Compact CNN Accelerator Chip Design with Optimized MAC And Pooling Layers (MAC과 Pooling Layer을 최적화시킨 소형 CNN 가속기 칩)

  • This paper proposes a CNN accelerator which is optimized Pooling layer operation incorporated in Multiplication And Accumulation(MAC) to reduce the memory size. For optimizing memory and data path circuit, the quantized 8bit integer weights are used instead of 32bit floating-point weights for pre-training of MNIST data set. To reduce chip area, the proposed CNN model is reduced by a convolutional layer, a 4*4 Max Pooling, and two fully connected layers. And all the operations use specific MAC with approximation adders and multipliers. 94% of internal memory size reduction is achieved by simultaneously performing the convolution and the pooling operation in the proposed architecture. The proposed accelerator chip is designed by using TSMC65nmGP CMOS process. That has about half size of our previous paper, 0.8*0.9 = 0.72mm2. The presented CNN accelerator chip achieves 94% accuracy and 77us inference time per an MNIST image.

  • Originally confucianism is closer to communitarianism than to individualism. The ideal of confucianism is to realize ethical community. Chu Hsi's theory of the Song dynasty reestablishes the ideal of ethical community and dignitaries(士大夫) take the job to realize it as their own vocation. There are many developed 'family clans and kinsfolk societies', 'local covenants and sacred storehouses' and 'private academies' in the Chosun dynasty as in the Song dynasty. These communities are three kinds of axial confucian community, which are both natural ascriptive groups and voluntary contract groups in nature. Communities of Chosun dynasty are to strengthen the solidarity through friendship and mutual help as well as to cultivate good customs in society. Also these traditional communities are managed by democratic procedures, as these are originally voluntary contract groups. On the other hand, traditional neo-confucian self-training theories like that individual personality should be harmony with general order, or one should pursuit his private interest according to fair principles are the process of sublimation private individual into public citizen.

Design of AES Cryptographic Processor with Modular Round Key Generator (모듈화된 라운드 키 생성회로를 갖는 AES 암호 프로세서의 설계)

  • In this paper a design of high performance cryptographic processor which implements AES Rijndael algorithm is described. To eliminate performance degradation due to round-key computation delay of conventional processor, the on-the-fly precomputation of round key based on modified round structure is adopted. And on-the-fly round key generator which supports 128, 192, and 256-bit key has modular structure. The designed processor has iterative structure which uses 1 clock cycle per round and supports three operation modes, such as ECB, CBC, and CTR mode which is a candidate for new AES modes of operation. The cryptographic processor designed in Verilog-HDL and synthesized using 0.251$\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS cell library consists of about 51,000 gates. Simulation results show that the critical path delay is about 7.5ns and it can operate up to 125Mhz clock frequency at 2.5V supply. Its peak performance is about 1.45Gbps encryption or decryption rate under 128-bit key ECB mode.

Removal of 2,4-D by an Fe(II)/persulfate/Electrochemical Oxidation Process (Fe(II)/과황산/전기화학적 산화 공정에 의한 2,4-D의 제거)

  • The removal of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) in aqueous solution by coupled electro-oxidation and Fe(II) activated persulfate oxidation process was investigated. The electrochemical oxidation was performed using carbon sheet electrode and persulfate using Fe(II) ion as an activator. The oxidation efficiency was investigated by varying current density (2 - 10 mA/㎠), electrolyte (Na2SO4) concentration (10 - 100 mM), persulfate concentration (5 - 20 mM), and Fe(II) concentration (10 - 20 mM). The 2,4-D removal efficiency was in the order of Fe(II) activated persulfate-assisted electrochemical oxidation (Fe(II)/PS/ECO, 91%) > persulfate-electrochemical oxidation (PS/ECO, 51%) > electro-oxidation (EO, 36%). The persulfate can be activated by electron transfer in PS/ECO system, however, the addition of Fe(II) as an activator enhanced 2,4-D degradation in the Fe(II)/PS/ECO system. The 2,4-D removal efficiency was not affected by the initial pHs (3 - 9). The presence of anions (Cl- and HCO3-) inhibited the 2,4-D removal in Fe(II)/PS/ECO system due to scavenging of sulfate radical. Scavenger experiment using tert-butyl alcohol (TBA) and methanol (MeOH) confirmed that although both sulfate (SO4•-) and hydroxyl (•OH) radicals existed in Fe(II)/PS/ECO system, hydroxyl radical (SO4•-) was the predominant radical.

Comparison of Mechanical Properties on Helical/Hoop Hybrid Wound HNT Reinforced CFRP Pipe with Water Absorption Behavior (CFRP 파이프의 와인딩 적층 패턴 설계 및 HNT 나노입자 보강에 따른 수 환경에서의 기계적 물성 평가)

  • Currently, fluid transfer steel pipes take a lot of time and expense to maintain all facilities due to new construction and painting or corrosion and aging. Therefore, this study was conducted for designing a CFRP pipe structure with high corrosion resistance and chemical resistance as a substitute for steel pipes. The helical/hoop pattern was cross-laminated to improve durability, and HNT was added to suppress the moisture absorption phenomenon of the epoxy. The HNT/CFRP pipe was manufactured by a filament winding process, and performed a mechanical property test, and a moisture absorption test in distilled water at 70℃. As a result, the highest bending strength was obtained when the hoop pattern was laminated with a thickness equivalent to 0.6% of the pipe. The 0.5 wt% HNT specimen had the highest moisture absorption resistance. Also, the delamination phenomenon at the interlayer interface was delayed, resulting in the lowest strength reduction rate.

