  • In this study, flexural tests of precast concrete panels according to the thickness of cross-sectional and the with or not of reinforcement were carried out in order to develop and assess of a lightweight precast concrete panel using ultra high performance concrete. For the test, four panels were fabricated, and consisted of one normal concrete panel and three ultra high performance concrete panels. As a test result, it was found that the plain precast panel using ultra high performance concrete had a lower flexural performance than the reinforced normal concrete panel, regardless of the cross-sectional size. The flexural performance of the hollow-sectional precast panel applying ultra high performance concrete, is improved by 150% compared to that of the reinforced normal concrete panel. That is, through additional performance verification and optimization of the cross-sectional design of the panel, the ultra high performance concrete precast panel can be made lighter. Also, the practical use of lightweight precast panels with ultra high performance concrete can be available through evaluation on shear, joint connection and anchoring, etc.

  • This was done by analyzing the sandwich panels that are now widely used in construction work. Sandwich panels are used for diverse purposes in construction work worldwide. In Korea, polystyrene panels that have organic materials as their core material are used. These panels are thus very vulnerable to fire, with risks of core melting, sheet deformation, and hazardous gases. Accordingly, sandwich panels' fire-resistant or non-flammable properties must be secured. To solve these problems, the optimal mixing proportion of lightweight foamed concrete for the sandwich panel core was determined. A new method of doing this was introduced that is completely different from the existing method, wherein a foaming agent is added to realize lightweight concrete. For lightweight concrete, the foaming mechanisms via diverse chemical reactions were identified, H$_2$O$_2$ was added for heating in the reaction, and the concrete foaming was maximized. Through diverse experiments to determine the optimal mixing proportion of lightweight foamed concrete and to examine the filling characteristic of lightweight foamed concrete for sandwich panel cores using waste materials, the physical and mechanical properties of lightweight foamed concrete were examined.

  • Inorganic Polymer Concrete, a type of Alkali activated cement and concrete, is known for various excellent performances, especially for better performance in the area of high temperature heat resistance(thermal characteristic) than portland cement concrete. In this study, light weight concrete panel was manufactured using this Inorganic Polymer Concrete and then evaluated for fire resistance with a small-scale heating furnace. Since the result showed excellent fire resistance, it is considered usable for manufacturing fire resistant concrete panel wall.

  • The purpose of this paper is to evaluate experimentally the compressive performance of horizontal joints for light-weight hybrid panel in-filled with light-weight foamed mortar. The parameters include the presence of light-weight foamed mortar, the specific gravity of light-weight foamed mortar (0.8, 1.2), the finishing materials (light-weight foamed mortar, Oriented Strand Board [OSB], gypsum board), and the fixed shape of the hybrid panel. As the improved details for fixed end, the peak strength and the stiffness of the light-weight hybrid panel are enhanced as follows: 1.07-2.7 times in peak load, 15-24 times in initial stiffness. The peak strength of the light-weight hybrid panel obtained by the test result is in agreement with the calculations, which is the criterion value according to the domestic code.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the possibility of weight reduction by changing the partition panel of vehicle from an existing aluminum material to carbon fiber reinforced plastics. Three weaving methods (plain, twill and satin) were used in the manufacture of composite materials, and they were produced and tested to derive their material properties. The analysis model of composite partition panel for torsional conditions was developed and the structural stability and system stiffness were evaluated according to Tsai-Hill failure criteria. With design variables for fiber orientation angles and stacking sequence, evolutional optimal algorithm was performed and as the results, the optimal composite partition panel was designed. In addition, the structural analysis results for strength and specific stiffness were compared with aluminum partition panels and composite partition panels to verify the possibility of weight reduction.

  • Over the last 10 years, the number of disasters has been increasing in Korea. As a result, the need for temporary residences or shelters for disaster conditions is increasing. In this study, post-disaster refugees housing was developed using lightweight composite panels that are lighter than the materials that make up the existing shelter. To accomplish this, the structural performance of the lightweight composite panel was validated. Among the performance tests on the panels, the transverse load test was conducted according to the ASTM E 72 criteria. As a result of the experiment, when each specimen was subjected to a uniformly distributed load, the allowable load was determined according to the span. All the experiments were ended due to a loss of adhesive at the junction of the skin and core. Further analysis was conducted to calculate the shear stress when the junction was dropped. The mean shear stress at the adhesive surface of a specimen, 150 mm and 200 mm in thickness, was 0.0170MPa and 0.0156MPa, respectively. This suggests that similar values were obtained from panels of equal thickness. In addition, this stress provides a criterion of judgment that could be used to inspect the structural performance of the panels. The performance of the panel was evaluated based on the allowable load, but it may be possible to increase the strength of the lightweight composite panel by improving the joining method to avoid separation from the junction.

  • The number of natural disasters in Korea, such as earthquakes, is increasing. As a result, there is growing need for temporary residences or shelters for disaster conditions. The aim of this study was to produce post-disaster refugees housing differentiated from existing shelters using lightweight composite panels. To accomplish this, the structural performance of lightweight composite panels was validated, and an in-plane shear strength test was conducted according to the ASTM E72 criteria among the performance test methods for panels. As a result of the experiment, the maximum load for each specimen under an in-plane shear load was determined. All the experiments ended with the tear of the panel's skin section. The initial stiffness of the specimens was consistent with that predicted by the calculations. On the other hand, local crushing and tearing, as well as the characteristics of the panel, resulted in a decrease in stiffness and final failure. Specimens with an opening showed a difference in stiffness and strength from the basic experiment. The maximum load and the effective area were found to be proportional. Through this process, the allowable shear stress of the specimens was calculated and the average allowable shear stress was determined. The average ultimate shear stress of the lightweight composite panels was found to be $0.047N/mm^2$, which provides a criterion of judgement that could be used to expect the allowable load of lightweight composite panels.

  • In order to develop composite fiber panels that can maximize the protection and blast resistance of the existing structures by improving lightweight, high-strength and fireproof performances of the single layer material of precast panels, the basic properties of the inner and outer covers that are mixed with aramid fibers (AF) and polyester fibers (PF) were evaluated in this study. Also, a basic study was performed on the performance of composite fiber panels by testing Nano-sized composite materials that are lightweight and excellent in fire resistance for their compressive strength, bending strength and tensile strength.

  • This paper summarizes the results of experimental studies concerning the flexural strengthening of reinforced concrete beams by the external bonding of the new reinforcement material, which is composite panel with an advanced fiber sheet bonded on light concrete precast panel. The structural behaviors of strengthened beams are compared with codes in terms of yield load and ultimate load, deflection, flexural stiffness, ductility. Thirty nine large-scale beams were tested experimentally to evaluate the strength enhancement provided by the composite panel. According to the results, it is shown that beams strengthened with composite panel are structurally efficient and that the strength of the strengthened beams are improved comparing with beams strengthened with fiber sheet.
