Organizing Mechanisms and Technological Innovation in Diversified Corporations : A Perspective of Knowledge-based Theory of the Firm (다각화된 기업의 기술혁신과 조직화 방식 : 지식기반이론 관점을 중심으로)

  • This paper presents a knowledge-based view of the multi-business firm. The multi-business firm has advantages in technological innovation and knowledge creation to the extent that it embodies various ideas and resources, and recombines them more effectively and efficiently than market contracts. The purpose of this paper is to identify how to organize the multidivisional form (M-form) structure to realize such advantages. We first differentiate within-division innovation and cross-division innovation, and explain why cross-division innovation, despite its higher performance potential, would be more difficult to achieve, compared to within-division innovation. Then, we offer the propositions about how to promote cross-division innovation with references to resource capability and coordination capability that is, in turn, composed of structural and control system, social capital, and human resource management system. We conclude by discussing theoretical and practical implications.

A Study on Determinants of Category Diversification of Internet Portals in Korea (인터넷포털의 카테고리 다각화 결정변수에 대한 연구)

  • The study suggests an answer to the question of what determines category diversification of Internet portals in Korea. First, as external factors, competition intensity and market growth are hypothesized to have influence on the degree of category diversification. Second, an internal factor, user loyalty to portals, is hypothesized to influence negatively category diversification. The study performed empirical analysis based on weekly portal-specific panel data of eighteen internet portals in Korea during the period between 2001 and 2004. The result shows that category diversification increases as competition intensity increases, and that category diversification decreases as user loyalty increases. There was no effect of market-level growth rate on category diversification.

  • The EU holds about 50% of exports and imports in the world trade of services. The insurance markets have undergone a significant consolidation in solvency rule, cross-border registration, and standardized accounts. In the EU-Korea FTA negotiations the EU is interested in mutual certification of qualifications as well as market liberalization of law, finance and distribution and so forth. When the negotiation with respect to the mutual certification of qualifications comes to a settlement, the two countries will drive it in service areas. Korea should examine european certification regulations and improve domestic insurance-related institutions. France is the focal country of the EU. The paper provides a comparative study of insurance markets and agents in France and Korea. The paper argues that Korea should initiate institutional changes and be transformed into an insurance service exporting country for the specialized insurance agents to move to EU countries.

우리나라 재벌기업의 소유구조 결정요인

  • 우리나라 재벌기업은 소유집중에 의한 소유경영과 비관련사업다각화를 경영의 특징으로 하고 있으며 정부는 경제력집중의 완화와 재벌기업의 경쟁력 제고를 위하여 공정거래법 등을 통하여 소유분산과 업종전문화를 지속적으로 추진해 왔다. 본 연구는 이러한 정부의 재벌정책에 방향을 제시코자 재벌기업의 기업지배형태를 고찰하고 30대 재벌기업의 1997년 자료를 이용하여 그룹차원과 개별기업차원으로 나누어 재벌기업의 소유구조 결정요인을 실증적으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과 그룹차원에서 소유구조결정요인은 상장비중을 제외하고는 뚜렷한 요인이 식별되지 않아 그룹차원에서는 대주주가 지분관리를 하지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 개별 기업차원에서는, 먼저 대주주의 총지분은 개별기업의 특성과는 거의 무관하게 결정되는 것으로 나타났으나, 개인의 지분은 상장후 경과년수 및 기업규모와 부의 유의적인 관계를 나타내었으며 법인지분은 기업규모와는 무관하나 상장후 경과년수와는 오히려 정의 유의적인 관계를 보였다. 또한 주력기업에 대하여는 대주주가 개인지분을 높게 유지하려는 경향이 있음도 드러났다. 또한 총지분을 종속변수로 사용한 경우의 모형의 설명력이 개인지분이나 법인지분을 종속변수로 사용한 경우에 비해 현저히 낮게 나타나 향후의 소유구조 결정요인에 대한 연구에 있어서 종속변수로서 총지분을 사용하고자 하려면 면밀한 사전분석이 필요함이 시사되었다.

  • The objective of this case is to introduce KT&G's marketing strategy to go beyond its crisis. KT&G's crisis has started from tobacco which is its cash cow. Tobacco has been criticized as one of cancer causes. Until now Go and NGO suppress smoking. Its crisis is non-smoking. To live and grow beyond this crisis KT&G has 4 marketing strategies. First, they introduce new product tobacco by segmenting smoking market. Second, they want to get strong brand which has high quality, price premium, and favorable image. Third, they try to connect tobacco and bio-industry. Tobacco is very important resources of bio-industry. Finally, they is going to enter well-being market by its strength which is ginseng.

