Development of Optical Fiber Displacement Sensor for Non-contact Vibration Measurement in the High Speed Rotation System (고속회전체의 진동 측정용 비접촉 광섬유 변위센서 개발)

  • This paper is described a development of an optical fiber displacement sensor. The optical fiber sensor using an intensity modulated measures the displacement between target and sensor. A prototype sensor is composed of a transmitting part, a receiving part and a signal processing circuit. The experiment was conducted not only the sensor performance but also factors that affect intensity. The main performance of this sensor is resolution of 0.37um and the non-linearity $0.7\%$ FS and the dynamic bandwidth of about 6.3kHz. As a result of rotation test, the prototype sensor showed an equivalent performance to a commercial eddy current sensor.

  • In order to understand dynamic characteristics of centrifugal compressor supported foil bearing, of which normal operating speed is about 20,000 ${\sim}$ 50,000 rpm, the rotor whirl is measured using gap sensors. Not only critical speeds of rotor system but also stability of rotor whirl, which are main concerns of the turbo compressor system, are measured using gap sensors by varying the rotating speed the rotor. The stiffness characteristics of bearing system is shown to be almost invariant according to speed variation by the measurement of eccentricity. In addition, from the directional power spectral density function of the measured vibration signal, the isotropy stiffness characteristics of foil bearing system is discussed.

  • This paper presents the structural characteristics analysis of a high-speed horizontal machining center with spindle speed of 50, 000rpm and feedrate of 120m/min. The spindle system is designed based on the built-in motor, angular contact ceramic ball bearings, oil-air lubrication and oil-jacket cooling method. The X-axis and Y-axis feeding systems are composed of the linear motor and linear motion guides, and the Z-axis feeding system is composed of the servo-motor, ball screw and linear motion guide. The structural analysis model of the high-speed horizontal machining center is constructed by the finite element method, and the validity of structural design is estimated based on the structural deformation of the high-speed horizontal machining center and spindle nose caused by the gravity and inertia forces.

  • In this paper, the machining characteristics of high speed ball end milling affected by the rotational error of high speed spindle using air bearing are investigated. The error motions of a spindle have generally influenced on the surface roughness, the form accuracy, the tool life, etc. in end milling. Experiments are carried out over a wide range of rotational speeds(10,000-50,000rpm). The rotational errors of the spindle are measured by the gap sensor mounted on the spindle shaft at various cutting speeds. The relations between the surface roughness and the spindle error motion are presented. Results show that the rotational accuracy of the spindle directly affects the surface roughness of the machined surface.

  • In a high speed spindle system, it is very important to monitor the operation of the spindle to prevent catastrophic damage to the system. Widely used sensors for monitoring are eddy-current and capacitive types. These sensors provide high accuracy of monitoring, but their steep prices lead to expensive high speed spindle system. The main god of our research is to develop technology to produce high speed spindle system utilizing magnetic bearings. As active magnetic bearings require position sensors for feedback control, a noncontact position sensor is bang developed as a part of this main goal. Once developed, it will contribute to affordable high speed spindle system. In this paper, we report the selection process of the sensor types and the experimental results with driving circuits.

Life and Mechanical Properties of Hot Former Die for Bearing Race using P/M High Speed Steel (분말고속도공구강을 활용한 베어링 레이스 열간 단조 금형의 수명 및 기계적 특성)

  • P/M high speed steel (1.26% C, 4.42% Cr, 6.54% W, 4.92% Mo, 3.21 % V, 8.77% Co, bal. Fe) was applied to hot former die. It showed that the die life became 2.7 times higher than that of cast/wrought SKH 55 tool steel which is commercially used. The increase of die life was corresponding to the improved hardness and transverse rupture strength of PM high speed steel due to the finer grain and carbide as well as the uniform carbide distribution. The P/M high speed steel with the promoted die life could be an alternative to the conventional SKH55.

  • 자기부유기는 전자력을 이용해서 쇠구슬을 공중에 떠있게 할 수 있는 장치이다. 본 논문에서는 자기 부유기의 기본 원리와 모델링에 관해 소개하고, 디지털 신호처리와 PWM전력변환기를 사용한 자기 부유기를 직접 제작하고 실험을 통해 성능을 검증하였다. 자기부유기의 원리는 고속회전기에 사용되는 자기베어링이나 자기부상 열차의 부상 시스템에 응용될 수 있다. 또한 전기공학 분야의 다양한 교과과정에서 습득한 지식을 활용할 수 있는 학부 프로젝트 실험 주제로 적합하다.

  • This paper contains the tension-tension and the tension-tension bearing fatigue characteristics of glass fabric/phenol composite laminates. The experimental results show that the bearing fatigue characteristics of the material is so excellent compared with the simple tension fatigue characteristics, that there are no needs of additional strengthening for mechanical joint parts when the parts are properly designed. The experimental data are also compared with the results of glass fabric/epoxy composite laminates.

  • The use of small hemispherical high-speed precision bearing has increased drastically these days in the field of computer disk driver, highteech devices as well as communication and electronic device drivers. It was suggested that the new polishing process adopting the diamond grinding wheel and polishing tool instead of multi stage lapping processes, which enables the mass production of the bearing by reduction of polishing time. Polishing mechanism was analysed and the results were applied to the design and manufacturing of the polishing system. Experiments for selection of optimal polishing conditions were carried out using the polishing system.

  • Currently under development is an airborne auxiliary power unit with 100 Kw equivalent power, which is composed of a centrifugal compressor, a reverse annular combustor, and a radial turbine. Air-foil bearings are used in this power unit to eliminate the oil supplying system, which can reduce the system complexity and weight. The high speed generator is adopted as an electric power generation and engine starting system, which can also eliminate the reduction gear system. Not only electric power but also pneumatic power is provided by bleeding the compressed air This power unit is aimed for the multi-purpose use such as a primary power unit In the army weapon system, an auxiliary power and environmental control unit in a next-generation tank, and a smoke generating unit.
