  • The improvement in logistics competitiveness is the key element of corporate competitiveness in the era of severe competition among companies and high oil prices due to globalization. For this reason, this study analyzed the effect of transportation mode selection factors of Indonesian export companies on the logistic performance in accordance with the logistics environment. The results of the analysis show that only the cargo characteristics, which are the transportation mode selection factor of export companies, had a significant effect on logistics; the services, time, and expenses, on the other hand, had no effect on logistics performances. This result reflects the poor logistic infrastructure of Indonesia. While the export company considers service, time, and expenses when choosing transportation mode, it had no effect on logistic performances due to poor logistic infrastructure. The poor logistic infrastructure of Indonesia has caused a rise in the overall logistic expenses of companies due to excessive transportation time over the transportation distance, unavailability of on-time acceptance and delivery, and increase in the transportation expenses and subsidiary expenses. These are also the factors that decrease the competitiveness of export companies and affect the promotion of the manufacturing industry and foreign investment for the purpose of job creation and industrialization by the Indonesian government. Therefore, the logistics infrastructure must be improved initially. This study determines various points in terms of the logistics infrastructure environment of Indonesia, a developing country, using previous studies and provides their implications.

In the result of the longitudinal study on depression level of the elderly aged 65 and over, the individual depression level was confirmed become lowered over time, showing a positive change. Also, the conditional model of Latent Growth Modeling (LGM) was applied to identify specific social network factors that influence the longitudinal change of depression level of the elderly. In the result of the analysis, it was found that initial value of depression of the elderly was influenced by whether they have a spouse or not, number of household member, meeting with close people, whether they do economic activity or not, whether they have a religion or not, etc. and the rate of change in depression of the elderly was influenced by number of household member, meeting with close people, expectation about life, etc. Through above results, this study suggests a need for specific programs and supports to continuously lower the depression level of the elderly.

  • The purpose of this descriptive correlational study was to explore the effect of knowledge of evidence-based practice (K-EBP) and organizational culture on the innovation behavior of university librarians in South Korea. The structured survey questionnaire consisted of four sections and 60 items. The four sections were concerned with K-EBP, organizational culture, innovation behavior, and EBP-related activities and demographic. The respondents were librarians working in 101 university libraries in South Korea. The results of this study were as follows. First, K-EBP indicated that the respondents had excellent practical skills, but their ability to appraise critically, apply knowledge and to conduct research was weak. Second, the questionnaire scores for K-EBP were significantly positively correlated with those for organizational culture and innovation behavior. Higher K-EBP scores corresponded to higher scores for relation-, innovation-, and task-oriented organizational culture. Third, K-EBP outcomes differed significantly by age group, education level, employment type, job title/seniority, reading of academic journal articles, and attendance at conferences. Organizational culture differed significantly with age. Innovation differed significantly with both age and conference attendance. Fourth, in the hierarchical multiple regression analysis, factors predicting K-EBP scores were education level and reading academic journals. Fifth, the multiple regression analysis identifying factors predicting innovation revealed statistically significant regression coefficients for overall K-EBP and for innovation- and hierarchy-oriented organizational culture. The regression coefficient for perception of a hierarchy-oriented organizational culture was negative. To promote innovation behavior of librarians, we need to foster an innovative organizational culture characterized by communication and cooperation, and improve the ability of librarians to engage in EBP. Educational programs that promote librarian engagement in research-related activities are needed.
