Measurement of 18GHz Radio Propagation Characteristics in Subway Tunnel for Train-Wayside Multimedia Transmission (지하철 터널에서의 18GHz 무선영상신호 전파특성 측정)

  • This paper presents an experimental study on the radio propagation characteristics in subway tunnel at 18GHz frequency band which has been assigned to video transmission between train and wayside. The radio propagation tests are carried out in the subway tunnel of Seoul Metro using the antenna and communication devices of the prototype video transmission system. The measurement results show that 18GHz radio propagation in subway tunnel has smaller path loss than that of general outdoor radio environment. It is also cleared that the arch-type tunnels have smaller radio propagation losses than rectangular tunnels, and single track tunnels have smaller pass loss than double track tunnels. From the measurements, the radio propagation coverage is worked out as 520 meters. The curved tunnels which cannot have LOS communication between transmitter and receiver have large pass losses and fluctuation profile along distance. The radio propagation coverage along curved tunnels is worked out as 300 meters. These investigation results can be used to design the 18GHz radio transmission system for subway tunnel by providing the optimized wayside transmitter locations and handover algorithm customized to the radio propagation characteristics in subway tunnels.

  • 이동하고자 하는 경로에 자석 마커를 설치하고 마커의 자계를 인식하여 경로를 추종하는 이동 로봇의 경로 제어시스템이다. 마커설치 간격 확장에 따른 센서 배치를 제안하였다. 마커의 극성을 서로 약속된 방법으로 코드화 하여 설치하고, 경로 추적 중에도 마커의 자계 방향을 2진 코드로 인식하여 자계 경로로부터 경로 정보를 수신할 수 있도록 하였다. 소형 이동 로봇 실험 장치를 설계 제작하고 실험을 한 결과 제작된 이동 로봇은 마커로 만들어진 이동 경로를 중앙으로부터 오차 범위 이내에서 이동함을 확인하였고, 이동 경로의 일부 구간에서는 마커의 극배치를 이용한 코드를 주행 중에 정확히 인식함을 확인하였다.

A Study on Exploring Accumulation Zone and Composition Investigation of Floating Debris in Nakdong River Basin (낙동강 유역 부유쓰레기의 집적 구간 탐색 및 성상 조사 연구)

  • The aim of this study is to find out major accumulation zones through field survey and moving route tracking trials on floating debris of Nakdong River. It also identified composition and accumulated amount of the floating debris by sample survey for accumulation zones. As a result, total 5 accumulation zones were selected from the midstream and downstream of the Nakdong River. There was a large amount of floating debris, including vegetation debris, in the accumulation zones. And two accumulation zones located in the downstream region, it is much more likely to flow into the ocean along river. From the sample survey on the major accumulation zones, more than $40{\ell}$ of floating debris were collected including vegetation and artificial debris. As a result of composition analysis for artificial debris, plastic(49%) and styrofoam(36%) were the majority in number. The present study is expected to help to plan an efficient pre-collecting activity and to reduce floating debris flowing into the ocean from the Nakdong River.

Numerical Analysis of Flow and Bed Changes for Selecting Optimized Section of Buried Water Pipeline Crossing the River (하천을 횡단하는 도수관로의 최적 매설구간 선정을 위한 흐름 및 하상변동 수치모의)

  • A water pipeline buried under the riverbed could be exposed by bed erosion, therefore safe crossing sections should be analyzed for preventing damages due to the exposure of pipelines. In this study, flow and bed changes have been simulated using a two-dimensional numerical model for selecting the optimized section of pipeline crossing in the Geum River. As a result of simulation with the 20-year recurrence flood, sediment deposition has been distributed overall in the channel and bed erosion over 2 m has occurred near bridge piers. For the extreme flood simulation, the channel bed near the bridge piers has been eroded down to the buried depth. Therefore, within 140 m upstream of the bridge piers, bed erosion affects a buried pipeline in safety due to bridge pier effects and the crossing section over 150 m upstream of bridge piers is selected as a safe zone of a water pipeline.

