Interference-Free Tool Approach Directions in Multi-Axis NC Machining of Sculptured Surfaces (자유 곡면의 다축 NC 가공시 간섭 없는 공구 접근 자세 영역)

  • In this paper, an algorithm of computing interference-free tool approach directions(visibility cone) with consideration of tool volume at an arbitrary point of a sculptured surface is developed. The surface is first approximated into a polyhedron with smaller subpatches and the tool approach directions are evenly sampled so as to test accessibility. Then the visibility cone is computed by testing if each approach direction is interfered by other surface subpatches. The results are represented as the binary spherical map which transform geometric information on sphere into aogebraic one. The developed algorithm is implemented and tested by several sculptured surfaces, convincing it can be easily used as a tool for not only interference- free tool approach directions but also determining process planning of multi-axis NC machining of sculp- tured surfaces

개방형 구조를 갖는 복합다양체 모델러에서의 불리안 작업

  • 형상모델링(Geometric Modeling)은 컴퓨터 기술의 발전과 더불어 실제 3차원 물체를 정확하게 표현하려는 형태로발전하였다. 와이어프레임 모델링(Wireframe Modeling) 기술은 3차원 형상을 빠르게 모델링하고 이로 부터 치수 기입이 된 정확한 2차원 도면의 생성을 가능하게 하였다. 그러나, 면을 표현할 수 없기 때문에 모델의 표현이 모호해질 수 있다. 1960년대에 자유곡면의 가공을 위해 개발된 곡면 모델링(Surface Modeling) 기법은 NC 가공과 컴퓨터를 이용한 금형의 제작을 가능하게 했고 와이어프레임 모델링보다는 더 상세하게 모델 을 표현할 수 있게 되었다. 본 연구의 목적은 개방형 구조를 갖는 복합다양체 모델러에서의 불리안 작업을 구현하고 이의 결과를 가시화 하는데 있으며 개략적인 개방형 형상 모델링 시스템 Fig.1과 같다

A Study on Five-Axis Roughing of Impeller with Ruled Surface (룰드 곡면으로 된 임펠러의 5축 황삭 가공에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents an efficient 5-axis roughing method for centrifugal impeller. The efficient roughing is minimization of cutting time through minimizing tool tilting and rotating motions. To minimized cutting time, machining area is divided into sub-cutting regions using control points on hub curves and shroud curves of blade used to design and analyze centrifugal impeller. For sub-cutting regions, diameters of cutting tools are determined as big as possible. Then, tool paths are generated with the tilting axis and rotating axis of 5-axis machine limited and fixed, which can give more efficient machining speed and machining stability than the conventional methods. Experimental results show that the proposed method is more efficient than the conventional methods to mill with the only one cutting tool without dividing area and the previous methods to mill with simultaneous 5-axis processing with dividing area.

  • In order to construct the extrusion die surface of arbitrarily shaped sections, an automatic surface construction method based on NURBS surface and area mapping method is proposed in the present work. A center point fur area mapping is determined by introducing the mapping concept based on constant area proportionality between original billet and final product. The characteristic points of inlet profile are determined using the traditional area mapping method and the root finding numerical method. The inlet and outlet profiles are precisely described with NURBS curves using the characteristic points of entry and exit sections. For the construction of NURBS surface, an interpolation method for the pre-determined two section curves has been developed to be used in the generation of interior control points and weights. To show the validity of the proposed method, automatic die surface generation is carried out for the several kinds of shaped sections.

  • 정상상태 압연공정의 오일러리안 공정해석 모델에 관한 연구들을 종합 정리하였다 본 연구의 유한요소해석 모델은 집합조직의 발전에 따른 이방성과 미세기공의 성장에 따른 기계적 성질의 열성화를 평형방정식에 직접 결합하였다 따라서 집합조직의 발전 및 기공률의 변화를 예측하고 동시에 이방성과 기계적성질의 열성화를 해석에 반영할 수 있다. 더불어 오일러리안 해석에서 형상예측을 위하여 자유곡면 수정법과 유선추적법을 유한요소해석 모델에 결합하였다 본 연구의 공정해석 모델을 평판 압연, 클래드압연, 삼차원 사각단면봉의 압연 및 형상압연에 적용하여 집합 조기의 발전, R-값, 항복곡면, 결함성장 등의 기계적성질의 변화 예측과 클래드 압연시에 이중재 접촉면 형상, 배불림, 형상압연 시의 단면변화 등의 형상변화 예측을 보여주었다.

  • Automatic magnetic abrasive polishing (MAP), which can be applied after machining of a mold on a machine tool without unloading, is very effective for finishing a free-form surface such as a complicated injection mold. This study aimed to improve the efficiency of MAP of a non-ferrous mold surface. The magnetic array table and control of the electromagnet polarity were applied in the MAP of a free-form surface. In this study, first, the magnetic flux density on the mold surface was simulated to determine the optimal conditions for the polarity array. Then, the MAP efficiency for polishing a non-ferrous mold surface was estimated in terms of the change in the radius of curvature and the magnetic flux density. The most improved surface roughness was observed not only in the upward tool path but also in the working area of larger magnetic flux density.

  • The present CNC machining system if without any CAM software has been limited to 2D or 2.5D plane cut using lines, arcs and curves. If the CNC is equipped with a surface interpolation module and a surface reorganizing module inside it, we can easily try 3D surface machining without aid of CAM software. The existing NURBS surface interpolator is simple and direct to use for a unit surface. However, it enables only machining of each reference surface individually even when machining a simple composite surface. In this paper, we propose a method which can unify and reorganize various reference surfaces with a newly defined NURBS surface cycle command: a multi-repetitive cycle command such as in a CNC turning center. We also introduce a reorganizing rule for reference surfaces using NURBS properties. The usefulness of the proposed method is verified through computer simulation.

  • Lately, much research on hull plate forming has been successful in improving productivity of the forming process. Those researches include forming methods, forming information, and automation. After forming each plate, the fabricated surface is compared with the corresponding designed surface. Two sets of data from the designed and fabricated surfaces are matched in order to complete the forming process. However, only a few papers deals with comparison of two surfaces. This paper presents a new matching method based on the bounding volume hierarchy (BVH). By comparing the conventional method, this new approach using BVH shows not only good agreement but also better advantages.

  • A procedure has been developed so that a die-face for stamping automobile outer panels can be design and modelled efficiently. The procedure is composed of four parts each of which corresponds to modeling major components of a die-face, i.e. tipped product, blankholder, draw beads, and step draw. The modeling techniques developed specifically for die-face design enable a designer to generate the shape of a die-face quickly with the minimum input, and the resulting models can be used in FEM analysis and NC tool path generation. This will lead to the reductions in lead time and manhours required for the design and manufacture of the stamping dies.
