  • The main object of this study was to prove the effectiveness of different merging methods by using the high resolution IRS(Indian Remote Sensing Satellite)-1C panchromatic data and the multispectral Landsat TM data. The five methods used to merging the information contents of each of the satellite data were the intensity-hue-saturation(IHS), principal component analysis(PCA), high pass filter(HPF), ratio enhancement method and look-up-table(LUT) procedures. Two measures are used to evaluate the merging method. These measures include visual inspection and comparisons of the mean, standard deviation and root mean square error between merged image and original image data values of each band. The ratio enhancement method was well preserved the spectral characteristics of the data. From visual inspection, PCA method provide the best result, HPF next, ratio enhancement, IHS and LUT method the worst for the preservation of spatial resolution.

  • The protected horticulture sector was evaluated as achieving the highest level of agricultural industrialization, this study examined the structural changes in the field of Korea oriental melon farming, where cultivation under structure has advanced through its long history, with the focus on intensification and concentration of agriculture. From the 1970's, the oriental melon farming labor were replaced by capital due to the increase of dependence on input industries and the decrease in labor input, thus intensification improved the productivity. Through the development, Seongju-gun of Gyeongsangbuk-do, experienced faster growth of cultivation compared to other regions, and gained a competitive edge in productivity which led to the spatial concentration as well as the concentration of farms. In this restructuring process of oriental melon farming, spatial inequality intensified throughout the agricultural development as the existing farming spaces underwent a dynamic shift.

  • In the field of UAM, which is attracting attention as a next-generation transportation system, technology developments for using UAVs have been actively conducted in recent years. Since UAVs adopted with these technologies are mainly operated in urban areas, it is imperative that accidents are prevented. However, it is not easy to predict the abnormal flight state of an UAV causing a crash, because of its strong non-linearity. In this paper, we propose a method for predicting a flight state of an UAV, based on a CNN-LSTM hybrid model. To predict flight state variables at a specific point in the future, the proposed model combines the CNN model extracting temporal and spatial features between flight data, with the LSTM model extracting a short and long-term temporal dependence of the extracted features. Simulation results show that the proposed method has better performance than the prediction methods, which are based on the existing artificial neural network model.

  • With the growing demand for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), various collision avoidance methods have been proposed, mainly using LiDAR and stereo cameras. However, it is difficult to apply these sensors to small UAVs due to heavy weight or lack of space. The recently proposed methods use a combination of object recognition models and distance sensors, but they lack information on the obstacle size. This disadvantage makes distance determination and obstacle coordination complicated in an early-stage collision avoidance. We propose a method for estimating obstacle sizes using a monocular camera-YOLO and infrared sensor. Our experimental results confirmed that the accuracy was 86.39% within the distance of 40 cm. In addition, the proposed method was applied to a small UAV to confirm whether it was possible to avoid obstacle collisions.

  • The objective of this paper is to analyze the GIS-based water cycle system: rainfall, evapotranspiration, surface run-off of Gyeongsanam-do for the effective rainwater management. The rainfall(1999~2008) analyzed by a spatial interpolation method, showed relatively higher amount in Hadong-gun, Sanchung-gun, and Sacheon-gun on the southwest coast than in Changnyeong-gun, Miryang-si, and Changwon-si in the mideast inland. The evapotranspiration was calculated by the three independent variables: air temperature, landuse, and NDVI(normalized difference vegetation index). The analysis showed that Namhae-gun had the highest evapotranspiration of 93.71mm, and Jinhae-si and Changwon-si had the lowest values of 81.78mm and 84.37mm. The surface run-off was analysed by a run-off equation based on the SCS hydrologic soil classification and landuse. The amount of surface run-off showed that Hadong-gun had the highest value, of 90.40mm, and Geochang-gun had the lowest, of 46.69mm. The analysis results of the GIS-based water cycle system will be used to support the establishment of the effective rainwater management plan in Gyeongasngnam-do.

  • It is nearly impossible to estimate the exact state of the current rock stress of interest site by the theoretical and physical approaches except some specific geological situations. This means that in-situ stress measurement is a unique way to obtain reliable information on rock stress especially for civil and mining engineering related problems. Since late in the 90's, in-situ rock stress tests have been widely conducted to provide the quantitative information on the stress state of engineering site at the design stage of an underground rock structure in the Kyungsang Basin, Korea. The study area is the near surface regions at the depth less than 300 m in the Kyungsang Basin. It includes Yeosoo to the west and Busan to the east. Totally, 270 in-situ stress measurements were conducted in the surface test boreholes at the depth from 14 m to 300 m by hydraulic fracturing method. In this paper, based on the measurement data set, the overall characteristics of the current in-situ rock stress fields in the study area are briefly described. And also the investigation results on the difference between the stress distributions for the granitoid and the andesitic rock region are also introduced. Finally, the distributions of the regional horizontal stress directions in Busan and the Yangsan faults area are shown.

  • The natural dyes from Gardenia jasminoides, Carthamus tinctorius L., Rhus javanica, Lithospermum erythrorhizon, Caesalpinia sappan L., and Castanea crenata were extracted under different pH in distilled water, As the pH in distilled water went from acid to alkali, the much deeper colors in the same color tone were generated from the individual plant species. Before dyeing, wood species were treated by different mordants including AI, Cu, Cr and Fe for color-fixing between wood and the natural dyes. Each mordant could develop independent color on the surface of the woods. The wood species dyed by the natural dyes created deep-tone colors according to higher pH and temperature of the dyeing solution, leading to deeper penetration of the dyes into the wood tissues. Finally through the computer modelling of natural-dyed wood furniture, it was confirmed that the colored furniture can adequately be compatible with the current interior spaces of diverse colors.

  • The inventory of many materials requires a large storage space, and the longer the storage period, the higher the potential maintenance cost. When materials are stored on a construction site, there are also concerns about safety due to the reduction of room for movement and working. On the other hand, construction sites that do not store materials have insufficient inventory, making it difficult to respond to demands such as sudden design changes. Ordering materials is then subject to delays and extra costs. Although securing an appropriate amount of inventory is important, in many cases, material management on a construction site depends on the experience of the site manager, so a reasonable material inventory management plan that reflects the construction conditions of a site is required. This study proposes an economical material management method by reflecting variables such as the status of the preceding and following activities, site size, material delivery cost, timing of an order, and quantity of orders. To this end, we set the appropriate inventory amount while adjusting related activities in the activity network, using float time for each activity, the size of the yard, and the order quantity as the main variables, and applied a genetic algorithm to this process to suggest the optimal order timing and order quantity. The material delivery cost derived from the results is set as a fitness index and the efficiency of inventory management was verified through a case application.