Measurements on the Propagation Path Loss Exponent at Maritime VHF Channel Using Single Carrier Signal (단일 반송파를 이용한 해상 VHF 채널의 전파 경로 감쇠 지수 측정)

  • The received signal strengths according to the propagation distance between a transmitting shore station with a 53 m antenna hight and a receiving ship station with about 6m antenna hight from 700 m upto about 20 km are measured at ship's moving velocity of $5{\pm}1m/s$ using a single carrier signal at 150.0625MHz. In this paper, the path loss exponents at the propagation distance from 700 m to 20km are estimated via minimum-mean-square-error method using the measurements of the received signal strength, and the mean of the estimated path loss exponent become 3.79. The estimated propagation path loss exponents is similar to that calculated based on the field-strength values from 2 km to 20 km in Annex 2 of ITU-R P.1546-4, which is measuring results at maritime VHF at 100 MHz carrier frequency. Therefore, the estimated propagation path loss exponent shall be used as the expected path loss exponents for summer in costal area of South Sea of Korea.

  • This paper proposes a dolphin whistle mimicking underwater communication method using FSK (Frequency Shift Keying) and method to improve BER (Bit Error Rate) performance by using multipath gain combining. The proposed method divides whistle sound into short time intervals and transmits FSK modulated signal that ensures orthogonality of the symbol. Multipath gain can be obtained by using characteristic of mimicked signal frequency that varies with time. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed method, computer simulations and lake experiments were conducted. Computer simulation results show that an additional multipath gain is obtained by multipath. From lake experiments, when symbol length is 20 msec and modulation band is 900 Hz, the proposed FSK method with multipath combining gain obtains BER of 0.002, which is better than CSS (Chirp Spread Spectrum) with BER of 0.185. he proposed based on FSK method has higher imitation degree than the CSS method by analyzing mean cross-correlation value in the time - frequency domain of the imitated signal and actual whistle signal.

  • 변전소 모선에서 측정되는 전압, 전류를 기반으로 하는 CB기반 고장거리 추정기법은 배전선의 다중 분기선 때문에 다중개의 고장위치를 추론하는 것은 물론 분기 부하모델의 불확실성으로 인해 거리 계산에 오차를 포함하게 된다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 유비쿼터스 기반의 배전계통 하에서 구간 측정 전압, 전류 및 IED간 정보교환을 통해 얻어지는 전압, 전류 정보를 이용하여 고장경로를 추정하는 IED 기반 고장경로 추정기법을 제안한다.

Development of Bicyclists' Route Choice Model Considering Slope Gradient (경사도 에너지 소모량을 고려한 자전거 경로 선택 모형 개발)

  • Although the government and local governments devote efforts to activate bicycles, they only access to the supply infrastructure such as bike lanes and the public bicycle rental service centers without considering the measures to overcome the geographical constraints of slope. Therefore, this study constructs bicyclist's energy consumption estimation model through experimental methods of slope gradient and heart rate measurement and suggest the bicycle route choice model which could minimize the energy by the slope gradient. After calculating the RMSE of the estimated energy consumption by applying this model to the simulation section, it is confirmed to be 41% better than the model which does not reflect slope gradient. The results of this study are expected to be applied to the bicycle infrastructure planning that considers both longitude and transverse of bike lanes and the algorithm of bicycle route guidance system in the future.

  • In this paper, an energy detection-based low power, low complexity IR-UWB receiver in multipath impulse radio channel is presented. The proposed receiver has a simple 1-bit sampler for energy detection. Also, multipath signal received from multipath impulse radio channel is amplified and envelope of the signal is detected. Then, energy detection technique using integrator by summing multipath signals in certain period is adopted to minimize the BER loss by simple energy detection. In particular, in acquisition of a sample signal, SNR is additionally improved using a digital sampler. Symbol decision using several sampled signals is performed and thus the process of symbol synchronization is significantly simplified. Also, it is effectively designed to be compatible with influences of multipath and timing error. In addition, the proposed receiver complexity is reduced using pulse decision window. The performance of the proposed receiver is simulated based on IEEE 802.15.4a channel model and the algorithms are implemented on FPGA.

  • In this paper, the performance of W-CDMA system with smart antenna is analyzed for angular spread in realistic wideband multipath channel. The realistic wideband channel is assumed, one of which is JTC channel model. And each multipath is assumed as a reflective wave from only one direction (only one cluster) in space. Several multipaths within one chip are distinguished into each one and the strongest signal is selected. As a result, the performance of the W-CDMA system with smart antenna in realistic wideband multipath channel has been considerably improved in proportion to the increase of angular spread.
