Distributions of the Temperature and Salinity in Kamak Bay (가막만의 수온과 염분의 분포)

  • The distributions of the temperature and salinity in Kamak bay which has two channels and three sea bottom topographic parts were studied by taking the detailed hydrographic data at the ebb and flood during four seasons from May, 1988 to Feb., 1989. The general pattern of the distributions of characteristics which the temperature and salinity has in Kamak bay is basically formed by the topography and sea water movement of the bay. The changes of these distributions by seasons mainly come from the heating and cooling of the sea surface and the increase of the run-off. The bay has three remarkable water masses and the their general characteristics are follows: the inner bay water has a stagnation character influenced by the inland and the concave of the sea bottom in the north west, Yosu harbor water has an estuary character of the low salinity caused by the run-off of Somjin river and Yon Tung brooklet in the north east, and the outer bay water has an out-sea character, as it is located near by the big mouth in the south of the bay. The distributions of those water masses at the ebb and flood show some different features due to the flow patterns, and the daily changes of oceanic conditions at the vicinity of Hangdae-ri are so big that it may influence the habitation and production of the living things in the bay.

Effect of Thermal Management of Lithium-Ion Battery on Driving Range of Electric Vehicle (리튬이온 배터리의 열관리가 전기자동차 주행거리에 미치는 영향)

  • The performance of lithium ion batteries used in electric vehicles (EV) varies greatly depending on the battery temperature. In this paper, the finite difference method was used to evaluate the temperature change, state of charge (SOC), internal resistance, and voltage change of the battery due to heat generation in the battery. The simulation model was linked with AMESim to calculate the driving range of an EV traveling in New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) mode. As the temperature dropped below $25^{\circ}C$, the internal resistance of the battery increased, which increased the amount of heat generated and decreased the driving range of EV. At battery temperatures above $25^{\circ}C$, the driving range was also decreased due to reduced SOC that deteriorated the battery performance. The battery showed optimal performance and the driving range was maximized at $25^{\circ}C$. When battery temperatures of $-20^{\circ}C$ and $45^{\circ}C$, the driving range of EV decreased by 33% and 1.8%, respectively. Maintaining the optimum battery temperature requires heating the battery at low temperature and cooling it down at high temperature through efficient battery thermal management. Approximately 500 W of heat should be supplied to the battery when the ambient temperature is $-20^{\circ}C$, while 250 W of heat should be removed for the battery to be maintained at $25^{\circ}C$.

Fatty Acid Composition of Canned Fish and Shellfish Products on Korean Market (국내시판 수산물통조림의 지방산조성)

  • The fatty acid composition of lipids separated from 14 kinds of canned fish and shellfish products from the market were examined. The crude lipid contents of canned fish and shellfish products showed wide difference (1.3-15.2%) depending on raw materials and kinds of products. Fatty acid composition of products were mainly consisted of polyenoic acid(34.5-61.4%), and followed by saturated acid(24.5-47.8%), monoenoic acid(12.4-32.0%). The major fatty acids were palmitic acid, palmitoleic acid oleic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid. In case of canned tuna in oil and canned smoked oyster in oil, linoleic acid was the most predominant component(48.2%, 34.6%). Judging from the results, canned fish and shellfish products were abundant of the polyunsaturated fatty acids in spite of the high temperature sterilization and lone storage periods.

  • 본 실험에서는 $CuInSe_2$, 3원물질을 화학량론적 조성비가 되도록 박막을 제조하기 위해 각 단위원소를 원자비에 맞춰 전자선가열 진공증착기를 사용하여 Cu, In, Se 순으로 증착하였다. $10^{-3}$torr 이상의 진공석영관에서 열처리와 동시에 Selenization을 통해 제작된 $CuInSe_2$박막은 열처리온도 $250^{\circ}C$에서는 $Cu_xSe$, CuSe등의 2차상들이 나타나다가 $450^{\circ}C$이상의 고온에서 $CuInSe_2$ 단일상을 형성하였다. 이로부터 진공중에서 반응을 시켰을 때, 더 낮은 온도에서 반응이 일어나고 열역학적으로 보다 안정한 소수의 화합물들이 쉽게 형성됨을 확인할 수 있었다. 특히 $250^{\circ}C$에서는 Sphalerite 구조를 가지다가 $350^{\circ}C$이상의 온도에서 Selenization하였을 때 Chalcopyrite 구조를 가졌다. 박막이 두꺼워지면서 결정립의 크기가 커지고 응력이 작아지는 특성을 보였다. 에너지 밴드갭은($E_g$)은 Cu/In 성분비율이 클수록 작은값을 보였으며, 결절립크기가 증대되므로 결국 흡수계수가 낮아짐을 알 수 있다. 또한 두께가 증가할수록 전반적으로 흡수계수가 증가하였고 Cu/In의 성분비율이 0.97일 때 기초흡수파장은 1,169nm이고 에너지밴드갭은 1.06eV이었으며, 두께 $1.5{\mu}m$이상일 때 전반적으로 양호한 상태의 p-type $CuInSe_2$ 박막을 제작 하였다.

