Network structure for Shared Virtual Environments (가상 공유 공간을 위한 네트워크 구조)

  • A multi-user virtual reality system supports shared environments for concurrent accesses by multiple users. The performance of these systems depends heavily on the network environments. This paper experiments an effective network model for shared virtual environments. This model has a middle layer called groups placed between the server and its clients, and the tasks of server are distributed to these groups. Using groups solves some of the problems of existing systems such as lack of scalability, message overheads, and latency due to message passing among locally communicating entities in the virtual environment. Some experiments show lower overhead than existing distributed virtual environment systems in WAN as well as LAN environments. This model also supports a method that can be used to construct application specific network environments using message handler which allows user-defined message formats.

  • Quadtree, which is a hierarchical data structure, is a very important data structure to represent binary images. The linear quadtree representation as a way to store a quadtree is efficient to save space compared with other representations. Therefore, it has been widely studied to develop efficient algorithms to execute operations related with quadtrees. The linear translation is one of important operations in image processing, which moves the image by a given distance. In this paper, we present an algorithm to perform the linear translation of binary images represented by quadtrees, using three-dimensional $n{\times}n{\times}n$ processors on RMESH (Reconfigurable MESH). This algorithm has constant-time complexity by using efficient basic operations to route the locational codes of quardtree on the hierarchical structure of n${\times}$n${\times}$n RMESH.

  • 본 논문에서는 차세대 통신 플랫폼을 위한 PCI Express의 전송계층과 데이터 연결계층의 모든 기능을 지원하는 PCI Express 컨트롤러를 설계하였다. 설계되어진 컨트롤러는 재전송 매커니즘을 효과적으로 지원하기 위해 제안되어진 송신버퍼 구조를 가지고 있다. 이 버퍼 구조는 전송 버퍼와 재전송 버퍼를 한 개의 버퍼로 통합하여 재전송 버퍼의 공간을 유동적으로 할당할 수 있는 방법이다. 또한 설계되어진 컨트롤러의 송신단 전송계층은 제안되어진 버퍼 구조 효과적으로 지원하도록 설계되어 졌다. 설계 되어진 컨트롤러의 각 블록을 효과적으로 관리하기 위해 80C51 마이크로프로세서를 내장하여 PCI Express 프로토콜을 제공하는 프로그램을 코딩하여 포팅하였다. 또한 설계되어진 컨트롤러의 검증을 위해, Host Bridge, 로컬 마스터 디바이스, 로컬 슬레이브 디바이스를 버스 동작 모델로 구성된 테스트 벤치도 제안하였다. 또한 실제 PCI Express 프로토콜 상에서 발생할 수 있는 모든 경우를 발생 하도록 하기 위해, 각 버스 동작 모델을 위한 어셈블러 명령어들을 정의 하였다.

  • Recently, as users' requests for high quality mobile multimedia services are rapidly increasing and additional bandwidth can be provided by adopting the hierarchical modulation transmission technology, the research on the Advanced Terrestrial DMB (AT-DMB) service using the SVC (Scalable Video Coding) scheme is being actively studied. But, in order to realize a compatible video service and to accelerate the successful standardization and commercialization, it is necessary to simplify the compatible encoder structure. In this parer, we propose a fast mode decision method by constraining the redundant coding modes in the spatial scalable encoder that keeps the current T-DMB video in base layer. The proposed method is based on the statistical characteristics of each coding mode at both base and enhancement layers, inter-layer predictions, which are derived by investigating macroblock-layer coding modes of the spatial scalable encoder's functional structure. Through computer simulations, it is shown that a simplified encoder model that reduces the heavy computational burden can be found, while keeping the objective visual quality very high.

The Spatial Changes of Qingguo Lane in Changzhou City Since the Ming and Qing Dynasties in China (중국 명청시대부터 창저우시 청과항(靑果巷)공간의 변천)

