The simulation model for metal-supported Solid Oxide Fuel Cell(SOFC) is developed in this study. Open circuit voltage is calculated using Nernst equation and Gibbs free energy is required by thermodynamic. The exchange current densities are compared with experimental results since exchange current density is most effective factor for the activation loss. Liu's study is used for the exchange current density of cathode, BSCF, and Koide's result is applied for the exchange current density of anode, Ni/YSZ. For the ohmic loss, ionic conductivity of YSZ is described from Kilner's mode and the data are compared with Wanzenberg's experimental data. Diffusivity is an important factor for the mass transfer through the porous medium. Both binary diffusion and Knudsen diffusion are considered as the diffusion mechanism. For validation, simulation results at this work are compared with our experimental results.
Recently by the development of the electronic engineering technology various mobile devices are developed. But their operation time need to be extended although capacity of the batteries are limited. We focused our attention to the portable SOFC system. Because SOFC has the high efficiency and a lot of strongness in comparison with other kinds of fuel cells, We evaluated hydrogen fed SOFC 50W system theoretically and got the results about the operating condition range from the comparison of the power efficiency, exhaust gas temperature, required heat for maintaining the operation temperature and operation time.
Advanced structure of metal-supported solid oxide fuel cells was devised to overcome sealing problem and mechanical instability in ceramic-supported solid oxide fuel cells. STS430 whose dimensions were 26mm diameter, 1mm thickness and 0.4mm channel width was used as metal support. Thin ceramic layer composed of anode(Ni/YSZ) and electrolyte(YSZ) was joined with STS430 metal support by using a cermet adhesive. $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Co_{0.4}Mn_{0.6}O_{3}$ perovskite oxide was used as cathode material. It was noted that oxygen reduction reaction of cathode governed the overall cell performance from oxygen partial pressure dependance.
The decrease of polarization resistance in cathode is the key point for intermediate temperature SOFC(Solid Oxide Fuel Cell). In this study, the Influence of Co substitution in B-site at perovskite PSCM (Pr0.3Sr0.7CoxMn(1-x)) was investigated. The PSCM series exhibits excellent MIEC(Mixed ionic Electronic Conductor) properties. The ASR(Area Specific Resistance) of PSCM3773 was $0.174{\Omega}cm^2\;at\;700^{\circ}C$. The activation energy of PSCM3773 was also lower than other compositions of PSCM. The ASR values were increased gradually during the thermal cycling test of PSCM37773 due to the delamination between electrolyte and cathode materials.

SOFC is a high temperature fuelcell with many advantages, but it also have several demerits. One of the Issues is cathode poisoning of Cr coming from stainless steel interconnects. Diffusion process of Cr evaporated from the surface of interconnect steel was calculated by using CFD technique to understand factors for Cr deposition. It has been cleared that factors concerned in Cr deposition and how they affect Cr deposition. Major variables for Cr deposit ion are diffusion coefficient, air velocity and temperature If diffusion coefficient decreases, Cr concentration increases in the air but decreases on the cathode surface. Increasing in air velocity, Cr concentration decreases in the air and on the cathode surface. Increase in temperature leads to rising Cr concentration on the cathode surface because of diffusion coefficient increment.
Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs) have received considerable attention because of the advantages of high effiiciency, low pollution, cogeneration application and excellent integration with simplified reformer In this paper, we reported development of anode-tubular SOFC by wet process. For making tubular cell, Ni-cermet YSZ anode tube was fabricated using extrusion process, and YSZ electrolyte layer and LSM-YSZ composite, LSM, LSCF cathode layer were coated onto the anode supported tube using slurry dipping process and sintered by co-firing process. By using this tubular cell, we fabricated single cell consisted of the various cathode layers and 4 cell stack with an effective area of $75 cm^2$ per single cell, and evaluated their performance characteristics.

Thermodynamic performance analysis has been carried out for a hybrid electric power generation system combining a gas turbine and a solid oxide fuel cell and operating at over-atmospheric pressure. Performance characteristics with respect to main design parameters such as maximum temperature and pressure ratio are examined in detail. Effects of other important design parameters are investigated including fuel cell internal parameters such as fuel utilization factor, steam/carbon ratio and current density, and system parameters such as recuperator efficiency and compressor inlet temperature.
Hybrid power generation systems combining a solid oxide fuel cell and a gas turbine is promising due to their high efficiency. In the pressurized hybrid system, the operating condition of the gas turbine may play a critical role in designing the hybrid system. In particular, prevention of surge of the compressor can be a critical issue. The existence of fuel cell between the compressor and the turbine may cause an additional pressure loss and thus compressor operating points tend to approach the surge if the original turbine inlet temperature is pursued. In this study, bypassing some of the turbine inlet gas directly to the turbine exit side is simulated. Its effects on suppressing the surge problem and change in performance characteristics are discussed.
In this study, the performance degradation of SOFC single cell caused by the delamination between a cathode and an electrolyte is investigated. As the delamination rate increases, the voltage sharply decreases due to the decrease of reaction sites and losses increase. The current is concentrated to the intact area so that the current density is increased and the ohmic loss and the activation loss become higher. Most part of loss is due to the ohmc loss of electrolyte.
This study presents 0-dimensional model for solid oxide fuel cells(SOFCs). The physics of the cell and the simplifying assumptions are presented, and only hydrogen participates in the electrochemical reaction. The electrical potential is predicted using this model. The Butler-Volmer equation is used to describe the activation polarization and the exchange current density is changed according to the partial pressure of reactants and the temperature. The electrical conductivities of electrodes and an electrolyte are calculated for the ohmic polarization. Material characteristics and temperature affect those factors. Analysis of concentration polarization based on transport of gaseous species through porous electrodes is incorporated in this model. Both binary diffusion and Knudsen diffusion are considered as the diffusion mechanism. For validation, simulation results at this work are compared with our experimental results and numerical results by other researchers.
