  • As an effective means to convey crushed materials from seabed to onboard ship, air-lift pump provides a reliable mechanism due to its simple configuration and easy-to-operate principle. The present study is focused on fundamental investigation of related performance through analysis program based on the gas-liquid two-phase flow in circular pipes. It is summarized as important result that an optimum air mass flow rate exists for the maximum lifted liquid mass flow rate in terms of a given submergence rates.

  • Performance test of a full-scale turbopump assembly for a 75 ton class liquid rocket engine was carried out at full speed. Model fluid was used as a working medium: liquid nitrogen for the oxidizer pump, water for the fuel pump, and hot air for the turbine. The turbopump was operated stably, satisfying the performance requirements. Head coefficient and flow coefficient of the pumps remained constant at the speed-increasing period. In terms of performance characteristics of pumps and turbine, the results from the turbopump assembly test showed a good agreement with those from the turbopump component tests.

The present study is focused on investigation of related performance by the analysis program based on the gas-liquid two-phase flow in circular pipes. The program covers pump operating in isothermal and vertical two-phase flow with Newtonian liquids. It is summarized as important result that an optimum air mass flow rate exists for the maximum lifted liquid mass flow rate in terms of a given submergence rates. The comparison between riser performance of the conveyed liquid flow rate calculated by the computer program and measured data with large scale air lift pump system constructed in 200 meter depth vertical tank reveals similar distribution.

For the purpose of drawing up deep sea water without pump pit construction, tile authors are considering to use air-lift pump.   • Sludge discharger applied the principle of the air lift pump was investigated experimentally for the different design( diameter of discharge pipe, diameter and height of the inside and outside wall) and operating parameters(air flow rate, water level). And it was conducted that performance comparison about sludge discharger and conventional air lift pump. The result indicated that discharged liquid were increased with the increase of air flow rate and water level and decrease distance between inside and outside wall. The discharge pressure was increased with an increase of air flow rate and a decrease of the diameter of the discharge pipe, for both the sludge discharger and the airlift pump. The discharge pressures of the sludge discharger were 3-6 times higher than those of the air lift pump.

  • The solar powered water pump is very ideal equipment because solar power is more intensive when the water is more needed in summer and it is very helpful in the rural area, in which the electrical power is not available. The average so]ar radiation energy is 3.488 kWh/($m^2{\cdot}day$) in Korea. In this study, the automatic control logic and system of the water pump driven by the radiation energy were studied, designed, assembled, tested and analyzed for realizing the solar powered water pump. The experimental system was operated automatically and the cycle was continued. The average quantity of the water pumped per cycle was about 5,320 cc. The cycle time was about 4.9 minutes. The thermal efficiency of the system was about $0.030\%$. The pressure level of the n-pentane vapour in flash tank was 150$\%$450 hPa(gauge) which was set by the computer program for the control of the vapour supply. The pressure in the condenser and air tank during cycles was maintained as about 600 hPa and 1,200 hPa respectively. The water could be pumped by the amount of 128kg/($m^2{\cdot}day$) with the efficiency of $0.1\%$ and the pumping head of 10 m for the average solar energy in Korea.
