  • This research was aimed to analyze landslide susceptibility and compare the prediction accuracy using ensemble frequency ratio (FR) and logistic regression at the Inje area, Korea. The landslide locations were identified with the before and after aerial photographs of landslide occurrence that were randomly selected for training (70%) and validation (30%). The total twelve landslide-related factors were elevation, slope, aspect, distance to drainage, topographic wetness index, stream power index, soil texture, soil sickness, timber age, timber diameter, timber density, and timber type. The spatial relationship between landslide occurrence and landslide-related factors was analyzed using FR and ensemble model. The produced LSI maps were validated and compared using relative operating characteristics (ROC) curve. The prediction accuracy of produced ensemble LSI map was about 2% higher than FR LSI map. The LSI map produced in this research could be used to establish land use planning and mitigate the damages caused by disaster.

  • To find the location of a random noise source present in the three-dimensional space is required at least four microphones. Using four microphones distributed in a three-dimensional space, noise source imaging technique was applied and evaluated on their performance. To compensate resolution problem which comes from both the position of the sensor array is fixed and the sampling frequency is low, up-sampling technique and interpolation function were applied. Five different interpolation methods were applied such as zero-padding, zero-order hold, first-order hold, spline function, and random signal padding. The up-sampling rate were chosen by two, four, eight times, and counting up 16 times. As a result, it was possible to more accurately estimate the position of the noise source according to the higher of the up-sampling rate. It also found that the first-order hold and the spline function's performance were slightly falling relative to other methods.

  • This study describes analysis of genetic diversity and spatial genetic structure of Korean poplar (Populus koreana Rehder) in Mt. Odae using I-SSR markers. P. koreana is a deciduous broad-leaved tree species that primarily grows in the alpine valleys of China, Russia and North Korea. In South Korea, P. koreana is found limitedly in Gangwon province. Especially, the population in Mt. Odae is located on the southern limit line, its importance is emphasized from the genetic resource conservation perspective. The Shannon's diversity (I=0.230) and the expected heterozygosity (He=0.151) were relatively low as compared with those of other plant species. Spatial autocorrelation analysis using Tanimoto's distance showed that the genetic patch was founded within 400 m. It is suggested that individual trees for ex situ conservation should be sampled with a minimum distance of 400 m between trees.

  • This study is conducted to analyze environmental factors that affect the ecology of boreal digging frog and use them as basic data for selecting (or creating) suitability of alternative habitats for survival and monitoring method from 2020 to 2022 after boreal digging frog were relocated to the alternative habitats in 2019. Analyzing the environment of the alternative habitats showed that the criteria suited the followings: distance from wetlands, grasslands and rivers was within 5 m, the low-rise grassland was 6,000 m2, soft soil was at a depth of ≥20 cm, and the area of permanent wetlands was 5,000 m2 wide. As a result of the correlation analysis between meteorological factors and population (n) and breeding, there was a significant correlation between rainfalls and breeding (p<0.01). During the monitoring, it was confirmed that the SVL (Snout-Vent Length) and BM (Body Mass) of the translocated population were maintained (p>0.05), and it was found that the proximity of the habitat and spawning pond, securing food space (grasslands), soil quality, and wetlands could function as an alternative habitat if conditions were met. As a result of analyzing the meteorological factors affecting the population of boreal digging frog, the SVL had a statistical impact on the minimum temperature, maximum temperature, relative humidity, and the rainfall (p<0.05). In the case of breeding, rainfall was found to be affected (p<0.01), and the population was statistically affected by the average temperature, minimum temperature, and relative humidity (p<0.05).

