도서관탐방 - 부천시 작은도서관을 다녀와서

  • '도서관및독서진흥법'은 '문고'를 도서관의 일반적인 목적과 기능을 수행하고는 있으나 도서관의 기준에 미달되는 규모의 독서시설이라고 정의하고 있다. 1960년 경주시 변두리 농촌인 탑동에 제1호 문고가 생긴 이래 40년이 넘는 현재(2003. 12. 기준) 전국적으로 2,500여개의 문고가 설치되어 있는데, 이들은 공공도서관에 접근하기 어려운 지역주민들이 손쉽게 접근할 수 있는 생활 속의 작은 독서공간으로 자리를 잡아가고 있다. 이번 호에서는 최근 문고 운영의 좋은 사례로 꼽히며 활발한 활동을 펼치고 있는 부천 지역의 공립문고들 중 2곳을 찾아가 보았다.

국.공립도서관 비교평가연구 -전국 46개 4년제 대학도서관을 중심으로-

  • The purpose of this study is put emphasis on the importance of the library statistics. e. g., more than ten related current library statistics were inaccurated each other, so whole of statistic figures is not to be trusted. This research is make an attempt to more accurate information about library situations. Especially, with special reference to basic library statistics in the [Bulletin of National & College University libraries](Vol. 1-14, 1983-96, published by Council on National College & University Libraries), take the 24 major factors to compare and evaluate with 46 national and public university libraries. Analyzing 24 factors including 5 subjects. These subjects are as follows: 1) Total numbers of staffs with faculty members and students enrollment 2) Whole library collection of monographs and serial and publishcations. 3) Annual university budgets and library material expenditures. 4) Library facilities and building square measure. 5) Library service situation with circulation, inter-library loan/borrow and monograph D/B build up.

A Study on Efficiency of Branch Systems of Public Libraries in Korea (우리나라 공공도서관 분관 운영체제의 효율성에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to investigate the current states of branch systems of public libraries in Korea and to find implications to improve such systems. Nationwide surveys to directors and branch directors of public libraries were conducted along with case studies on major local areas. It was revealed that the duties for each branch were rationally assigned in functional perspectives. The result also revealed that the branch systems of provincial office of education were planned in an inappropriate manner without considering their functional attributes. Other findings included (1) public library branches were necessary to be located in local governments based on the hierarchal structure of the following: a central library, a main local branch. a mobile library unit. public mini-library and deposit station ; (2) Saemaul mobile library and private mini-library service were the most effective when they were provided in conjunction with public library branches.

  • 뉴욕공공도서관(The New York Public Library)은 전문분야로 특화된 대학원 수준의 4개의 연구도서관과 85개의 지역분관을 가리키는 복합관의 총칭이다. 뉴욕시는 인구 800만의 5개의 행정구역으로 이루어지는데, 뉴욕공공도서관은 맨해튼, 브롱크스, 스태튼섬의 3개지구 330만명을 서비스 대상으로 하고, 나머지 2개 지구를 브루클린공공도서관, 퀸즈공공도서관이 관할한다. 연간 예산은 2억8천만달러에 달하며, 2003년의 통계에 따르면 방문이용자가 150만명, 홈페이지 이용자도 1,000만명에 이른다고 한다. 놀라운 것은 운영이나 규모면에서 세계 제일로 손꼽히면서도 공립(公立)이 아니라 비영리민간단체(NPO)가 운영하는 공공(公共) 도서관이라는 것이다. 뉴욕공공도서관은 설립부터 독지가들이 기부 등을 통해 도서관 활동에 깊이 관여하면서 행정과의 독특한 협력관계를 발전시켜왔다. 이러한 전통에 의거한 퍼블릭 프라이빗 파트너십(Public Private Partnership)은 뉴욕공공도서관의 핵심으로 보다 풍부한 서비스의 제공을 가능하게 하였다. 이에 본 연구는 우리나라와 달리 예산확보를 위한 경비가 일정부분 상정되고 있는 뉴욕공공도서관의 자금조달 비즈니스 모델에 대한분석에 중점을 두었다.

