Analysis of $CO_2$ and Harmful Gases Caused by Using Burn-type $CO_2$ Generators in Greenhouses (연소식 $CO_2$ 발생기 사용시 온실 내 $CO_2$ 및 유해가스 농도 분석)

  • Bum-type $CO_2$ generators are widely used in greenhouses for the purpose of $CO_2$ supply for photosynthesis and greenhouse heating. However harmful gases included in the air might give severe effects on the plant growth. For investigating the possible emission of harmful gases from commercial bum-type $CO_2$ generators, we carried out the analysis of the harmful by-products (NO, NOx, $NO_2$, CO, and VOCs) and $CO_2$ caused by using a bum-type $CO_2$ generator in greenhouses. And the harmful by-products from different type of fuels such as kerosene, LPG, and LNG were quantified. In order to minimize the uncertainties from a $CO_2$ generator, 4 different $CO_2$ generators were utilized in four plastic greenhouses and a glasshouse located at different places during the experimental works. The results showed that the concentration of NOx is proportional to $CO_2$ concentration. Levels of harmful gases in the most of greenhouses, where the new bum-type $CO_2$ generators were installed, were lower than 1.0 ppm when $CO_2$ concentration was set at 1,000 ppm. In case of LNG combustion, the concentration of CO reached out up to 300 ppm and pre-treatment for CO reduction, such as the adsorption process, would be inevitable to abate the adverse effects on plant growth.

  • 드라이브 샤프트는 일반적으로 엔진에서 발생된 회전력을 바퀴에 직접 전달하는 동시에 조향기능을 수행하는 자동차 부품이다. 최근에 경량화를 통한 에너지 절감을 위하여 기존 스틸소재를 알루미늄으로 대체하는 방안에 대한 연구가 집중되고 있다. 그러나 알루미늄 단일소재로 드라이브 샤프트를 제조하는 것은 비경제적이며 또한 기 개발된 자동차 부품들과의 연결을 고려하여 알루미늄 튜브와 스틸 요크의 이종금속 접합기술이 요구된다. 전자기 펄스용접은 전자기력을 이용하여 용접대상물을 고속으로 충돌시켜 용접하는 기술로서 열 발생이 적어 재료의 특성차로 인한 결함 및 변형이 발생하지 않아, 이종금속간 고품질 용접이 가능하며, 전자기 펄스 용접부의 품질과 밀접한 관계를 갖는 공정변수 경우 모재와 접합재의 재질 따라 적정 공정변수 범위가 변화되므로 공정에 따른 데이터의 축적은 대단히 중요하다. 전자기 펄스 용접을 이용한 이종금속 접합시 접합부 품질에 영향을 미치는 공정변수는 충전전압, 모재와 접합재 사이의 간격 및 접합재의 직경과 두께의 비(D/T비)로서 보고되었으며, Al/Steel 이종 금속 접합시 이들 공정변수가 접합부에 미치는 영향 및 최적의 공정변수 도출을 위한 연구는 시도되지 않았다. 따라서 본 연구는 전자기 펄스 용접기술을 이용한 Al/Steel 이종금속 접합 실험을 통하여 전자기 펄스용접의 적정성과 최적의 충전전압, 모재와 접합재 사이의 간격, D/T비를 도출하고자 한다. 전자기 펄스 용접 장치는 한국생산기술연구원과 웰메이트(주)에서 공동으로 개발한 $120{\mu}F$의 캐패시터 6개로 구성된 'W-MPW36'을 사용하였으며 이 장치의 최대충전전압과 최대접합용량은 각각 10kV, 36kJ이다. 접합재는 전기 전도율의 높은 Al 1070 파이프를 사용하였으며 모재는 기존 스틸 요크재인 SM45C 환봉을 사용하였다. 기보고된 연구를 통하여 코일과 접합재 사이의 간격이 좁을수록 높은 전자기력이 접합재에 작용하는 것을 확인하였으나 코일내 접합재와 모재 삽입 편의를 위하여 1mm로 설정하였다. 접합부의 품질 평가를 위하여 수압시험을 실시하였으며, 시험 후 접합부 단면을 주사전자현미경(SEM)을 이용하여 관찰하였다.

  • Electric propulsion has become a cost effective and sound engineering solution for many space applications. The success of SMART-1 and MUSES-C developed by European Space Agency (ESA) and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) each proved that even small spacecraft could accomplish planetary mission with electric propulsion systems. A small electric propulsion system which is Hall effect thruster like SMART-1 is under development by SaTReC and GDPL (Glow Discharge Plasma Lab.) in KAIST for the next microsatellite, STSAT-3. To achieve optimized propulsion system, it is very necessary to understand plasma motions of Hall effect thruster. In this paper, we try to approach comprehensive plasma model with the particle simulation complementary to Particle In Cell (PIC) simulation. We think these two different approaches will help experimenters to optimize Hall effect thruster performances.