  • This study examines the historical and cultural landscape of Qingguo Lane (靑果巷) in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, China, focusing on the relationship between the changes in the landscape and the local residents from the Ming Dynasty to the present. By analyzing ancient maps, literature, and field photographs, the research reveals that the residents played a crucial role in the transformation of the Qingguo Lane landscape. The findings can be summarized as follows: Firstly, the naming of Qingguo Lane. 1) The name "Qingguo Lane" first appeared in the Changzhoufu and was mistakenly understood as a place for selling fruits. In reality, it was a residential area, and the name originated from descriptions of the plant landscape in poetry. 2) Qingguo Lane served as a residential area for the upper-class, including the prominent Bi-Ling Tang and Dong families, from the Ming Dynasty through the Qing Dynasty. Secondly, changes in administrative divisions and road development. 1) During the Ming Dynasty, Qingguo Lane spanned three administrative regions: Zhongwushang, Xiwushang, and Dongwushang, later narrowing to Xiwushang and Dongwushang during the Qing Dynasty. 2) The main road of Qingguo Lane with nine alleys running north to south, forming the historical and cultural preservation area of Qingguo Lane. Over time, the number of roads increased, and the area transitioned into a residential and commercial space, shaping the modern Qingguo Lane. Thirdly, the formation of the cultural landscape of the upper-class in Qingguo Lane. 1) The development of Qingguo Lane was influenced by population movements and growth during the peaceful period following the Yuan Dynasty massacres. The importance of the natural landscape attracted literati to settle there, and Qingguo Lane became a new residential area for the Changzhou upper-class as commerce and culture flourished. 2) From the late Ming Dynasty, Qingguo Lane gained social and cultural prominence through the garden culture of the upper-class. 3) The concentration of upper-class residents attracted many scholars and merchants, leading to the construction of numerous gardens. The literati of the Ming and Qing Dynasties helped shape the unique cultural landscape of Qingguo Lane, and in modern times, it has developed into a protected historical and cultural area with diverse functions as a multifunctional complex.

  • Quadtree, which is a hierarchical data structure, is a very important data structure to represent images. The linear quadtree representation as a way to store a quadtree is efficient to save space compared with other representations. Therefore, it has been widely studied to develop efficient algorithms to execute operations related with quadtrees. The computation of block location is one of important geometry operations in image processing, which extracts a component completely including a given block. In this paper, we present a constant time algorithm to compute the block location of images represented by quadtrees, using three-dimensional $n\times n\times n$ processors on RMESH(Reconfigurable MESH). This algorithm has constant-time complexity by using efficient basic operations to deal with the locational codes of quardtree on the hierarchical structure of $n\times n\times n$ RMESH.

  • Web applications based on J2EE($Java^{TM}$ 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition) were occurred for solution to overcome the limitations in time and space that the former applications had. Recently, lots of solutions using frameworks are being suggested to develope applications more quickly and efficiently. In this paper, we propose the template for several processes and types, which should be taken in presentation layer of web applications. This idea was based on the fact that web applications developers can concentrate on their specific tasks with independent manner in layered architecture. This template is XML-typed document that shows information about presentation layer of Web applications, which the user wants to compose. This template is inputted to the code generator. After then, the code generator generates skeleton code in presentation layer automatically after parsing information of XML documents. It means that we can develope Web applications more efficiently, by constructing skeleton code which inherits from hot spot classes of framework. Using this template and code generator, developer can develop Web applications with little practice and also is easy to cooperate with other developers to develop them just in time with distributing the standard development process.

  • The key characteristic of video data is its spatial/temporal relationships. In this paper, we propose an content based video retrieval system based on hierarchical data structure for specifying the temporal semantics of video data. In this system, video data's hierarchical structure temporal relationship, inter video object temporal relationship, and moving video object temporal relationship can be represented. We also implemented these video data's temporal relationship into an object-relational database management system using inheritance, encapsulation function overloading, etc. So more extended and richer temporal functions can be used to support a broad range of temporal queries.

  • GIS WEB 맵 서버는 다중 사용자 환경에서 신속한 요구 처리와 다양한 서비스를 수행해야 하며, 특히 맵 화면 표출 요구에 대한 신속한 처리 여부가 주요한 관건이 된다. 그러나 WEB 환경 하에서 공간 DBMS나 공간 파일시스템을 기반의 대용량의 공간 데이터를 처리는 성능향상에 한계가 있다. 본 논문에서는 공간 데이터를 영역별로 관리하는 계층적 형태의 공간 저장소구조를 제시하여, 이러한 한계를 극복하는 시스템을 제시하고자 한다.

A Study on the Effects of Urban Public Transportation Retrofitting for Sustainability (지속가능성을 위한 도시 대중교통 레트로핏(Retrofitting) 효과분석)

  • In recent years, it is very difficult to construct and expand new infrastructures in a city center because of long-term low growth and lack of space due to urban overcrowding. So, there is a need to study a variety of Retrofitting techniques and urban applications that can lead to sustainable development while efficiently utilizing existing facilities. 'Retrofit' means a sustainable urban retrofitting as a directed alteration of the structures, formations and systems of existing facilities to improve energy, water and waste efficiencies. In this study, we applied a hierarchical network design technique that can reflect the structural hierarchy of a city to study how to retrofit public transportation routes in Seoul. The hierarchical network design means dividing the hierarchy according to the functions of hubs and connecting different hierarchies to form a hierarchical network. As a result of comparing the application results of various retrofitting scenarios of public transport, the differences of daily PKT and PHT by about 2.6~3.2% less than before the improvement address that the convenience of passengers is increased. Therefore, it is expected that if the route planning is established according to the proposed method, it will increase the number of passengers and the operational efficiency by the improved convenience of public transit passengers.
