  • This study dealt with the airport network applying the Structural Equivalence which has used in the field of social science network. It analyzed the size of aviation market and trade exchanges. The results between blocks through the Convergence of Iteration Correlation are as follows; Block 1 (major hub airport) and Block 5 (Australian and New Zealand airports) have a strong relationship between other blocks. Block 3 (CIS region) and Block 7 (Malaysia and Indonesia) have been indicated as relatively low degree. The structural equivalence analysis can be grouped as a small number of blocks with large and complex networks and also presented a significant result according to the nature of the relationship between aviation market and the level of trade exchanges.

  • This study analyzed the network of low cost carriers (LCCs) to investigate the structural characteristics of airport networks. 71 LCCs in Asian major airports from January 2010 to January 2016 were queried from the SRS Analyzer Schedule Database of IATA's Airport Intelligence Service, and analyzed international routes excluding domestic flights. We analyzed the network connection mechanism focusing on Incheon International Airport, Hong Kong, Singapore, Narita, Kansai, Pudong, Kaohsiung, Gimpo and Jeju airports as well as structural changes in the LCC network using four centrality analysis concepts. The outcomes showed that the LCC network is formed in these airports and the density of connectivity to other airports increased. In recent years, LCC has launched LCCs-Alliances and would be considered to operate a hub-and-spoke network.

  • The purposes of this paper were: 1) to identify the structural changes of the northeast Asia airport network caused by the pandemic of COVID-19 using social network analysis (SNA) and 2) to suggest proposals for improving airport competitiveness. In this respect, the entire international air routes in northeast Asia airport collected data of 4-10 March 2019 and 9-15 March 2020 through schedules analyzer database of OAG. We found that both the density and centrality have decreased since the spread of COVID-19. The government and airport authorities need active support such as a reduction of various fees and a moratorium on transportation rights to overcome the crisis in the air transport industry. When the COVID-19 situation calms down in the future, we hope that further research will be conducted to identify the structural changes in the SNA aspects through the vast data establishment in countries such as the EU and America.

  • Recently. large number of countires have been focused on the construction of container seaport and hub airport to enrole as the center of logistics. In particular, the East Asian nations have been enhanced their airports' facilities in order to accommodate for demand of global market environment. In Korea, Incheon International Airport (ICN) was opened in 2001 to take leading role as the Northeast Asian main hub airport. The purpose of this research is to analyze the transferring connectivity at ICN. To analyze its connectivity, this research has been applies two methodologies ; wane structure and minimum or maximun connection time analysis It has analyzed the temporal configuration as the frequency and quality of indirect connections offered by an airline by adopting a wave-system structure in the airline flight schedule. As an empirical analysis, it also calculated the minimum and maximum connection time adopting Korean Air's flight information.

  • Ports play a crucial role in the complex global supply chain. While many researchers have used social network analysis (SNA) to study active networks, there is a lack of SNA cohesion analysis specifically related to logistics and trade. Therefore, this study aims to identify time-series structural changes in all domestic import and export logistics networks, including regions, ports, and airports, by utilizing techniques such as k-core and community analysis. To carry out this analysis, we rely on data from the Korea Customs Service's Import and Export Logistics Statistical Yearbook spanning from 2004 to 2022. The findings from the k-core and community analysis indicate that the cohesion of the domestic import and export logistics network has continuously strengthened over time. Moreover, it reveals that regions, ports, and airports are becoming more cohesive and homogeneous, with Busan Port emerging as the central hub of a large community. These insights are expected to enhance our understanding of global logistics dynamics and contribute to the development of policies and sustainable import and export logistics processes.

  • In this study, we explore the characteristics of directors' network structure and investigate the relationship among the network of board directors in the Korean logistics industry. Social network analysis reveals hidden patterns of the interlocking directors' network. We construct a directors' network index using social network analysis of the Korean logistics industry. Empirical results have showed that of the 23 companies analyzed, the network index of Korean Air is the highest. The interlocking network index of Korean Air, Hanjin and Hanjin Logistics Company is 0.4, 0.32 and 0.24 respectively. Korean Air has a strong central interlocking network that can create social power through the logistics industry. Our paper contributes to the broad literature in two ways. First, unlike the existing literature on director structure, this paper concentrates on the relationship among interlocking directors. Second, logistics firms need to be aware of the importance of networks and recognize the occurrence of power.

  • Various research are being published in the areas of humanities, history, aviation/ports, and regional development, centering on the Incheon area which has issues such as large-scale ports and airports, archipelago, and urban regeneration. This study explored the scope of the subject and the distribution of researchers using a informetric analysis focusing on the studies of Incheon. Specifically, this study extracted authors from about 500 Incheon-related research papers listed in the Korean journal's citation index and analyzed the co-author relationship network to understand the cooperative behavior between authors' institutions. In addition, by extracting keywords from the articles and performing a weighted network (PFNET) analysis on the relationship between keywords, the intellectual structure was analyzed. As a result, it was found that Inha University and Incheon National University showed a high TBC, and Incheon Development Institute showed the high NNC. Meanwhile, the intellectual structure of Incheon-related research was found to be composed of 11 thematic clusters, and the social issues of Incheon, ports, and aviation were analyzed as representative clusters.

  • The deregulation of aviation markets in Europe and the United Sates had led airlines to reconfigure their networks into hub-and-spoke systems. Recent trends of "Open Skies" in the Asian aviation market are also expected to prompt the reformation of airlines' networks in the region. A significant connectivity index is a crucial tool for airlines and airport authorities to estimate the degree of hub-and-spoke operations. Therefore, this paper suggests a new index, Continuous Indirect Connectivity Index (CICI), for measuring the coordination of airlines' flight schedules, applying it to the Asian, European and the American aviation markets. CICI consists of three components:(i) temporal connectivity to identify the attractiveness between connection flights, (ii) spatial connectivity to differentiate the attractiveness by de-routing distance with continuous linear function, and (iii) relative intensity to reflect the effect of direct flight frequency on transfer routes. CICI is evaluated to examine a casual relationship through regression analyses with two dependent variables of the number of transfer passengers and transfer rates. Compared with Danesi's index and Doganis' index through evaluation processes, CICI has a higher coefficient value of determination, implying that it explains the relationship between connectivity and transfer passengers more precisely.
