  • Most of global citizens in the globalization era want to live peacefully in the symbiotic relationship among each region or locality with its identity. From this perspective, the new regionalist models of development such as new industrial districts, industrial clusters, regional innovation systems, and global city-regions isn't helpful to most of regions because they were developed to increase the global competitiveness of industrial region from a few advanced industrial areas. This study attempts to develop 'regional differential development' as an alternative regional development theory. This theory puts emphasis on the truth that the difference or differential industry between regions in the real world connotes two essential values of development like the symbiosis of global citizens and the regional identity. Regional differential development seeks the development of regional differential industry on the basis of geographical elements with differential advantage, and hence it reviews significantly geographical elements including location, natural environment(landform, soil, climate, etc.), natural resources, population, transportation, culture, and landscape which appear substantially differently among regions. And to realize regional differential development successfully, it is crucial that actors(government, company, related institutions, and regional residents) actively participate and play each complementary role in the relationship of cooperation and conflict. Further study needs to secure the universal validity of this theory through many empirical studies.

  • This paper describes the development of an inquiry-based fieldwork program based on Yangdong village where students explore the ways that it can develop in a sustainable way. Important considerations in an inquiry-based fieldwork design include what the key inquiry questions should be, the geographical issues of fieldwork location, the potential roles of mobile technologies, design of learning activities and a final product, and the roles of a teacher. Student fieldwork activities, including mapping land-use changes at the building level, detecting what should be changed or remain the same, and conducting interview with residents to examine their perceptions of overall tourism impacts, are supported by mobile technologies (i.e., the Collector for ArcGIS and the Google Forms). Twenty one high school students participated in a field test of the program in February 2016, which allowed authors to evaluate the program. Students' pre-, in-, and post-fieldwork activities were observed and the data and final products which they gathered and producted were analyzed. The post-program survey indicated that the students deepened and expanded their understanding of Yangdong village and expressed their satisfaction with the program in general. Incorporating mobile technologies into inquiry-based geographical fieldwork can help students involved in collaborative problem solving and creative activities in real world settings and create a shareable multimodal product combining maps, photo, and text.

  • A historical and cultural map needs an overall reflection of the links based on time and space among the various composite factors, instead of requiring a simple collection of the respective relics in a particular region. The study of history, culture and living environment of river system area, a place that is known to as a cradle of civilization, will be able to undertake a role in the research and comparison with other cultural regions, reaching beyond the regional units until now and moreover investigation the international and intercontinental history of civilization. In this context, this research focuses on the establishment of a cultural information system for the public use and the insight to the regional identity and materialization of culture based on Korea's peculiar history and culture. Thus, the information system for Youngsan River area aims to create a form of electronic map that contains various cultural and historical information on river system area, which is a integrated information system based on Web GIS that is open to public use through the internet. The above mentioned system is a combined product from the basic research data on various fields of study, including archaeology, architecture, arts, ecological environment, history, folk customs, literature, and food, while it aims for not only its utilization in interdisciplinary studies but also creating new value as a public database. As a result, the expected effects due to the establishment of historical and cultural information system based on Web GIS of Youngsan River area are as follows: First, the study can contribute to verify a road map of the study on Youngsan River area. Second, it will take a role to stimulate the academical research on the dynamic structure and characteristics of the Youngsan River area. Third, we can also expect an effect of gaining a full foothold in providing an electronic academic source specialized for the study of the historical and cultural map.

  • The focus of our work is to identify and understand the drivers of alliance performance so that businesses can maximize their chances of a successful alliance-an area that has received little attention in empirical modeling. Although both conceptual and applied research on alliances has increased, an empirically tested comprehensive theoretical model that explains alliance performance has yet to be developed. Using five salient perspective, namely market power theory, transaction cost theory, the resource-based view, institutional theory, real option theory, this paper attempts to provide a theoretical rationale linking motives of global alliance networks on firm's capabilities, partner's capabilities, operating structures, and performances of Korean companies. The key contribution of this study is that it paints a picture of what matters in driving alliance performance. Our work shows the complex nature of driving performance and the interplay of firm's capabilities, partner's capabilities, and operating structures for understanding alliance performances. This study has given us a small but significant step forward towards understanding the intricacies of alliance performance. We are now better able to understand the respective roles played by various alliance factors and derive insights that lead to improved alliance performance.

  • The corporate make an effort to improve organizational committment and the degree of employees' satisfaction(internal customer satisfaction). And If it's possible, it enhance competitive advantage of organization for external customer satisfaction. But in fact, the external customer satisfaction and competitive power is made by the complex function between leader support and organizational support in organization. Those hypotheses has been supported by the study of many scholars. Nevertheless the reliability in the results is not to be enough for certain conclusion. Therefore this study investigated the influence of organizational support and leader support(as a independent variable) on commitment(as a mediating variable) and citizenship(as a dependent variable). The result indicated that employees who perceive a high degree of organization and leader support show a high committment to organization in affection and positive OCB. Also the result showed that high committment to organization in affection enhance the relation between organizational support, leader's support and OCB(organization citizenship behavior) Implications for managers in organizations are suggested.

  • Orb-web spiders can be considered as an effective bio-indicative animal to monitor the ecological air pollution of certain habitat since they have limited shifting ability during their life spans. In this study we revealed the fine structural characteristics of booklung in the orb-web spider Nephila clavata, and its bio-indicative significance in the monitoring environmental asbestos exposure. The high resolution scanning electron microscopy results suggest that the cuticular spikes near the atrium could be act as an effective filtering structure for dust materials. Furthermore, inner cuticular spikes which protruded across the air sacs, have the functions not only sustaining appropriate respiratory volume of each air sac but also help to enhance respiratory capacity by maximizing the gross surface area for gas exchange. Interestingly, in spite of short exposure, the asbestose fibrils were effectively captured on the surface of the atrial cuticular spikes. Furthermore, histologic damages were observed due to penetration of asbestos fibrils through air sacs and fixed on the hemolymph space. In addition, although accumulated mass of hemocytes were observed near the fibrils, there were no asbestos bodies or coagulated hemocytes were found on the surface of the fibrils, This could be mainly due to the short exposure period towards asbestos. Briefly, these results indicate the spider's booklung could be valuable tool in the detection ecological air pollutants.

  • In recent years, IT advancement has brought out the new Internet communication environment such as online social network services, where people are connected in global network without temporal and spatial limitation. The popular use of online social network helps people share their experience and preference for specific products and services, thus holding large potential to significantly affect firms' business performance through Word-of-Mouth (WOM). This study examines the role of online social network in raising WOM effect on the movie industry by comparing with the similar role of Internet portal, another major online communication channel. Analyzing 109 movies and data from both Twitter and Naver movie, we found that significant WOM effect exists simultaneously in both Twitter and Naver movie. However, we also found that different figures of online viral effects exist depending on the popularity of movies. In the hit movie group, before the movie release, the WOM effect occurs only in Twitter while the WOM effect arises in both Twitter and Naver movie at the same time after the movie release. In the less-popular (or niche) movie group, the WOM effect occurs in both Twitter and Naver movie only before the movie release. Our findings not only deepen theoretical insights into different roles of the two online communication channels in provoking the WOM effect on entertainment products but also provide practitioners with incentive to utilize SNS as strategic marketing platform to enhance their brand reputations.
