions of grower. However, as interest in environmental pollution has recently increased, it is judged that there is no need to worry about a decrease in quantity or quality, even if a closed cultivation method is adopted under the assumption that pathogen infection due to drainage reuse is well managed. It is expected that if coir is applied instead of rock wool, which causes a problem of disposal, it will further contribute to the reduction of environmental pollution.
