The electroacupuncture according to Voll(EAV) is a method of combining the fundamentals of classical acupuncture with the facilities of modern electronics for diagnostics and therapy. Classical acupuncture uses energy conducting lines called 'meridians' and acupuncture points situated along them. Dr. Voll is considered the founder of 'EAV' since he succeeded not only in finding a method of exact electric localization and in explaining the interelation between the acupuncture points and their individual organs, but he also succeeded in measuring the resistance of these points and in explaining the diagnostic meaning of the measured values. In the course of his research, Voll found numerous new measurement points and energy conducting vessels unknown to classical acupuncture, but indispensible for diagnosis of human organic functions. As a basis of modern research in meridian theory, I tried to compare EAV measurement point with classical acupuncture point.

Purpose: This study was aimed at developing an efficient nursing method for the management of constipation by comparing the effects of abdominal meridian massage on the symptoms of constipation. Method: The subjects were determined by the Rome II criteria and the Constipation Assessment Scale from Aug 30 through Sep 26, 2002. They were randomly divided into two groups: one experimental group of 16, another control group of 15. Abdominal meridian massage was given to the experimental group and no massage was given to the control group. The frequency of defecation and severity of constipation by CAS were measured. The data was analyzed with the t-test, $x^2$-test, and repeated measures ANOVA. Results: There was a significant improvement in frequency of defecation, and severity of constipation in the experimental group compared to the control group. Conclusion: Abdominal meridian massage can be considered an effective nursing method for the management of constipation among CVA patients.

Objectives : The aim of this study was to understand electro-physiological peculiarity in meridian and acupoints, and understand acupuncture therapy mechanism as an electro-physiological viewpoints. Methods : I reviewed the articles on the electro-physiological peculiarity of the meridian and acupoints Results and Conclusions : It has been reported that meridian and acupoints have high-electrical conductivity and row-electrical resistance. On this scientific basis, to understand the mechanism of acupuncture therapy, I made some hypotheses. At first, there is electro-property in meridian and acupoint. The second, energy flowing in meridian is related with electro-property. The third, there is electronic interaction between practitioner of acupuncture therapy and patient receiving acupuncture therapy. The forth, acupuncture effects which may be expressed by the electro-charge capacity is transfered between practitioner and patient via acupuncture. Electro-charge induced via acupuncture in practitioner may be an important factor that initiate the electro-charge changes in meridian and acupoint of patient.

경혈을 대상으로 인체를 진단하는 의료기기들은 경혈점에 미세한 직류전류를 인가하고, 이 점에서의 전기저항과 세포의 분극에 의해 반응하는 경락체계의 균형상태를 측정하여 인체를 종합적으로 진단한다. 따라서 전 과정이 정확한 경혈의 위치에서 이루어져야만 치료효과와 진단의 신뢰성이 보장된다. 그러나 대부분의 경락관련 치료기들이 정확한 혈위식별에 어려움이 있고 사용자의 전문적 숙련을 요구한다. 따라서 선행연구에서 일정한 주파수로 교호되는 자극패턴(SPAC) 방식을 사용하여 식별률을 높인 혈위식별기 DM96A-1를 개발하였다. DM96A-1은 단일전원이 양방향으로 교호되는 전류로 자극펄스를 출력하고 측정범위가 0.5∼50㎂인 전류메터와 레벨메터를 이용하여 혈위의 전류량을 표시한다. 이에 따라 방향전환 소자의 두 채널 제어신호가 교호되는 과도기에서 두 자극패턴의 중첩 도통에 의해서 누설전류가 발생하는 경우가 있으며 이를 제거하기 위하여 정밀한 조정을 필요로 하는 불편이 있었다. 따라서 이와 같은 단점들을 보완하여 신뢰성 있는 출력 파라메터를 얻을 수 있도록 마이크로프로세서 i80c196kc를 사용하여 DM96A-2를 재 설계하였으며 임상실험에 의하여 개선된 최적 파라메터의 타당성을 검증하였다.

Objectives : The aim of this study was to find the desirable way for the acupuncture treatment of breast cancer. Methods : We reviewed several literatures about breast cancer. Based on the review, we analyzed the causes of breast cancer through meridian theory of oriental medicine and looked for the desirable ways to treat it. Results and Conclusions : The breast cancer results from the unbalance between reverting yin and lesser yang. Especially, exasperation of PC(pericardium meridian) seems to paly an important role, and accordingly, it is needed to activate GB(gall bladder meridian). Also, enhancing the function of HT(heart meridian) should be considered for the acupuncture treatment of breast cancer.

Objectives : Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) balance is known to be intricately integrated with nervous system, cervical spine, and meridian system balance. This retrospective study with one-group pretest-posttest design reviewed cervical spine imaging data to provide evidence of spinal alignment improving effect of TMJ balance treatment. Methods : Cervical spine imaging data including computed tomography and simple x-ray of 25 cases with painful condition were reviewed to explore any change in cervical alignment on wearing the intraoral device for TMJ balance treatment of functional cerebrospinal therapy. Results : Cervical spine alignment significantly improved on wearing the intraoral device. Conclusions : TMJ balance treatment improves cervical spinal alignment, which may be a firm basis to proceed with further research of TMJ balance therapy as a way of balancing the whole-body meridian system.

Objectives and methods : This research aims to study about conversion system of channels. In the present study, we investigated the movement and conversion of channels on the base of three step theory(三才論), Yeak(易), Hado.Laksea(河圖洛書) and five elements motion and six kinds of factors(Six-Qi). Results and Conclusions : The organization of meridian is composed of the following three parts: hand and foot, Yin and Yang, and the viscera and bowals. It is play an important role in energy flow and its conversion. The law governing energy conversion is divided into three groups i.e. taiyin-yangming channel, shaoyin-taiyang channel and jueyin-shaoyang channel group. Those are composed of Deadea(對待) of Six-Qi, making the body homeostasis. Taken together, we suggest that the conversion system of meridian is founded on the unity between the human body and nature which provides the medical workers with a necessary method of thinking in treating diseases.

In the oriental medicine, the biological mechanism and pathogenic change have been based on the meridian. A Liver channel of those belong to the wood in the five element system, the Leg channel of the twelve primary channels, Absolute Yin(厥陰) in the three Yin channels and connect with Liver organ. Through the study on a liver channel, the results were as follows. Leg Absolute Yin is indicated for disease affecting the lower abdomen, uro-genital system, knee and thigh. Symptons associated with mind regulation system : hypochondria, a feeling of restlessness and the deficiency of Liver Yin. Symptons associated with disease of Absolute Yin.
