The Arrangement of Heaters for Rubber Injection Molds using FEM and Optimal Design Method (유한요소법과 최적설계 기법을 이용한 고무 사출 금형 히터 배치)

  • Temperature control of a rubber injection mold is important for the dimensional accuracy of product. The main objective of this paper is to optimize the arrangement of heaters by FEM and optimal design method. Firstly, 3-dimensional transient heat transfer analysis was carried out for a square specimen mold. Results of FE analysis are a good agreement with the experimental results, showing about 1.22~7.22% error in temperature distribution. Secondly, we suggested the optimal method about an arrangement of heaters of rubber injection mold by using the optimal design technique. Distances between heater's center and the contact surface of mold, distances between heater's center and symmetric surface were considered as design variables. And the variances between the temperatures of cavity surfaces and their average temperature were used as the objective functions. Applying the optimal solution, the temperature variation was improved about 52.9~88.1 % compared to the existing mold. As a result of sensitivity analysis for design variables, design variables parallel to the direction of the split plane in mold affect the largest on the surface temperature variation in mold cavity.

Characteristics of Nylon 6/Poly(acrylonitrile-co-styrene-co-acrylic rubber) Blends Containing Compatibilizer (상용화제가 포함된 나일론 6/Poly(acrylonitrile-co-styrene-co-acrylic rubber) 블렌드의 특성)

  • To overcome drawbacks of the nylon 6/poly (acrylonitrile-co-butadiene-co-styrene) (ABS) blend, nylon 6 blend with poly (acrylonitrile - co-styrene - co-acrylic rubber) (ASA) which containing poly (butyl acrylate) as a rubber phase in substitute of poly (butadiene) in ABS, was examined. Poly (styrene-co-maleic anhydride) (SMA) containing 25 wt% of maleic anhydride (MA) or poly (styrene- co-acrylo-nitrile-co-maleic anhydride) (SANMA) containing less than 3 wt% MA was used as a compatibilizer to fabricate blends having high impact strength. Changes in the mechanical properties of nylon 6/ASA blend with compatibilizer content were similar with those of nylon 6/ABS blend. Blends haying high impact strength was produced when blends contained more than about 20 wt% rubber. Blends containing SAM or SANMA as a compatibilizer were stayed in a injection molding machine at the molding temperature and afterwards specimens for the examination of the impact strength was prepared. Impact strength of blends containing SMA was decreased with retention time, while that of blends containing SANMA was not changed with retention time.

  • There exist many merits in designing products and setting operational condition when computer aided engineering (CAE) is adopted in injection molding process. CAE also gives increasing efficient of molding, reducing developing time of product, and maintaining high quality products. Specially, it suggests design guidelines for new products and reducing wasting time to get steady state. Two and three dimensional computer simulations are available in injection molding and those results are somewhat different. However there are no guidelines for 2D and 3D computer simulations in using CAE in injection molding even though it is widely used in plastic industry. In this study, two and three dimensional computation results were compared for various part thickness, part shape, and number of finite element. Subsequently computational results were compared with experimental data such as pressure and temperature. The guidelines in two and three dimensional CAE analysis have been suggested through this study.

  • The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has long been studying the essential elements of manned planetary exploration and has held several international challenges to encourage the research works related to it. One of them was the NASA Centennial Challenge Programs which started in 2015. Following the second in 2017, the third is currently going on in 2019. Participating "3D-Printed Habitat Challenge", one of the challenges in the second program, this research team designed and developed the 3D printer extruding module for the Lunar Simulant (Korea Hanyang Lunar Simulant-1; KOHLS-1) and the polymer. For optimizing the modul, a cylindrical specimen of ${\varnothing}150{\times}300mm^3$ volume and a specimen of $200{\times}100{\times}650mm^3$ volume were manufactured and their compressive and flexural strengths were tested. The findings can help automatize the space construction in the future.