  • As a large amount of data generated by sensors or devices at the manufacturing site is transmitted to the server or client, problems arise in network processing time delay and storage resource cost increase. To solve this problem, considering the manufacturing site, where real-time responsiveness and non-disruptive processes are essential, QRC (Quotient Remainder Compression) and BL_beta compression algorithms that enable real-time and lossless compression were applied to actual manufacturing site sensor data for the first time. As a result of the experiment, BL_beta had a higher compression rate than QRC. As a result of experimenting with the same data by slightly adjusting the data size of QRC, the compression rate of the QRC algorithm with the adjusted data size was 35.48% and 20.3% higher than the existing QRC and BL_beta compression algorithms.

Performance Evaluation of a Closed-Loop Pressure Retarded Membrane Distillation for Brackish Water Desalination and Power Generation (기수담수화와 전력 생산을 위한 폐루프형 압력 지연식 막 증류 공정의 성능 평가)

  • In this study, we investigated the applicability and optimal operating strategy of a closed-loop pressure retarded membrane distillation (PRMD) for brackish water desalination. For effective operation with net power generation, high temperature of heat source over 90 ℃ and feed flow rate at 0.6 kg/s are recommended. At 3 g/L of feed concentration, the average permeate flux and net energy density showed 8.04 kg/m2/hr and 2.56 W/m2, respectively. The average permeate flux and net energy density were almost constant in the range of feed concentration from 1 to 3 g/L. Compared to the case with seawater feed, the PRMD with brackish water feed showed higher average permeate flux and net energy density. Thus, PRMD application using brackish water feed can be more effective than that using seawater feed in terms of power generation.

  • A phase-locked loop (PLL)-based frequency synthesizer is proposed for a system on a chip (SoC) using multi-frequency clock signals. The proposed PLL-based frequency synthesizer consists of a charge pump PLL which is implemented by a phase frequency detector (PFD), a charge pump (CP), a loop filter, a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO), and a frequency divider, and an edge combiner. The PLL outputs a 12-phase clock by a VCO using six differential delay cells. The edge combiner synthesizes the frequency of the output clock through edge combining and frequency division of the 12-phase output clock of the PLL. The proposed PLL-based frequency synthesizer is designed using a 55-nm CMOS process with a 1.2-V supply voltage. It outputs three clocks with frequencies of 166 MHz, 83 MHz and 124.5MHz for a reference clock with a frequency of 20.75 MHz.

Design of In-Memory Computing Adder Using Low-Power 8+T SRAM (저 전력 8+T SRAM을 이용한 인 메모리 컴퓨팅 가산기 설계)

  • SRAM-based in-memory computing is one of the technologies to solve the bottleneck of von Neumann architecture. In order to achieve SRAM-based in-memory computing, it is essential to design efficient SRAM bit-cell. In this paper, we propose a low-power differential sensing 8+T SRAM bit-cell which reduces power consumption and improves circuit performance. The proposed 8+T SRAM bit-cell is applied to ripple carry adder which performs SRAM read and bitwise operations simultaneously and executes each logic operation in parallel. Compared to the previous work, the designed 8+T SRAM-based ripple carry adder is reduced power consumption by 11.53%, but increased propagation delay time by 6.36%. Also, this adder is reduced power-delay-product (PDP) by 5.90% and increased energy-delay- product (EDP) by 0.08%. The proposed circuit was designed using TSMC 65nm CMOS process, and its feasibility was verified through SPECTRE simulation.

Case Study of the Characteristic of Ground Deformation and the Strut Axial Force Change in Long Span Deep Excavation (장지간 깊은 굴착에서 지반변형 및 버팀보 축력변화 특성 사례 연구)

  • It is generally known that the mechanism of behavior in the flexible earth retaining system is relatively more complicated than in the rigid earth retaining system. Moreover in the case of long span strut supporting system the analysis of strut axial force change becomes more difficult when the differences of ground condition and excavation work progress on both sides of excavation section are added. When deeper excavation than the specification or installation delay of supporting system or change of ground condition happen during construction process, lots of axial force can be induced in some struts, which threaten the safety of construction. This paper introduces two examples of long span deep excavation where struts and rock bolts were used as a supporting system with flexible wall structure. The characteristics of ground deformation and strut axial force change, which were measured in the sections of two examples that are 50 meters apart in one construction site and have almost similar design and construction conditions were analysed, the similarity and difference between measurement results of two examples were compared and investigated. This article aims to improve and develop the technique of design and construction in future projects having similar ground condition and supporting method.
