Performance Evaluation of C/SiC Composites (C/SiC 복합재료의 내열성능 평가)

  • The main objective of this research effort was to develope the performance of C/SiC composites manufactured by LSI (Liquid Silicon Infiltration) method for solid and liquid rocket propulsion system and ensure the performance analysis technique. The various carbon preform were manufactured by filament winding, tape rolling, involute layup and stack molding process. For the best performance of thermal and mechanical properties, many process conditions were tested and selected by varying preform, the content of SiC, temperature, impregnation resin and chemical vapour reaction. In conclusion, the high performance and reliability of C/SiC composite were proved for solid and liquid rocket propulsion system. And the performance analysis technique related to mathematical ablation model was originated.

Analysis of Boundary Layer in Solid Rocket Nozzle and Numerical Analysis of Thermal Response of Carbon/Phenolic using Finite Difference Method (고체 로켓 노즐의 경계층 해석과 유한차분법을 이용한 탄소/페놀릭의 열반응 해석 연구)

  • The thermal response of carbon/phenolic used in a solid rocket nozzle liner was analyzed. In this paper, the numerical analysis of the thermal response of carbon/phenolic consists of (1) the integration equation of the boundary layer to obtain the convective heat transfer coefficient of the combustion gas on the rocket nozzle wall and (2) 1-D finite difference method for heat conduction of carbon/phenolic to calculate the ablation, char, and temperature. The calculated result was compared with the result of a blast-tube-type test motor. It is found that the calculated result shows good agreement with the thermal response of the test motor, except at the vicinity of the throat insert.

  • This paper investigated the composite materials application examples and trends in the future to the solid rocket motor cases. The motor case must be stiff and tolerate at the high pressures, and light weight. In accordance to these kind of requirements, the composite materials showed the adaptable efficiency, and glass fibers, aramid, carbon fibers are applied to orderly. The comparison of the motor case efficiencies of the D6AC steel alloy, aramid, carbon fibers results in the carbon fibers best. Also the capacity of the payload will be increased more than 20% by using the high strength ones.

  • As a preliminary study on a SOFC-GT hybrid system integrated a with coal-gasification system, the influence of the concentrations of $H_2$ and CO in syngas on the performance characteristics of the hybrid system is investigated. It is expected that the differences in the heating values of fuels with different compositions trigger the off-design operation of the gas turbine and result in different performance characteristics of the overall hybrid system. Syngas compositions are found to affect the SOFC performance. Performance of hybrid system with carbon monoxide is poorer than the case with hydrogen. In the case of part-load performance with syngas, performance degradation at part-load operating conditions with hydrogen is more dominant than the case with carbon monoxide.

Calibration of CR-39 for Hadron Radiotherapy using 400 MeV/u C ions (400 MeV/u 탄소 이온에 대한 방사선치료 선량 측정용 고체비적검출기의 교정)

  • In this study, equivalent dose and LET (Linear Energy Transfer) calibration of CR-39 SSNTD (Solid State Nuclear Track Detector) were performed using 400 MeV/u C heavy ions in HIMAC (Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba) for high LET radiation therapy. The irradiated CR-39 SSNDTs were etched according the etching condition of JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency). And the etched SSNTDs were analyzed by using Image J. Determined frequency mean dose (${\bar{y_D}}$)and dose-mean lineal energy (${\bar{y_F}}$)of 400 MeV/u C are about 8.5keV/mm and 10.1 keV/mm, respectively by using the CR-39 SSNTD. This value is very similar to the results calculated by GEANT4 Monte Carlo simulation and measured with TEPC (Tissue Equivalent Proportional Counter) active radiation detector. We could determine the equivalent dose and LET calibration factors of CR-39. And we confirmed that the CR-39 SSNTD was useful for high LET radiation dosimetry in hadron radiotherapy.

Economic Analysis of Livestock Manure Solid Fuel Manufacturing and Power Generation Facility (가축분뇨 고체연료 제조 및 발전시설의 경제성 분석)

  • The government promotes the 2050 carbon-neutral policy. Therefore, the concern to convert livestock manure into energy is increasing for the reduction of greenhouse gases generated in the livestock industry sector. In this study, the economic feasibility of the livestock manure solid fuel power generation facility, which is a major consumer of livestock manure solid fuel, was assessed to expand the demand for livestock manure solid fuel. The production cost of livestock manure solid fuel showed the lowest production cost of 97.4 thousand won/ton when dried using solid fuel at a 200 ton/day scale bio-drying facility. The livestock manure solid fuel power generation facility showed economic feasibility at a REC weight of 1.5 in the case of the bio-drying facility, so it was necessary to set a REC weight of 1.5 or more to expand the demand for livestock manure solid fuel. The conversion of livestock manure into solid fuel has various environmental benefits, such as the reduction of greenhouse gases and the effect of reducing non-point pollutants in the water system. Therefore, in order to expand livestock manure solid fuel production facility, it was required to review the feasibility including various environmental benefits.

  • The solid-state electrolyte based on polymer is applicable to various electrochemical devices including supercapacitor, battery, sensor, actuator and has great attention to develop its ionic conductivity from conventional polymer electrolyte by uisng wide range of ionic liquids. The research about ion gel as a solid state electrolyte with the ionic liquid has focused on the wearable and flexible electronic device to use as the high electrical and electrochemical performances, mechanical strength of polymer. In this work, we have investigated and developed solid-state electrolyte based on the ionic liquid and polymer with enhanced ionic conductivity and stability.

Determination of Thermal Decomposition Parameters for Ablative Composite Materials (삭마용 내열 복합재료의 열분해 반응인자 결정)

  • The thermal degradation of carbon/phenolic composite have been studied at high temperature by using thermogravimetric (TGA). A heating .ate of 5, 10, 15, 30 and $50^{\circ}C/min$ was used for the determination of thermal decomposition parameters of composite materials at high-temperature service. It has been shown that as the heating rates is increased, the peak decomposition rates are occur at higher temperature. Based on results of thermogravimetric analysis, the pyrolysis process is analyzed and physical and mathematical models for the process are proposed. The thermal analysis also has been conducted using transient heat conduction and the in-depth temperature distribution and the density profile were evaluated along the solid rocket nozzle. As a future effort the thermal decomposition parameter determined in this investigation will be used as input to thermal and mechanical analysis when subjected to solid rocket propulsion environment.