  • Automotive waterproof connectors are highly functional parts that must be air-tight in a complex environment. In the LSR multi-cavity injection molding process for manufacturing waterproof connectors, it is important to maintain a uniform curing temperature between the cavities in order to obtain a quality product. For this purpose, we designed the capacity of the cartridge heater differently for each position, and then linked the heat transfer analysis and optimization module to obtain the optimal cartridge heater capacity. As a result of the optimization analysis, the temperature deviation between cavities was decreased from $13.1^{\circ}C$ to $8.1^{\circ}C$ compared with the case in which constant heater capacity was applied, so that the design criterion could be satisfied within a temperature deviation of $10^{\circ}C$ for uniform curing. This study suggests that this method can be applied efficiently to the design of a large area multi-cavity LSR mold heater.

  • 티오디에탄올을 기본(基本)으로 하는 신합성(新合成)고무의 사용온도범위(使用溫度範圍)는 $-65^{\circ}C$에서 $150^{\circ}C$이며 표준연료(標準燃料) C와 gasohol을 포함(包含)한 각종(各種) 자동차용(自動車用) 오일에 대하여 우수(優秀)한 내유성(耐油性)을 보였고, 이 외(外)에 자연(自然)에서 널리 발생(發生)되는 황화수소(黃化水素)가스에 대(對)하여서도 우수(優秀)한 내(耐)가스성(性)을 보였다. 이 TDE 탄성체(彈性體)의 배합(配合)은 종래(從來)의 2본(本) 로울러 또는 밀폐식(密閉式) 혼합기(混合機)로 혼연(混練)할 수 있으며, compression, 사출(射出), 프레스 등으로 가황(加黃) 또는 유출(押出)이 가능하다. Development trend of composite insulator for distribution and transmission lines (송배전용 composite insulator개발 동향)

  • 기존의 초고압 옥외절연물은 세라믹을 소재로한 porcelain이었지만 최근 신소재기술의 발달로 내열성, 내후성, 내트래킹성 등이 우수한 고분자 재료들이 개발됨에 따라 구미 선진국을 중심으로 이들의 전기절연물분야 적용이 크게 증가하고 있다. 인발(pultrusion)공법으로 glass fiber와 수지를 결합시켜 고강도 무결점의 FRP절연봉이나 tube를 만들 수가 있다. 절연물에서 요구되는 구조재로서의 기계적 특성은 FRP복합재료가 충족시킬 수 있는데 이러한 봉을 core재로 하여 절연물의 표면전기특성을 만족하도록 고무로 된 shed를 씌우고 양쪽 끝에 금구류를 부착하여 composite insulator를 만들 수가 있다. composite insulator는 여러개의 shed를 한번에 진공사출하거나 shed를 금형에서 찍어 조립하여 제작할 수가 있는데 지금까지 검토되어 온 어떤 고분자 절연물보다 특성이 우수하고 장점이 많기 때문에 상업적 가치를 인정받고 있다. 본 고에서는 옥외용 절연물의 절연성능과 섬락사고기구를 요약하고 고분자신소재 절연물인 composite insulator의 장점, 국내외 개발현황, 평가방법등을 정리하였다.

  • Rubber o-rings are produced by conventional injection molding methods. In this case, products that are not normally molded are determined to be defective. However, if images acquired during image-based reading are read as original, there is a problem of poor accuracy. We have thus learned from convolutional neural networks using adaptive binarization and Convex Hull algorithms by extracting only rubber oring parts from the original images through pre-processing. During the test process, it was confirmed that the defect detection performance of the learning method applied pre-processing was better than the standard suggested.

A Study on the Warpage in Injection Molded Part for Various Part Designs and Non Reinforced Resins (비 보강 수지의 종류와 사출성형품의 설계에 따른 휨의 연구)

  • Most of the plastics products are being manufactured by injection molding. Warpage in injection molded affects the product dimension and it causes assembling problem. In this study, warpages in the injection molded part been studied. Specimens are rectangular flat shapes with and without ribs. Amorphous polymers (PC and ABS) and crystalline polymers (PP and PA66) were used for material. Flat shape with ribs showed higher warpage than flat shape without ribs by 6 to 9%. The specimens with ribs that are located parallel to the flow direction has higher warpage than specimens with ribs that are located perpendicular to the flow direction by 25 to 39%. Crystalline polymers have higher warpage than amorphous polymers by 23 to 67%. Warpage decreases as packing time increases and it increases as injection temperature increases.
