  • In this paper, we propose a real time post-processing visual enhancement technique to reduce the blocking artifacts in block based DCT decoded image for mobile devices that have allocation of the restricted resource. In order to reduce the blocking artifacts effectively even while preserving the image edge to the utmost, the proposed algorithm uses the deblocking filtering or the directional filtering according to the edge detection of the each pixel. After it is discriminated that the pixel to apply the deblocking filtering belongs again to the monotonous area, the weighted average filter with the adaptive mask is applied for the pixel to remove the blocking artifacts. On the other hand, a new directional filter is utilized to get rid of staircase noise and preserve the original edge component. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm produces better results than those of the conventional algorithms in both subjective and objective qualities.

  • Normal-phase HPLC was used to separate the useful phospholipids, PE, PI and PC in soybean lecithin. The mobile phase used in this experiments were haxane, isopropanol and methanol, the gradient mode was applied as the three components could not be separated by the isocratic mode. To find the optimum separation condition, the concentration profiles of effluents were calculated from the plate theory and the capacity factor in step-gradient mode. From the calculated results, PE was separated with hexane/isopropanol/methanol = 90/5/5vol.% in isocratic mode and PI and PC were resolved in the conditions of 10min gradient time and the second mobile phase of hexane/isopropanol/methanol=50/20/30vol.% in step-gradient mode. The agreement between the calculated concentration profile and experimental data was good, so the methodology developed in this work can be used to obtain the optimum separation condition in gradient mode.

  • In binary digital transmission system the band-limiting is required for the better transmission efficiency. But in the case of band-limiting the intersymbol-interference (ISI) usually takes place. In this paper, in an attempt to design band-limiting filter which has minimum ISI and maximum stop-band loss, first, making use of analog filter by combining Binary Transversal Filter (BTF) and analog filter (4th Butterworhfilter), we found the value that minimizes ISI phenomenon by getting step response of rectangular pulse resulting from BTF in time domain. Second, we found filter characteristic we want to in frequency domain for band-limiting and minimized the error. And then we obtained resistor value (Tap coefficient) in order to design algorithm for optimum filter. Also we showed the example of simulation in case we established the resistors with 3,5 and 7 respectively. With 7 resistors set, we identified that the ripple of about minus 30dB was taken place.

  • Estimation of the point spread function (PSF) is one of the main research topic of image processing, because it determines the performance of the auto-focusing system. In this paper, a new algorithm for PSF estimation is proposed, and its application to image restoration is also presented. The procedure for complete realization of the auto-focusing system consists of two steps: PSF estimation based on edge classification, and image restoration using the estimated PSF. More specifically, we divide imput image into multiple small image or block, estimate unit step response and average them on the blocks which contain edge, and estimate 2-dimensional isotropic PSF from the 1 dimensional step response. Finally we obtain in-focused image by using image restoration based on the estimated PSF.

  • Coastal structures, constructed for preventing coastal slope erosion, often causes the scour on the boundary between the coastal structure and the sea-bed, which might lead to collapse of coastal structures. To prevent the collapse, the usual upright block type coastal structures can be modified to other forms or systems of coastal structures. To validate the performance of the proposed systems, it is necessary to conduct high cost hydraulic experiments. If numerical modeling can be performed prior to the hydraulic experiments and the performance of the proposed systems is analyzed numerically in advance, the expenses can be reduced significantly by optimizing the number of cases for conducting the experiments. In this study, a fluid-structure interaction analysis procedure is proposed for modeling the hydraulic experiments of costal structures using the finite element package, LS-DYNA. As can be found in the usual hydraulic experiments, fluid velocities of potential scour locations are monitored and analyzed in detail for four types of coastal structures, block, step, trapezoid and rubble mound.

  • LIDAR data, as the source of the 3D information of buildings, are used many modeling fields such as three-dimensional city models in urban planning and the visibility analysis of buildings. This study suggests a methodology, that is characterized by combining image-based and point-based process, for minimizing the user's intervention and automatically extracting building boundary only using the LIDAR data. Image processing methodology is firstly used to separate building and non-building regions from LIDAR data. Moreover, building regions are then classified main roof into remaining parts by the statistical analysis of height values, and the remaining parts are processed separately. Through the experimental results of study areas which exist many types of buildings, for example, apartment-type, stair-type, complex-type, etc. Approximately 90% building boundaries are automatically extracted by the proposed methodology.

  • In this paper, we try to improve the accuracy of automatic measurement for analysis equipment by detecting efficiently the edge of a waterdrop with transparency. In order to detect the edge of a waterdrop with transparency, we use an edge detecting technique, MADD (Modified Adaptive Directional Derivative), which can identify the ramp edges with various widths as the perfectly sharp edges and respond effectively regardless of enlarging or reducing the image. The proposed edge detecting technique by means of perfect sharpening of ramp edges employs the modified adaptive directional derivatives instead of the usual local differential operators in order to detect the edges of image. The modified adaptive directional derivatives are defined by introducing the perfect sharpening map into the adaptive directional derivatives. Finally we apply the proposed method to contact angle arithmetic and show the effiency and validity of the proposed method.

  • The purpose of this study is to reveal the process of forming a community in the school and to present the basic data necessary for the establishment of a social sustainable environment and space for future school space. In addition to a new awareness of time, it was carried out to help students understand the community forming space in the school. The purpose of this study was to investigate the formation process and characteristics of resting time community in the school. As a result of the analysis on the formation of community space in the school, there were many opinions that community space for social communication and interaction promotion in school is all without difference by gender and grade, and as a space which is considered to be most suitable as community space. A hallway alcove space, a small space adjacent to the classroom, and a multipurpose staircase. In addition, students wanted to make the communication activities such as meeting, communication, relaxation, and social exchange into the hall and corridor space in the corridor as the most desirable community space.

  • Static deformation theory of elastoplastic structures can be applied only if the magnitude of loading is less than the plastic collapse force $F_c$. However, with impact or explosive blast loading, the structure can be subjected to an intense but short-duration force pulse that exceeds the plastic collapse force and initiates structural collapse. In this paper, the dynamic response of a rigid-perfectly plastic cantilever subject to intense impact loading is examined in terms of the plastic collapse force. When a step loading is applied, the motion of the beam is calculated and analyzed through the non-dimensionalization of variables. It is concluded that the motion of a beam can be characterized as a function of the nondimensionalized force parameter, $f{\equiv}F/F_c$, where $F_c$ represents the critical force for plastic collapse. This result is used to the analysis of the beam motion subject to rectangular force pulse.

  • Numerous losses of decay heat removal capability have occurred at U during stutodwn while its significance to safety is needless to say. A study is carried out as an attempt to assess what could be done to lower the frequency of these events and to mitigate their consequences in the unlikely event that one occurs. The shutdown risk model is developed and analyzed using Event/Fault Tree for the typical pressurized water reactor. The human cognitive reliability (HCR) model, two-stage bayesian approach and staircase function model are used to estimate human reliability, initiating event frequency and offsite power non-recovery probability given loss of offsite power, respectively. The results of this study indicate that the risk of a Pm at shutdown is not much lower than the risk when the plant is operating. By examining the dominant accident sequences obtained, several design deficiencies are identified and it is found that some proposed changes lead to significant reduction in core damage frequency due to loss of cooling events.
