A study on composite precedence indices focusing on Jeju (제주지역 경기선행종합지수에 관한 연구)

  • The developed composite index has limits to estimate and predict economic status due to economic pattern change and the response change of explanatory variables. A higher precedence individual indicators should be selected to predict the future accurately. In this study, effectiveness of Jeju Island precedence indicators consists of constituents in the area, the consumer price index, services production index, mining and manufacturing production index. The average temperature of Seogwipo and credit card purchase amount is reviewed as an economic turning point consideration and time lag correlation analysis with real data. In addition, we suggest the proper reference cycle in Jeju composite precedence index and evaluate the configuration in leading indicators for Jeju by comparing national economic indicators. Based on the derived results, the current problems of Jeju Island precedence indicators will be illustrated and the improvement methods to estimate a regional composite index will be suggested.

주식시장(株式市場)의 경기선행성(景氣先行性)에 관한 연구(硏究)

  • 본(本) 연구(硏究)는 주식시장의 변화가 경기변동에 대하여 갖는 선행성(先行性)의 유무(有無)와 선행기간(先行期間) 및 선행패턴을 검정하였다. 기존의 경기 정점(peak)과 저점(trough)에 따른 선행시차분석(先行時差分析)이나 주식시장과 경기변동간의 단순회귀모형에 의한 ${\beta}$계수 측정 방법과는 달리, 교차상관관계(交叉相關關係)에 의한 선행 결합여부를 검정하고 Granger 정의에 입각한 인과관계검정(因果關係檢定)을 시도하였다. 1975년부터 1991년까지의 월별자료를 이용하여 교차상관계수(交叉相關係數)에 의한 Ljung-Box Q-통계량 검정을 실시한 결과 주식수익률과 경기동행지수 순환변동치는 선행결합(先行結合)하고 있음을 알 수 있었으며, t-7기의 주식수익률과 t기의 경기동행지수 순환변동치간의 계수가 가장 크게 나타났다. 또한 주식수익률의 lead 1에서 3기까지 보다는 lead 4기 이후에 크게 나타났으며 업종별(業種別)로는 제조업(製造業) 관련분야에서 유의적으로 나타났다. Granger 정의에 의한 인과관계(因果關係) 검정(檢定)을 실시한 결과, 12개월 내지 9개월 전부터 1개월 전까지의 주식수익률을 이용하는 것이 경기동행지수 순환변동치의 과거 정보만을 이용하는 것보다 예측오차를 줄일 수 있는 것으로 나타나 주식수익률이 경기동행지수 순환변동치의 원인변수라 할 수 있을 것이다. 업종별(業種別) Granger 검정결과는 교차상관계수(交叉相關係數)에 의한 Ljung-Box Q-통계량 검정결과와 유사하게 나타났는데 이는 검정결과의 신뢰성을 높여주었다.

Analysis of KOSPI·Apartment Prices in Seoul·HPPCI·CLI's Correlation and Precedence (종합주가지수·서울지역아파트가격·전국주택매매가격지수·경기선행지수의 상관관계와 선행성 분석)

  • Correlation of KOSPI from stock market and Apartment Prices in Seoul HPPCI from real estate market has been found from this research. Furthermore, from the comparison of those indicators' flows, certain precedence was found as well. The purpose of this research is to analyze correlation and precedence among KOSPI, Apartment price in Seoul, HPPCI and CLI. As for predicting KOSPI of stock market and real estate market, it is necessary to find out preceding indices and analyzing their progresses first. For 27 years from the January 1987 to December 2013, KOSPI has been grown by 687%, while CLI showed 443%, Apartment of Seoul showed 391%, HPPCI showed 263% of growth rate in order. As the result of correlation analysis among Apartment of Seoul, CLI, KOSPI and HPPCI, KOSPI and HPPCI showed high correlation coefficient of 0.877, and Apartment of Seoul and CLI showed that of 0.956 which is even higher. Result from the analysis, CLI shows high correlation with stock and real estate market, it is a good option to watch how CLI flows to predict stock and real estate market.

  • Forecasting of short-term employment fluctuations provides a useful tool for policy makers in risk managing the labor market. Following the process of producing the composite leading indicator for macro economy, the paper develops the employment leading indicator(ELI) for the purpose of short-term forecasting non-farm payroll employment in private sectors. ELI focuses on early detecting the point of time and the speed in phase change of employment level.