A Study on the History and General Situation of Public Libraries in Taiwan (대만 공공도서관의 역사와 현황에 관한 연구)

  • This study is to review the history and general condition of Taiwanese public libraries. The first Taiwanese public library was established in 1901 by Japanese resident and the Japanese government. After Independence and moving the seat of government to Taiwan, public libraries was depressed. But since 1979 public libraries have been increased quantitatively because of the construction of culture center and qualitatively because of growth of publications in 1987. Then Taiwan public libraries was developed very rapidly. There are several advantage, including government library's leadership, professional chief librarian, tradition of field research by librarian, inter-library cooperation system, green library building, and so on.

  • This study suggests basic principals and requirements for future development of children's library classification scheme Until now there is no standardized children's library classification system, thereby librarians as well as library users have to go through many troubles. Therefore this study researched current conditions of children's libraries In Korea and analyzed the types and characteristics of children's books. This study reviewed children's book classification systems and how these systems are being used in three different library system: public and Inpyo Children's Library, Miracle Library, and private children's libraries. This study conducted in-depth research on two notable children's book classification systems of Neutinamu Children's Library and Parangsae Children's Library. This study suggests basic principals and requirements for children's library classification scheme, based on researches described above.

A Study on Management and Improvement of P University Libraries with Viewpoint of Five Laws of Library Science: Focused on the first law and the fifth law (도서관학 5법칙으로 본 P대학도서관 운영과 개선방안)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the current status of university library operation through the five laws of library science and suggest ways to improve it. To this end, the operation status of four national and public university libraries was analyzed with the scope of the study as the Busan area. Furthermore, for an in-depth investigation, the P University library in Busan was examined as a case. The operation status of national and public university libraries in the Busan region was analyzed by dividing them into the categories of university library collection materials, facilities, staff, material purchase costs, and users from 2018 to 2022. In particular, there was a decrease in users and a shortage of librarians due to COVID-19. In the case study, the operation status of P University library was investigated focusing on the first and fifth laws of Ranganathan's five laws of library science. In the first law, the study was conducted on the aspects of access to and use of the collection, library location, usage time and book lending, and staff. In the fifth law, the investigation was divided into service improvement aspects according to changes in digital technology of P University library and library environment improvement aspects according to changes in user characteristics. As a result of the study, 'establishment of library space composition strategy', 'establishment of blue ocean strategy', and 'expansion of recruitment and deployment of librarians' were suggested as improvement plans.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose supporting small libraries through investigating the ordinances of local governments. Based upon identifying of ordinances, there are direct and indirect supports for small libraries from local governments. Direct support is provide budget to small libraries and indirect supports are a cooperation between public library and small library, instruction for library staff, and supporting volunteers. Supporting methods for public small library are direct and indirect supports, but method for private library is indirect support.

  • This study considers that the establishment of a public library within multi-use complex is one of the most effective ways to expand infrastructure of public libraries in Korea. A survey on the complexation rates of public libraries in Seoul was made through on-the-spot visits and telephone interviews. It turned out that out of all 112 public libraries in Seoul, 55 of them are in multi complex buildings. In order to efficiently establish public libraries to multi-use complex, absolute consideration on the size, location, and space should be made. Moreover, if necessary, additional complexation with commercial facilities, schools, and local government buildings should be made.

  • This study attempts to suggest effective strategies for small library services in Busan metro area. There has been a steady increase of small libraries that provide user friendly services for local residents. Local governments that is interested in such roles as community spaces based on the familiarity and flexibility of small libraries keep building and operating small libraries in Korea. This study, in this regard, surveyed the small libraries established and operated by a specific local government and analyzed the significance and problems in managing small libraries. In this study, we obtained data from observations, dialogues with managers and users through actual visit surveys to find out the limitations and difficulties of local small libraries.
