The use of medical devices is increasing due to the development of medical technology. Among medical devices, it is often used in the human body for graft and treatment. Therefore, in medical institutions, various sterilization methods according to the type and material of medical devices are applied to prevent infection. Hydrophosphite (HA) materials are the most popular in bone grafts. We would like to present a sterilization method using Q-switch Nd:YAG laser with high output energy among non-ionizing radiation suitable for small medical devices. In this study, sterilization power was most ideally shown at UV wavelengths of 1.5 W, 266 nm, and 10 pulses. Different wavelength bands; infrared and visible light; showed passive sterilization, and ultraviolet A and C showed differences in sterilization according to the pulse. In laser sterilization were differences that found according to the wavelength bands and pulses.
A laser pulse generator which consists of charging resistor, energy storage capacitor laser diode, and switching elements was designed in order to generate 15ns, 20W laser pulses. And the effects of performances of SCR and FET as switching elements are compared. When SCR is used, the SCR's low maximum voltage makes the circuit so complicated, and when FET is used, the FET needs the special sate driver which improves the FET's operation.
Utilizing self-phase modulation effects of a dispersion-shifted fiber and delayline characteristics of two gratings, mode-locked 80 ps pulses at 1.319 $\mu \textrm m$ wavelength from a Nd:YAG laser are compressed to 2.1 ps. This experiment is suitable for studying the transmission characteristics of high energy short pulses along normal fibers in zero dispersion regime.
The characteristics of stimulated Brillouin scattering wave for applications to high power laser was experimentally investigated. The peak power reflectivity and the phase conjugation fidelity of Stokes wave with respect to the focal length of lens were measured, and the phase conjugation fidelity for a compressed part of the Stokes wave was also investigated. For the long focal length of lens.(f=100 cm), the peak power of the Stokes wave amounts to about twice as high as that of incident wave. The phase conjugation fidelity for the compressed leading pulse is up to 90%, better than that for other temporal parts of the Stokes pulse. In spatial distribution, the Stokes pulse from the axial region has the largest SBS gain, and it has been ascertained as a best candidate to the application due to excellent pulse compression, peak power reflectivity, and good phase conjugation fidelity.

Laser-induced combustions and explosions generated by high laser irradiances were explored by Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS). The laser used for target ablation is a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser with 7 ns pulse duration at wavelength of 1064 nm laser energies from 40 mJ to 2500 mJ ($6.88{\times}10^{10}-6.53{\times}10^{11}W/cm^2$). The plasma light source from aluminum detected by the echelle grating spectrometer and coupled to the gated ICCD(a resolution (${\lambda}/{\Delta}{\lambda}$) of 5000). This spectroscopic study has been investigated for obtaining both the atomic/molecular signals of aluminum-oxygen and the calculated ambient condition such as plasma temperature and electron density. The essence of the paper is observing specific electron density ratio which can support the processes of chemical reaction and combustion between ablated aluminum plume and oxygen from air by inducing high laser energy.

In this paper, ultrasonic wave in the thermoelastic regime was generated in a steel disk by illuminating a pulse laser (Q-switched Nd:YAG) on the surface of the sample and was detected on the other side by Michelson interferometer which was stabilized by feed back control. The experimentally detected displacement waveform of the ultrasonic wave showed good agreement with the theoretically expected one. Also it was shown that sound speeds of longitudinal and shear wave were similar to ones measured by pulse-echo method using a contact transducer. As an application of the noncontact ultrasonic measurement by using laser based ultrasonics, the sound speed in the sample was monitored while the sample was heated in a furnace, and the result showed that it decreased according to the increase of sample temperature.
We present the measurement of the diffraction efficiency and response time of the photorefractive grating recorded in $LiNbO_3$ photorefractive crystal doped with 4%-mole MgO. Two laser sources were used in the experiments; frequency-doubled Q-switched Nd:YAG laser ($\lambda$=532 nm) and cw Ar-ion laser ($\lambda$=514.5 nm). The same optical geometry was also used in both experiments in order to maintain the experimental consistency. Using the two-wave mixing scheme in both experiments we measured the maximum diffraction efficiency in the range of beam intensity of 1.6~100 W/ $\textrm{cm}^2$, and the response times for both cases of recording and erasing. Two sets of results obtained from the experiments are compared and analyzed.

Recently, the developments in generating and amplifying ultrashort optical pulses $(ps=10^{-12}s or fs=10^{-15}s)$ have imposed on great advances in the time-resolved laser spectroscopy. Especially, the transient absorption spectroscopy has a wide application range and the main idea of this technique is pump & probe method. After the pump pulse makes the material an excited or a transient states, the probe pulse is sent through the material to measure the absorbance change due to the transient states. Here, if the absorbance change was measured by the time delay between pump & probe pulses, the dynamic information of the excited or the transient states (the transient abnsorption changes by time & wavelength) can be obtained. At our laboratory, the ultrashort optic1 pulse (