  • Concrete tunnel lining must be designed to having the fireproof performance because the lining are sometimes exposed to very high temperature due to traffic accident. Such fire temperature may cause explosion of concrete, or collapse of tunnel structure. The purpose of this study is to obtain the fundamental fireproof behavior of fire resistance-engineered cementitious composites(FR-ECC) under fire temperature in order to use the fire protection material in tunnel lining system. The present study conducted the experiment to simulate fire temperature by employing 2 types of FR-ECC and investigated experimentally the explosion and cracks in heated surface of these FR-ECC. Employed temperature curve were hydro carbon(HC, ECl) criterion, which are severe in various criterion of fire temperature. The numerical analysis is carried out the nonlinear transient heat flow analysis and verified against the experimental data. The complex features of behavior in fire conditions, such as thermal expansion, plasticity, cracking or crushing, and material properties changing with temperature are considered. By the use of analytical model, the concrete tunnel subjected to fire loads were analyzed and discussed. With comparison of current concrete materials and FR-ECC, the experimental and analytical results of FR-ECC shows the better fire resistance performance than the other.

Quality Characteristics and Antioxidant Activities of Green Tea Garlic Paste added Calcium (칼슘첨가 녹차마늘 페이스트의 품질 특성 및 항산화성)

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality characteristics and antioxidant activities of green tea garlic paste added calcium. Garlic was heated with green tea and charcoal at high temperature ($120^{\circ}C$) and high pressure ($1.5\;kgf/cm^2$) for 20 min, and then added several calcium sources (calcium carbonate, calcium citrate, calcium lactate, mixed calcium, calcium powder). Calcium carbonate, mixed calcium or calcium powder significantly increased pH of green tea garlic paste (p<0.05). All kinds of calcium sources significantly increased the viscosity of green tea garlic paste (p<0.05). Solid soluble content of green tea garlic paste was increased only in calcium citrate and calcium powder groups. Lightness, redness and yellowness of green tea garlic paste with calcium were increased, compared with control group (green tea garlic paste without calcium). The antioxidant activities by DPPH and hydroxyl radical scavenging activity of green tea garlic paste added calcium citrate, calcium lactate or calcium carbonate group were much higher than those of the other control groups. The garlic odor and garlic taste by sensory test were significantly weaker in calcium carbonate or calcium citrate group (p<0.05). Based on these results, it was suggested that calcium carbonate or calcium citrate is appropriate material for deodorizing and fortifying agent for green tea garlic paste.

Response of Water Temperature in Korean Waters Caused by the Passage of Typhoons (태풍 이동 경로에 따른 한반도 연근해 수온의 반응)

  • In this study, variations in water temperature after the passage of typhoons in Korean waters from 2009-2015 were analyzed. Sea surface temperature (SST) images derived from satellite remote sensing data were used, and water temperature information came from real-time mooring buoys at Yangyang, Gangneung, Samcheok and Yeoungdeok, while wind data was supplied by the Korea Meteorological Administration. Differences in SST observed before and after the passage of a typhoon using the SST images were found to be affected by wind direction as well as hot and cool seasonal tendencies. Coastal water temperatures of the eastern part of the Korean peninsula, located to the right of a typhoon, as in the case of typhoons Muifa, Chanhom, Nakri and Tembin, were lowered by a coastal upwelling system from southerly winds across the water's surface at depths of 15m and 25m. In particular, typhoons Chanhom and Tembin decreased water temperatures by about $8-11^{\circ}C$ and $16^{\circ}C$, respectively. However, temperatures to the left of the typhoons were increased by a downwelling of offshore seawater with a high temperature through the mid and lower seawater layers. After the passage of the typhoons, further mixing of seawater at a higher or lower temperature due to southerly or northerly winds, according to the context, lasted for 1-2 or 4 days, respectively.

