Flow Rate Prediction of Pneumatic Pipe System Using Concept of Conductance (컨덕턴스의 개념을 사용한 공압관 시스템의 유량 예측)

  • Conductance is a concept contrary to flow resistance and is extensively used as a flow index on how easily fluid is transported through a pneumatic pipe or fluid device. However, research on flow conductance is very rare to date, and a systematic investigation is needed for the standardization of pneumatic devices. In the present study, a computational fluid dynamics method was applied to solve the compressible Navier-Stokes equations with two-equation turbulence models. The present CFD results were validated with existing experimental data. The conductance values and friction factors at the inlet and outlet of a pneumatic pipe were used to assess the flow rates. The present results showed that the conductance depends on the pressure ratio at the inlet and outlet of a pipe.

  • Valves, which are used to supply or block the flow of cryogenic pressurant in the pressurization system of liquid-propellant propulsion system in a launch vehicle, are pneumo-actuated valve, solenoid valve, pyro-valve, etc. Both pneumo-actuated valve and solenoid valve have more complex structure and are heavier than pyro-valve. For this study, a couple of pyro-valves, which are applicable to cryogenic and high-pressure fluid (cryogenic gaseous helium), have a simple structure, and are comparably light, are designed, manufactured, and tested (proof-pressure/leakage tests, performance test, vibration test, helium supply tests).

  • Recently oriental-medicine has become a new issue in world medicine field because of increased demands of old man's disease care. This paper proposes portable oriental-medicine multi electrically copping system. The system may be used by patients themselves without any help from others. Patient can use number of suction cups at the same time, solved itching and hardened muscles by keeping air pressure of suction cups for a long time through freely adjusting timer and vacuum pressure.

Micro-particles in a Nanoliter Droplet Dispensed by a Pneumatic Dispensing System and Its Measurement (공압 디스펜싱 시스템을 이용한 나노리터 액적에 포함된 미세 입자의 분주 및 측정)

  • This paper presents results for dispensing and measuring micro-particles using a pneumatic dispensing system. Particle-suspended liquid droplets were dispensed and analyzed quantitatively at various particle concentrations and applied pressures. By using a developed experimental setup, the number of particles and the particle volume ratio in sequentially dispensed droplets were measured. Hydrophilic and hydrophobic surfaces were tested to find a suitable surface for counting the number of particle. It was confirmed that the dispensed particles concentrated into the center of the droplet on the smooth CD surface after evaporation of liquid. As the applied positive pressure increased, the number of particles per droplet increased consistently and the volume fraction of particles remained constant.

  • 한의학에서 손목의 맥파를 손으로 짚어 보고 파형의 변화로써 병변의 원인을 파악하는 것은 기본적인 진단 방법이다. 진단을 위해 요골동맥의 촌, 관, 척 세 부위의 맥파를 수지를 통해 일정 가압을 하며 맥의 깊이, 강약, 빠르기 등을 촉진을 통해 맥상을 분석한다. 본 연구에서는 촌, 관, 척 부위를 동시 측정하기 위해 각 부위에 5개의 압력센서 어레이가 적용된 15채널 맥진기를 구성하였다. 또한 요골 동맥 부위에 적정 가압을 유지하기 위해 공기 커프를 이용한 공압 가압 방식을 적용하였다. 본 가압 방식을 통해 요골 동맥 부위에 연속적이며 정밀 가압제어가 가능하였다.

  • This paper presents dynamic characteristics of pneumatic artificial muscles. Since the actuating performance of a pneumatic muscle is closely related to the input pressure of a pneumatic muscle, the air flow model on a valve orifice and an elastic bladder of the muscle is formulated to estimate precisely the pressure variance of pneumatic muscles during deflating and inflating process. Frequency response experiments are performed with an antagonistic system consisting of two pneumatic muscles and fast pneumatic control valves. Comparing with experimental results, the proposed model yielded good performance in estimating dynamic motions of the antagonistic system as well as the pressure variance of the pneumatic artificial muscles

  • In industry pneumatic control system has become a important means to obtain automation because of its simplicity, fast speed and low cost. However Due to of the compressibility of air and damping friction between moving parts, it is difficult to achieve high speed driving, accurate positioning and stopping without overshoot in one pneumatic control system. This paper describes the dynamic behaviors of pneumatic linear actuator. The results will be very useful in the prediction of actuated dynamics and for the manufacturers to improve the techniques in their redesign and get better performance. Also, the experimental data is very important for the dynamic simulation and theoretical analysis.

  • In this paper, a ncw control 'ialvc which can misc air-iraksge pneumatically and compensate pressure drop for an alrho~ st system uas proposed A new control valve called "Pneuniatic C70ntro1 Valve (PCV)" functions as a control valve to compcns;ltc prcssure in thc casc of air-leakage. by using the pure pneummatic control ofpilot pressure. Based on the sirnulation of the proposed PCY, thc experimental system was fabricaied su as to illustrate the efficient pcrformance of the proposed PCV with anti-leakage. Such good perfo~manccs of PCV in the air-hoist system are shown by the simulation. In addition, the simulation bascd design approach presented in this paper can be applied to any hydraulic or pneumatic-hydraulic system.

  • Generally, a fixed type guide-bush system is installed during machining miniature work-pieces with high precision in the multi-task CNC lathe. But a conventional guide-bush system does not provide a constant clamping force under the condition of varying work-piece diameters. It is important to maintain a constant clamping force for guaranteeing machining precision. This paper proposes a new guide-bush system with a pneumatic clamping device for the CNC Swiss-turn lathe to keep constant clamping force with changes in work-piece diameters. Through performance tests, new clamping system developed in the study showed better machining precision at the cost of a small increase in the temperature of the system than conventional systems due to an increase in the frictional heat and a change in the heat transfer route.

  • The goal of this paper is to improve the position control performance of pneumatic rotary actuator with variable brake using Magneto-Rheological Fluid. The air compressibility and the lack of damping of the pneumatic actuator bring the dynamic delay of the pressure response and cause the oscillatory motion. In this study, a variable rotary brake comprising Magneto-Rheological Fluid is equipped to the joint of a pneumatic manipulator. Experiments of step response have proved that the transient response of the manipulator could be improved compared with that of the conventional control algorithm by using a phase plane switching control algorithm.