Emergency Broadcast System Using Radio and DMB for Tunnel and Underground (라디오와 DMB 방송을 이용한 터널 및 지하차도용 비상방송시스템)

  • Tunnels and subterranean roads, which are representative evacuation facilities for national or regional disasters, have radio relay broadcasting facilities for legal reasons and convenience reasons. However, this system is limited to radio broadcasting and it is impossible to effectively communicate disaster or emergency situations that occur locally due to broadcasting of national broadcasting without DMB broadcasting. In order to improve this, we construct a remote disaster broadcasting system at each regional disaster station and implement a system to transmit it to each tunnel using internet or LTE network. The system in the tunnel transmits the emergency broadcasting signal through the existing relay equipment through the modulator which decodes the SMS, the media file, the real time broadcasting or the image received by the digital signal and converts it into FM and DMB frequency. The method proposed and implemented in this study can be used to provide efficient information and remote field control in case of emergency in tunnel and underground roadway.

Comparison Of CATHARE2 And RELAP5/MOD3 Predictions On The BETHSY 6.2% TC Small-Break Loss-Of-Coolant Experiment (CATHARE2와 RELAP5/MOD3를 이용한 BETHSY 6.2 TC 소형 냉각재상실사고 실험결과의 해석)

  • Best-estimate thermal-hydraulic codes, CATHARE2 V1.2 and RELAP5/MOD3, hate been assessed against the BETHSY 6.2 tc six-inch cold leg break loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA) test. Main objective is to analyze the overall capabilities of the two codes on physical phenomena of concern during the small break LOCA i.e. two-phase critical flow, depressurization, core water level de-pression, loop seal clearing, liquid holdup, etc. The calculation results show that the too codes predict well both in the occurrences and trends of major two-phase flow phenomena observed. Especially, the CATHARE2 calculations show better agreements with the experimental data. However, the two codes, in common, show some deviations in the predictions of loop seal clearing, collapsed core water level after the loop seal clearing, and accumulator injection behaviors. The discrepancies found from the comprision with the experimental data are larger in the RELAP5 results than in the CATHARE2. To analyze the deviations of the two code predictions in detail, several sensitivity calculations have been performed. In addition to the change of two-phase discharge coefficients for the break junction, fine nodalization and some corrections of the interphase drag term are made. For CATHARE2, the change of interphase drag force improves the mass distribution in the primary side. And the prediction of SG pressure is improved by the modification of boundary conditions. For RELAP5, any single input change doesn't improve the whole result and it is found that the interphase drag model has still large uncertainties.

Pre-Treatment of Sewage Sludge by Hydrodynamic Cavitation-II: Enhancement of Digestion Efficiency (수리동력학적 캐비테이션을 이용한 하수 슬러지의 전처리-II: 소화효율 향상)

  • Waste activated sludge from sewage treatment plants mainly consisted of flocs of bacterial cell, and thus hard to be stabilized anaerobically due to rigid cell walls. One of the pretreatment methods to overcome this barrier is the venturi cavitation system (VCS) adopting hydrodynamic cavitation. This research was conducted to investigate the effects of the pretreatment of waste activated sludge by VCS on the anaerobic digestibility. Depending on the pretreatment period with the VCS, methane production, COD removal and VS removal efficiency increased 41%~45%, 36.5%~43.1% and 18.4~24.1%, respectively, compared to the control case. The increase in methane production from digester was 3.3~4.2 times higher than the theoretical methane potential of the increased SCOD after the VCS pre-treatment. This suggests that the VCS pre-treatment not only increases SCOD but also improves the digestibility of solid fractions. The energy mass balance indicated that the energy consumed for sludge pre-treatment could be recovered by the increased methane production after pre-treatment, suggesting the high potential for field application.