Study on the growth of 4H-SiC single crystal with high purity SiC fine powder (고순도 SiC 미분말을 적용한 4H-SiC 단결정 성장에 관한 연구)

  • High purity SiC fine powder with metal impurity contents of less than 1 ppm was synthesized by improved carbothermal reduction process, and the synthesized powder was used for SiC single crystal growth in RF heating PVT device at temperature above 2,100℃. In-situ x-ray image analyzer was used to observe the sublimation of the powder and single crystal growth behavior during the growth process. SiC powder was used as a source of single crystal growth, exhausted from the outside of the graphite crucible at the growth temperature and left graphite residues. During the growth, the flow of raw materials was concentrated in the middle and influenced the growth behavior of SiC single crystals. This is due to the difference in temperature distribution inside the crucible due to the fine powder. After the single crystal growth was completed, the single crystal ingot was cut into a 1 mm thick single crystal substrate and finely polished using a diamond abrasive slurry. A dark yellow 4H-SiC was observed overall of single crystal substrate, and the polycrystals generated in the outer part may be caused by the incorporation of impurities such as the bubble layer mixed in the process of attaching the seed crystal to the seed holder.

Heterocyclic Amines Removal by Binding Ability of Lactic Acid Bacteria Isolated from Soybean Paste (된장에서 분리된 유산균의 결합력에 의한 Heterocyclic Amines 제거)

  • The objective of the this study was to investigate the binding capacity and removal ability of lactic acid bacterial strains obtained from Korean soybean paste for mutagenic heterocyclic amines (HCAs) formed during cooking of protein-rich food at high temperature. Among 19 strains identified by carbohydrate fermentation and 16S rRNA sequencing, the live cell or cell-free culture supernatant of Lactobacillus acidophilus D11, Enterococcus faecium D12, Pediococcus acidilactici D19, L. acidophilus D38, Lactobacillus sakei D44, Enterococcus faecalis D66, and Lactobacillus plantarum D70 inhibited the mutagenesis caused by either 3-amino-1,4-dimethyl-5H-pyrido[4,3-b] indole (Trp-P-1) or 3-amino-1-methyl-5H-pyrido[4,3-b] indole (Trp-P-2) in Salmonella typhimurium TA98 and TA100. The bacterial cells of the isolated strains showed greater binding activity than the pure cell wall, exopolysaccharide, and pepetidoglycan. The carbohydrate moieties of the cell wall or protein molecules on the cell surface have a significant role in binding Trp-P-1 and Trp-P-2, since protease, heating, sodium metaperiodate, or acidic pH treatments significantly (P<0.05) reduced the binding efficacy of the tested bacteria. Addition of metal ions or sodium dodecyl sulfate decreased the binding ability of E. faecium D12, L. acidophilus D38, and E. faecalis D66. Therefore, the binding mechanisms of these strains may consist of ion-exchange and hydrophobic bonds. Especially, the high mutagen binding by L. acidophilus D38 and L. plantarum D70 may reduce the accumulation or absorption of Trp-P-1 and Trp-P-2 in the small intestine via increased excretion of a mutagen-bacteria complex.

A Study on the Diffuser Design of Exhaust Pipes for the Infra-Red Signature Reduction of Naval Ship (함정 적외선 신호 감소를 위한 폐기관의 디퓨져 설계에 관한 연구)

  • In modern naval ships, an infrared signature suppression (IRSS) system is used to reduce the metal surface temperature of the heated exhaust pipe and high-temperature exhaust gases generated from the propulsion system. Generally, the IRSS systems used in Korean naval ships consist of an eductor, mixing tube, and diffuser. The diffuser reduces the temperature of the metal surface by creating an air film due to a pressure difference between the internal gas and the external air. In this study, design variables were selected by analyzing the shapes of a diffuser designed by an advanced overseas engineering company. The characteristics of the design variables that affect the performance of the IRSS were investigated through the Taguchi experimental method. A heat flow analysis technique for IRSS systems established in previous studies was used analyze the performance of the diffuser. The performance evaluation was based on the area-averaged value of the metal surface temperature and exhaust gas temperature at the outlet of the diffuser, which are directly related to the intensity of the infrared signature. The results show that the temperature of the exhaust gas was significantly affected by changes in the diameter of the diffuser outlet, and the temperature of the diffuser's metal surface was significantly affected by changes in the number of diffuser rings.
