The study aims at discussing issues concerning the establishment of the cooperative repository libraries based on regional central libraries which not only support various types of regional libraries and conduct cooperative businesses with them, but also are responsible for collecting and preserving library materials. The study analyzes concepts and types of cooperative repository libraries by literature review and explores cooperative repository libraries in the United States. Futhermore, it conducts a survey and finds that the regional central libraries do not perform their preservation functions, due to the lack of their manpower and budget. As a result, the study provides an establishment plan for cooperative repository libraries which participant libraries hold ownership of transferred materials and regional central libraries own the right of management. Also, it suggests to expand cooperative repository libraries' service coverage from participants to regional communities.

The goal of this study is to suggest the models for establishing and operating the collaborative repository for academic libraries by region in Korea. For this purpose, author analyzed the status of academic libraries by provinces and types, the collection space shortage of academic libraries, location and evaluation criteria of collaborative repository. And based on these analysis results, author proposed the basic principles, key functions and practices to accomplish, architectural scales of the collaborative repositories, transfer criteria and ownership model of library collection, desirable management and operation unit of the collaborative repository.

Therefore, the government and all of metropolitan must establish the collaborative repositories as soon as possible.

According to the Korean Library Act, a regional representative library is fully responsible for the integrated management of all collections held by local libraries. It intends to resolve space problem for collections and to prepare room for new materials in local libraries. Under the Act, a regional representative library should make a plan for a regional repository library to accomodate overflows from local library collections as soon as possible. The purpose of this study is to figure out the meanings of 'regional repository library' as a cooperative storage facility of local library collections, and to suggest the proper solutions for developing a regional repository library with case of Busan metropolitan city. To the end, this study (1) examined the extent of space shortage in local libraries of Busan, (2) assessed the needs of both local libraries and library users for a regional repository library, and finally, (3) suggested the detailed procedure and methods for establishing and managing a regional repository library in Busan metropolitan city.

Recently, there are some discussions about cooperative library storage facilities as methods to relieve the pressure from shortage of library stacks in Korea. This study tried to inspect the preservation environments of 16 cooperative storage facilities in USA, Australia, France, Spain and Korea to help to prepare and establish cooperative storage facilities with ideal preservation conditions. To do this, some aspects of the preservation environments including basic conditions shelving system, HVAC(heating, ventilating and air conditioning) system, fire extinguishing system, security system and other preservation environments were compared and analyzed.

The goal of this study is to analyze the feasibility of establishment of the collaborative repository for public libraries in Korea. To that end, its feasibilities were analyzed from the sides of the relevant laws, national policy, library's recognition, and actual collection space. As a result, the feasibility of establishment of the collaborative repository was revealed by enough. Accordingly, based on the this basic research, there is a need to develop immediately the construction and operation model of the collaborative repository. And the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and metropolitan city and province must grant priority of cultural policy in the establishment of the collaborative repository.

The purpose of this study is to suggest the characteristics of a cooperative storage facility for academic libraries in Korea. For this facility, discussed are how to select a site, build physical facilities, recruit participating organizations, prepare for selection criteria and ownership of resources, confirm service policies, and implement a integrated library management and access system. It is emphasized that a cooperative storage facility for academic libraries in Korea should ensure the optimum use of space on campus, preserve "the last copy" which is not frequently used, but still has scholarly values, and extend the effective and efficient resource sharing among participating libraries.

The purpose of this research is to provide suggestions to develop a cooperative preservation and utilization program suitable for domestic circumstances. To accomplish the purpose of this research, an in-depth study was conducted parallel to surveys and focus group interviews. The study found that a high number of KESLI members recognizes the necessity of the cooperative preservation and utilization of print journals. The study also provides suggestions for the successful development and operation of the cooperative preservation center for print journals-the development of councils, the ownership of journals, the scope of journals to be collected, and the form of the national preservation center. The results of the study will be utilized as the model for the cooperative preservation and utilization of print journals suitable for Korean circumstances.

The purpose of this study is to describe and analyze the characteristics of seven major cooperative storage facilities for academic libraries in the U.S.A, Australia, and Scotland in order to provide a frame of reference for such a facility in Korea. Analyzed are unique characteristics of these storage facilities in relation to their physical facilities, uses and services for collections, participating organizations, ownership of resources, and integrated library management and access systems. Some objectives of operations and physical environments are shared by these storage facilities, and have some implications for the development of cooperative storage facilities in Korea.

The purpose of this study is to explore the establishment and administrative strategies for shared repositories for academic libraries in Korea, using the US ReCAP (Research Collections and Preservation Consortium) Project as a case study. The US ReCAP Project was a collaboration between the New York Public Library and the university libraries of Columbia University, Harvard University, and Princeton University. In-depth interviews were conducted with librarians and administrators in charge of the ReCAP Project to understand the original vision of the project, as well as how the strategy and approach evolved over the years. The analysis results revealed that shared repositories for libraries have evolved into shared collections enabling shared use. But shared repositories require a central management system to be successful in the long-term. Additionally, findings showed that the shared repository filled more quickly than anticipated. This in turn required collaborative planning on shared collection development and selection policies to determine which materials to send to the shared repository.