경제체감(Economic Sentiment)의 측정

  • 경기를 보다 정확하게 예측하고 대응하기 위해서는 실물경기지표뿐만 아니라 기업과 소비자의 주관적이고 심리적인 판단 즉 경제체감을 파악하여 분석할 필요가 있다. 따라서 이 연구에서는 기업경기 및 소비자 전망조사의 통계자료들을 활용하여 경제체감(Economic Sentiment) 측정을 시도하였으며, EU 접근방식을 적용하여 2003년 1월부터 2005년 3월까지 우리나라의 경제체감지수(ESI)를 작성하였다. 작성한 지수의 상관분석 결과는 경제체감지수(ESI)가 양호한 선행지표로서 기능할 수 있음을 시사하고 있다.

소비자전망지수의 유용성 검토

  • 경제적성과는 생산자, 소비자, 정부 등과 같은 경제주체들이 생산, 투자, 소비 등의 활동을 얼마나 유기적이며 효율적으로 잘 하느냐에 달려있고, 소비자전망조사는 경제주체 중 소비자의 향후 경기 및 소비에 대한 심리를 조사하고 이를 지수화하여 소비 및 경기 예측자료로 활용하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이렇게 작성된 소비자기대지수와 소비자평가지수는 서로 높은 상관관계를 가지고 움직이며, 이들의 차는 동행지수 순환변동치보다 3개월 정도 선행하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 소비자기대지수는 계절성 검토결과 계절성이 있으며, 원계열보다 계절조정계열이 움직임이 뚜렷하며, 동행지수 순환변동치와 비교결과 선행성도 더 큰 것으로 나타났다. 이외에도 소비자기대지수는 소비관련 지표인 GDP 민간소비와 가계소비지출과도 서로 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타나 정보변수로서의 유용성이 있는 것을 확인하였다.

The Lead-Lag Relationship between KRX Construction Index and Business Survey Index (KRX건설 주가지수와 기업경기실사지수 간의 선행-후행 관계)

  • This study explores the interrelationship between 'KRX Construction' and 'Business Survey Index'. KRX Construction is a leading economic indicator of construction industry, implying the potential interdependence with BSI Construction. Previous papers have investigated the relationship between the released stock price index and BSI. Using Granger causality tests, this study investigates how the BSI Construction is associated with the trend and noise-trading components of KRX Construction, respectively. The decomposition of KRX Construction of trend and noise-trading is based on the state-space model. The results document unilateral Granger causalities from released KRX Construction, trend component, noise-trading component to BSI Construction. In sum, this study demonstrates that construction company CEOs view stock price index as a leading economic indicator.

Leading, Coincident, Lagging INdicators to Analyze the Predictability of the Composite Regional Index Based on TCS Data (지역 경기종합지수 예측 가능성 검토를 위한 TCS 데이터 선행·동행·후행성 분석 연구)

  • With the worldwide spread of African swine fever, interest in livestock epidemics has increased. Livestock transport vehicles are the main cause of the spread of livestock epidemics, but there are no empirical quarantine procedures and standards related to the mobility of livestock transport vehicles in South Korea. This study extracted the trajectory of livestock-related vehicles using the facility-visit history data from the Korea Animal Health Integrated System and the DTG (Digital Tachograph) data from the Korea Transportation Safety Authority. The results are presented as exposure indices aggregating the link-time occupancy of each vehicle. As a result, 274,519 livestock-related vehicle trajectories were extracted, and the exposure values by link and zone were derived quantitatively. This study highlights the need for prior monitoring of livestock transport vehicles and the establishment of post-disaster prevention policies.

Relation Analysis Between REITs and Construction Business, Real Estate Business, and Stock Market (리츠와 건설경기, 부동산경기, 주식시장과의 관계 분석)

  • Even though REITs (Real Estate Investment Trusts) are listed on the stock market, REITs have characteristics that allow them to invest in real estate and financing for real estate development. Therefore REITs is related with stock market and construction business and real estate business. Using time-series analysis, this study analyzed REITs in relation to construction businesses, real estate businesses, and the stock market, and derived influence factor of REITs. We used the VAR (vector auto-regression) and the VECM (vector error correction model) for the time-series analysis. This study classified three steps in the analysis. First, we performed the time-series analysis between REITs and construction KOSPI(The Korea composite stock price index) and the result showed that construction KOSPI influenced REITs. Second, we analyzed the relationship between REITs and construction commencement area of the coincident construction composite index, office index and housing price index in real estate business indexes. REITs and the housing price index influence each other, although there is no causal relationship between them. Third, we analyzed the relationship between REITs and the construction permit area of the leading construction composite index. The construction permit area is influenced by REITs, although there is no causal relationship between these two indexes, REITs influenced the stock market and housing price indexes and the construction permit area of the leading composite index in construction businesses, but exerted a relatively small influence in construction starts coincident with the composite office indexes in this study.