  • The purposes of this research are twofold; 1) to verify spatial differences of tectonic movement using the spatial distribution of earthquakes, and 2) to infer mechanisms that generate spatial accumulation patterns of earthquakes in the Korean Peninsula. The first part of this sequential paper (Park, 2007) argues that the Korean Peninsula consists of four geostructural regions in which tectonic deformation and consequent geomorphological development patterns are different from each other Since this conclusion has been made by terrain analyses alone, it is necessary to verify this suggestion using other independent geophysical data. Because earthquakes are results of movement and deformation of land masses moving in different directions, the distribution of earthquake epicenters may be used to identify the direction and rates of land mass movement. This paper first analysed the spatial distribution of earthquakes using spatial statistics, and then results were compared with the spatial arrangement of geostructural regions. The spatial distribution of earthquakes in the Korean Peninsula can be summarized as the followings; firstly, the intensity of earthquakes shows only weak spatial dependency, and shows large difference even at adjacent regions. Secondly, the epicenter distribution has a clear spatial accumulation pattern, even though the intensity of earthquake shows a random pattern. Thirdly, the high density area of earthquakes shows a clear 'L' shape, passing through Pyeongannam-do, centered at Pyeongyang, and Hwanghae-do, Seosan and Pohang. The correlation coefficient between the density of earthquakes and distance from geostructral region boundaries is much higher than those between the density of fault lines and distance from tectonic division boundaries. Since fault lines and tectonic divisions in the Korean Peninsula are the results of long-term geological development, there is an apparent scale discrepancy to find significant correlations with earthquakes. This result verifies the research hypothesis that the Korean Peninsula is divided into four geostructral regions in which each has its own moving direction and spatial deformation characteristics. The existence of geostructural regions is also supported by the movement parrerns of land masses estimated from the GPS measurements. This conclusion is expected to provide a new perspective to understand the geomorphological developments and the earthquake occurrences in the Korean Peninsula.

  • In order to develop an effective mineral exploration technique, this study was carried out about the potential mapping of Gagok mine. The deposit model of Gagok mine is widely known. Based on the deposit model, we constructed mining indicator indices using related igneous rocks, faults, and carbonate rocks. By analyzing the spatial correlation between ore and indicator index structures, we decided the weighting values of indices according to the distance from the index structure. The 3D potential mapping was performed using 3D geological model and geological indices. The analyzed potential map verified that the locations and patterns of high potential regions of the results were well matched with those of the known ore bodies. Using the potential mapping results, we could effectively predict the location of a high potential area that has similar geological settings with ore.

  • This study developed a method which recognizes emotional interactions from the social distance by a beacon wearable device. The recognized interaction was evaluated by comparing with the cardiovascular synchrony from photoplethysmogram (PPG). The interaction was recognized when social distance was maintained for a certain period of time. The cardiovascular synchrony was estimated by correlation anaysis between beat per minute (BPM) from PPG. The maintenance time was determined by Mann-Whitney U test between the cardiovascular synchrony of interaction and non-interaction groups. Fifteen groups (2 persons per a group) participated in the experiment and they were asked to wear the beacon and PPG wearable devices in daily life. Experimental results showed that the interaction groups had more higher cardiovascular synchrony than non-interaction groups and the significant interaction time was determined to be 11 seconds (p=.045). Consequently, the real-time measurement and evaluation of the social network in real space was expected to be improved.

  • A dye-edge tracking algorithm was used to determine the corresponding points in the two images(anterior-posterior and lateral) of the digital subtraction biplane angiography. This correspondence was used to reconstruct three dimensional images of cerebral artery in a dog experiment. The method was tested by comparing the measured image of oblique view with the computed reconstructed image. For the present study, we have developed three new algorithms. The first algorithm is to determine the corresponding dye-edge points using the fact the dye density at the moving edge avows the same changing pattern in the two projection views. This moving pattern of dye-edge density is computed using a matching method of cross-correlation for the two sequential frames' dye density. The second algorithm is for simplified perspective transformation, and the third one is to identify the specific corresponding points on the small vessels. The present method can be applied to compute the blood velocity using the dye-edge displacement and the three- dimensional distance data.

  • Rainfall data is necessary component for water resources design and flood warning system. Most analysis are used long-term hourly data of surface synoptic stations from the Meteorological Administration, Ministry of land, Infrastructure and Transport and others. However, It will be used minutely data of more high density automatic weather stations than surface synoptic stations expecting to increase the frequency of heavy precipitation. But minutely data has a problem about quality of rainfall data by auto observation. This study analyzed about quality control method using automatic weather station's minutely rainfall data of meteorological administration. It was performed assessment of the quality control that was classified quality control of miss Data, outlier data and rainfall interpolation. This method will be utilized when hydrological analysis uses minute rainfall data.
