  • The microstructure and soft magnetic properties of as-deposited Fe-Hf-O thin film alloys, which are produced at $P_{O2}=10%$ by rf magnetron sputtering method in $Ar+O_2$ mixed gas atmosphere, is investigated. Newly developed $Fe_{82}Hf_{3.4}O_{14.6}$ film exhibits good soft magnetic properties with $4{\pi}M_s=17.7$ kG, $H_c=0.7$ Oe and ${\mu}_{eff}$(0.5~100MHz)=2,500, respectively. The Fe-Hf-O films are composed of $\alpha$-Fe nanograins and amorphous phase with larger amounts of Hf and O elements which chemically combine each other. With increasing Hf area fraction, Hf and O contents increased proportionally. It was considered that O content in films was determined by Hf contents, because O was chemically combined with Hf. It results from decreasing the $\alpha$-Fe grain size by precipitates (Hf and O), high electrical resistivity. The $Fe_{82}Hf_{3.4}O_{14.6}$ film exhibits the quality factor (Q=$\mu$'/$\mu$") of 25 at 20 MHz. These good frequency characteristics are considered to be superior to other films already reported.o other films already reported.

  • Digital technology is gradually expanding its field and has a great influence on various fields of dentistry. Recently in digital dentistry, the importance of superimposing various 3-dimensional (3D) image data is emerging, in order to utilize gathered data effectively for diagnosis and prosthesis fabrication. Integrating data from facial scans, intraoral scans, and mandibular movement recordings can create a virtual patient. A virtual patient is formed by integrating digital 3D diagnostic data such as intraoral and extraoral soft tissues, residual dentition, and dynamic occlusion, and the results of prosthetic treatment can be evaluated virtually. The patients in this case report were a 37-year-old female whose chief complaint is that the appearance of the existing prosthesis was distorted and a 55-year-old female patient whose anterior prosthesis needed to be refabricated after the endodontic treatment. 3D facial scans were obtained from each patient, and the patient's mandibular movements were recorded using ARCUS Digma 2 (KaVo Dental GmbH, Biberach an der Riss, Germany). The collected data were integrated on computer-aided design (CAD) software (Exocad dental CAD; exocad GmbH, Darmstadt, Germany) and transferred to a virtual articulator to create a digital virtual patient. The temporary fixed prostheses were designed, restored, and evaluated, and it was reflected into the final restorations. With the aid of the virtual dental patient, accuracy and predictability could be increased throughout treatment, simplifying the occlusal adjustment and clinical evaluation with improved esthetic outcomes.

  • In this study, Korean older adults (70-75 yrs) were divided into two groups according to the degree of reading exposure, and real-time data were collected through a reading eye movement tracking experiment. Then, overall reading patterns and word frequency ef ects were compared with two groups of older adults and younger adults (20-28 yrs). Furthermore, through the results of the eye movement tracking experiment of older adults with rich reading exposure and older adults with poor reading exposure, we tried to find out whether reading performance af ects not only changes in age but also reading exposure. As a result of the experiment, the older adults with poor reading exposure group generally had a longer fixation time and a shorter saccade than the younger adults group, and the older adults with rich reading exposure group showed the same reading patterns as the younger adults group. The word frequency ef ect was confirmed in all groups, and the fixation time was short in the order of older adults with rich reading exposure group and older adults with poor reading exposure group. In addition, an interaction ef ect was shown in the two elderly groups according to reading exposure, but no interaction could be confirmed in the dif erence between the younger adults group and the older adults with rich reading exposure group. This suggests the possibility that reading performance is not af ected by age itself, but by the reading experience of the elderly.

  • Shear test procedure for concrete-dowel interaction was proposed along with determination of dowel support reaction factor or shear spring stiffness constant using the spreadsheet example. For this task, three AASHTO-type standard specimens were prepared to simulate behavior of the jointed concrete pavement. A side support system was adopted to minimize twisting of the test specimen which had been observed in a preliminary test. A typical elastic behavior of the dowel-concrete interaction was observed from several test loops of loading, unloading and reloading procedures. However load versus slab displacement represents to be nonlinear. Test results show that the dowel support reaction factor ranges from 550-880 GN/m3, which is 1.4-2.2 times greater than 407GN/m3 proposed by Yoder and Witczak. This is because less torsional distraction was occurred with the help of a side support system adopted in this experiment. The dowel support reaction factor or shear spring stiffness constant obtained from the procedures proposed in this paper may be used as a reference data for the structural analysis of jointed concrete pavement.