  • Recently, a lot of effort has been made to reinforce the profitability of the company through successful overseas expansion as one of the major ways to secure the competitiveness and to increase the business value these days. So, this study aims to try to analyse of the status of the overseas expansion case for the recent power industry through the case of the Korea Western Power Co., Ltd. as a measure of the management efficiency strategy of the public sector organization, and to present the policy implications about the management efficiency in the future by drawing upon the management efficiency strategy. This paper suggests alternatives as follows: First, the competitiveness should be reinforced through continuous change and innovation and the management efficiency should be developed. Second, the governance system for public-private sector should be constructed. Third, the efficient management of the global human resources is needed. Fourth, the mutual confidence-building through the active contribution to the community activities is required.

  • Leadership is one of the most widely explored subjects in the field of management. A variety of papers on leadership, however, still have insufficient aspects to reveal the theoretical logic about the CEO leadership itself. Such research, especially focused on organizational performance, tend to concentrate on the CEO's behavior rather than leadership because CEO's behavioral trait as an explanatory variable is useful to connect with firms' performance. Our purpose is to show how the characteristic of CEO leadership can be built at the organizational level. For a detail, the larger the firms' size, the greater the degree of CEO's charismatic leadership. The larger the degree of a firm's diversification, the greater the degree of the CEO's transformational leadership. And the less the degree of a firm's diversification, the greater the degree of the CEO's transactional leadership. This theoretical paper on CEO leadership suggests that the characteristics of CEO should be adaptable to the changing institutions and organizational environments.

The Effects of the Business Resources in Diversification Foodservice Corporations on Resource Sharing and Synergy: Focusing on Moderating Effects by Synergy Implementation Cost (다각화 외식기업의 경영자원과 자원공유 및 시너지와의 구조관계 연구 : 시너지실행비용에 따른 조절효과를 중심으로)

  • This study conducted an empirical analysis on the hypothesis of structural relationship that the resources of diversification foodservice corporations develop into resource sharing about creating synergy on the basis of resource based view. Based on the questionnaire answered by 237 foodservice employees over three years, this study examined its validity and reliability by using SPSS 16.0 and AMOS 5.0 for hypothesis. The result of study modelling were GFI=0.910, NFI=0.915, CFI=0.952, RMSEA=0.070 at the level of $x^2$=179.797(df=83, p<0.001). First, intangible resources 0.180(t=2.371, p<0.05), tangible resources 0.127(t=2.028, p<0.05) and human resources 0.263(t=2.542, p<0.05) of diversification foodservice corporations had positive effects on resource sharing. And resource sharing 0.264(t=3.158, p<0.001) had a positive effect on synergy. Also, between resource sharing and synergy identified moderating effects by synergy implementation cost.

  • This paper seeks to raise inflection points of battery manufacturing bases in Korea in the V4 region through the reorganization of new industrial technologies in accordance with ESG. As a result, the global supply chain market is cut off. The Russian-Ukraine war and the U.S.-China hegemony are competing in the economic crisis caused by COVID-19. It is showing diversification of new suppliers in an environment where mineral, grain procurement, gas, and even wheat imports from China and Russia are not possible. As a protective glocal, this area is used as a buffer zone(Pro-Russia, Hungary). to an isolated zone(anti-Russia, Poland) by war. In this paper, economic growth is expected to slow further due to the EU tapering period and high inflation in world countries. Due to these changes, the conversion of new tech industry and the contraction of Germany's structure due to energy supply may lose the driving force for economic growth over the past 20 years. This is caused by market disconnection(chasm) in the nominal indicators in this area. On the other hand, Korea should actively develop into the V4 area as an energy generation export (nuclear and electric hydrogen generation) area as a bypass development supply area due to the imbalance in the supply chain of rare earth materials that combines AI. By linking this industry, the energy platform can be scaled up and reliable supply technology (next generation BT, recycling technology) in diversification can be formed in countries around the world. This paper proves that in order to overcome the market chasm caused by the industries connection, new energy development and platform size can be achieved and reliable supply technology (next-generation battery and recycling technology, Low-cost LFP) can be diversified in each country.