  • 국내에는 17,500여개의 농업용 저수지가 전국적으로 분포하고 있다. 국내 농업용 저수지는 대부분이 소규모이며, 연중 수량 변동이 심하고, 유역배율이 작아 태생적으로 수질오염에 취약한 구조로 되어 있다. 특히 농업용 저수지는 도시 근교나 농촌지역에 많이 위치하고 있어 유역 내 축산 농가나 미처리 생활하수에서 유래된 유기물 및 영양염류 유입에 의한 수질오염도가 높다. 저수지에 고농도로 유입되는 유기물, TN, TP를 처리하기 위하여 농어촌연구원과 수생태복원(주)에서는 공동으로 친환경 수처리시설인 생태융합형 접촉산화시스템을 개발하였다. 생태융합 접촉산화수로는 상부 식생과 수로 내의 섬유상 끈상 미생물 접촉재를 이용하여 오염수가 수로를 흐르면서 침전, 여과, 흡착, 산화, 흡수 등 물리학적, 화학적, 생물학적 원리를 이용하여 고농도의 유기물과 질소, 인을 제거하는 물리적, 생물학적 공정을 융복합 기술이다. 본 연구에서는 경기도 시흥시에 소재하고 있는 M 저수지에 현장 Test-bed를 구축하여 수질정화효율을 평가하였다. M 저수지는 유효저수지량이 약 23만톤에 해당하는 소규모 저수지로, 1941년도 준공된 아주 노후화된 저수지로 평균 수심이 2m 이하이고 연중 수질오염도가 높은 저수지이다. 매화저수지 수변에 설치된 생태융합형 접촉산화수로의 전체규모는 길이 8.6m, 폭 2m, 수심 2m에 해당하며, 끈상 미생물 메디아조 3개($2{\times}2{\times}6m^3$), 침전조 1개($2{\times}2{\times}2m^3$)로 구성되어 있다. 기타 부대 장치로는 끈상 메디아조에 산소공급을 위한 Air-mist(마이크로 버블 발생장치), 자동운전계기판, 유입펌프 등이 있다. 생태융합형 접촉산화수로의 처리 공정은 유입수${\rightarrow}$에어미스트${\rightarrow}$고속복합응집장치${\rightarrow}$융복합 산화조(3조)${\rightarrow}$침전조${\rightarrow}$방류로 구성되어 있다. 테스트 베드는 2015년 8월 말경에 구축 완료하였으며, 끈상 미생물 메디아조의 수질정화효율을 평가하기 위하여 9월부터 11월까지 총 7회 걸쳐 유입수와 유출수를 각각 조사하였다. 현장 측정항목인 수온, pH, EC, DO 등은 유입수 및 유출수간 큰 차이가 없었고, COD, SS, Chl-a, TP 등은 수처리시스템 초기 가동시에는 메디아에 미생물 부착율 저조로 유입수 및 유출수 수질농도에 큰 차이가 없었으나, 운영시간의 경과와 함께 메디아의 미생물 충진율이 높아짐에 따라 처리효율이 최대 SS 69.6%, Chl-a 89.3%, TP 89%까지 도달하는 것으로 나타났다. 생태융합 접촉산화수로는 부지 집약적인 컴팩트한 수처리 시설로서 현재 널리 이용되고 있는 인공습지를 대체할 수 있는 경제적인 시설로 판단된다.

A Study on the Performance of Ondol with a Ventilation System (환기시스템을 갖춘 온돌 성능에 관한 연구)

  • Modern apartment houses are constructed to be relatively airtight with a high heat insulation system to increase the energy efficiency. Such a system has a range of deleterious effects due to the insufficient ventilation. In this study, the ondol system, which is used as a heat source typical of winter in Korea, was set as the default system to evaluate the indoor heat environment according to the ventilation method, the factors of energy reduction by the ventilation system was analyzed. The experimental apparatus was used to simulate the ambient conditions for a certain constant temperature and humidity chamber. The experimental results showed that the supply water temperature higher air volume decreases with increasing supply air temperature in the following order: floor supply/exhaust > total heat exchange supply/exhaust > forced supply/exhaust. Through this study, the applicability of various ventilations could be examined.

Measurement of Refractive Index Profile of Optical Fiber Using the Diffraction Phase Microscope (회절위상현미경을 이용한 광섬유의 굴절률 프로파일 측정)

  • We have developed a measurement method of the refractive index profile of an optical fiber by using diffraction phase microscopy. In the microscope system, the reference light was extracted directly from the probe light that passed through the sample by means of pinhole filtering with a diffraction grating. The spatial interference pattern produced by the probe light and the reference light was processed to generate the phase image of the sample fiber. The index profile was obtained by the inverse Abel transform of the phase profile. In order to remove the background phase that originated from the index difference between the cladding and the surrounding medium, the background phase was calculated from the phase data of the cladding to make a core phase profile that can be directly transformed to the index profile of the core without the full phase image that includes the entire cladding part.

  • The steady-state rotation of plasma centrifuge is theoretically analyzed to understand the physics of rotating plasmas and its feasibility for isotope separation. The centrifuge system under consideration consists of an annular gap between coaxial cylindrical anode and cathode in the presence of an externally-applied axial magnetic field. A problem for coupled partial differential equations describing centrifuge fields is formulated on the basis of the magnetohydrodynamic equations. Two-dimensional solutions are found analytically in the form of Fourier-Bessel series. The current density and velocity distributions are discussed in terms of the Hartmann number and the geometrical parameter of the system. At typical conditions, rotational speeds of the plasma up to the order of 10$^4$m/sec are achievable, and increase either with increasing Hartmann number, or with increasing ratio of the axial length to the inner radius of the cylinder. In view of much higher speeds of rotation which can be achieved in plasma centrifuge, it is expected that its efficiency is superior to mechanically driven gas centrifuges.