  • Traumatic injuries in the young permanent dentition are common, but root fractures, defined as fractures involving dentin, cementum and pulp, are relatively uncommon. Appropriate management of root fracture involves repositioning the coronal portion of the tooth fragment and firm immobilization with a splint for 2 to 3 month. Root canal treatment should not be initiated until the sign of necrosis or resorption are apparent because in most cases, the apical fragments maintain their vitality. The following case report describes a patient with root fractures injured three times over the period of 7 years. The results, clinically and radiographically, were acceptable, but long term periodic evaluation is required.

  • Tooth wear, one of the physiological changes in the elderly patient's mouth, generally does not require treatment, but requires prosthodontic restoration when occlusal disharmony, poor masticatory function, pulp exposure occurs. One of the primary considerations in prosthodontic restoration for tooth wear is vertical dimension. It is necessary to make an accurate diagnosis and analysis, correct judgement of the interdental relationship for predictive treatment plan. A step-by-step approach considering dental care for aged is also required. In this case, a 93-year-old male patient presented with worn dentition and mobility of existing fixed dental prosthesis. After diagnosis and evaluation, maxillary rehabilitation without any change in the occlusal vertical dimension was performed and this shows satisfactory results both functionally and morphologically.

  • The fiber-optic biosensor using enzyme-immobilized Langmuir-Blodgett film is developed fort the measurement of ethanol. The enzyme, alcohol dehydrogenase, is immobilized at the molecular level on the arachidic acid monolayer using Langmuir-Blodgett film technique. Based on the ordered multisubstrate mechanism, the immobilized enzyme kinetics is investigated. The optical sensing system is proposed, and sensor signal is proportional to ethanol concentration and is related wish the number of enzyme layers. As the number of deposited LB film layer increases up to 20 1ayers, the high ethanol concentration of 45mM can be measured without the saturation of signal. Surface pressure-area isotherm is measured for the three-different charged-lipids. Arachidic acid is the most suitable for the adsorption of alcohol dehydrogenase based on electrostatic force.

  • Neuroblastoma is a common malignant tumor of the sympathetic nervous system in childhood, arises from embryonic neural crest cells. The period of tooth development is matched with peak times of diagnosis and treatment of neuroblastoma. The intensive multimodality treatment including radiotherapy and chemotherapy is used in patients with neuroblastoma has been shown to have late adverse effects and disturbances in dental development like tooth agenesis, microdontia, enamel hypoplasia and short roots. A 8-year old girl had been on medication and radiotherapy for neuroblastoma since she was 15 months old at Department Pediatrics, Chonnam National University Hospital. Oligodontia, microdontia, and short root formation was notable in clinical and radiological examination. Mobility of lower permanent incisor was detected and measured at about degree 2. Resin wire splint using mini-screw implantation on buccal alveolar bone was conducted for maintenance of mandibular incisors and alveolar bone. Excessive mobility has been eliminated and maintained well so far. Further treatment is planned for re-evaluation of mobility, preventing dental caries and regular oral hygiene management. Although we need further evaluation, this treatment could be one of alternative therapy for those who have similar dental anomalies.

  • This study shows the results of safety analysis obtained from the three different wire rope connections in the RPSD (Rope Platform Screen Door) system, which are the rope connected at both ends, the ropes connected by a pulley at both ends, and the ropes connected by many pulleys at both ends. With a constant load applied, the displacements in the ropes connected by a pulley at both ends and the ropes connected by many pulleys at both ends are smaller than that in the rope connected at both ends. There are no any special different displacements between the ropes connected by a pulley at both ends and the ropes connected by many pulleys at both ends. The displacement in the wire rope diameter of 6mm is smallest of 4.83mm and the strains from the displacements in the ropes connected by a pulley at both ends and the ropes connected by many pulleys at both ends are very small.
