A Study to Evaluate the Impact of In-Vehicle Warning Information on Driving Behavior Using C-ITS Based PVD (C-ITS 기반 PVD를 활용한 차량 내 경고정보의 운전자 주행행태 영향 분석)

  • A road system with CV(Connected Vehicle)s, which is often referred to as a cooperative intelligent transportation system (C-ITS), provides various road information to drivers using an in-vehicle warning system. Road environments with CVs induce drivers to reduce their speed or change lanes to avoid potential risks downstream. Such avoidance maneuvers can be considered to improve driving behaviors from a traffic safety point of view. Thus, empirically evaluating how a given in-vehicle warning information affects driving behaviors, and monitoring of the correlation between them are essential tasks for traffic operators. To quantitatively evaluate the effect of in-vehicle warning information, this study develops a method to calculate compliance rate of drivers where two groups of speed profile before and after road information is provided are compared. In addition, conventional indexes (e.g., jerk and acceleration noise) to measure comfort of passengers are examined. Empirical tests are conducted by using PVD (Probe Vehicle Data) and DTG (Digital Tacho Graph) data to verify the individual effects of warning information based on C-ITS constructed in Seoul metropolitan area in South Korea. The results in this study shows that drivers tend to decelerate their speed as a response to the in-vehicle warning information. Meanwhile, the in-vehicle warning information helps drivers to improve the safety and comport of passengers.

The Design and Implementation of the Collision Avoidance Warning Function in the Air Traffic Control System (항공관제 시스템에서 항공기 공중충돌 경고기능의 설계 및 구현)

  • An aircraft collision accident is a disaster that causes great losses of inventories and lives. Though a collision avoidance warning function is provided automatically to pilots in the aircrafts by the enhancement of the aircraft capability, achieving fast decision-making to escape a collision situation is a complex and dangerous work for pilots. If an in-flight collision situation is controlled by the air traffic control system which monitors all airplanes in the air, it would be more efficient to prevent in-flight collisions because it can handle the emergency before the pilot's action. In this paper, we develop the collision avoidance warning function in the air traffic control system. Specifically, we design and implement the five stages of the collision avoidance function, and propose a visualization method which could effectively provide the operators with the trajectories and altitudes of the aircrafts in a collision situation. By developing an in-flight collision warning function in the air traffic control system that visualizes flight patterns through the state transition data of in-flight aircrafts on the flight path lines, it can effectively prevent in-flight collisions with traffic alerts. The developed function allows operators to effectively select and control the aircraft in a collision situation by providing the operators with the expected collision time, the relative distance, and the relative altitude while assessing the level of alert, and visualizing the alert information which includes the Attention-Warning-Alert phase via embodying the TCAS standard. With the developed function the air traffic control system could sense an in-flight collision situation before the pilot's decision-making moment.

  • Two perspectives on developing better decision capabilities for a warranty system can be identified: one involving the inclusion of a 'learning' module and the other the inclusion of a 'prioritization' capability. This paper demonstrates how a warning process can be included in a warranty system by coupling with a neural network's learning capabilities. In addition to the neural network, a method is employed for assigning priorities to warning criteria by using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP). Thus, it is possible to construct an integrated system with three components: the warranty system, the AHP module, and the neural network system. A case study is provided to enhance the accuracy of warning/detection judgment in a warranty system for automobile companies, having many factors related to the warranty system.

  • There is a need for a system that provides early warning of presence and type of failure of automobile wheel bearings through the application of predictive fault analysis technologies. In this paper, we presented a sensor module mounted on a wheel bearing and a diagnostic system that collects, stores and analyzes vehicle acceleration information and vibration information from the sensor module. The developed sensor module and predictive analysis system was tested and evaluated thorough excitation test equipment and real automotive vehicle to prove the effectiveness.

  • In this paper. we propose the real-time vision system which judges drowsiness driving based on levels of drivers' fatigue. The proposed system is to prevent traffic accidents by warning the drowsiness and carelessness using face-image analysis and fuzzy logic algorithm. We find the face position and eye areas by using fuzzy skin filter and virtual face model in order to develop the real-time face detection algorithm, and we measure the eye blinking frequency and eye closure duration by using their informations. And then we propose the method for estimating the levels of drivel's fatigue based on measured data by using the fuzzy logic and for deciding whether drowsiness driving is or not. Finally, we show the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method through some experiments.

  • 자동차 산업이 발전하면서 안정적인 주행과 운전자의 편의성을 위한 지능형운전자보조시스템인 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System)가 이슈가 되고 있다. 차선인식의 결과에 따라 차선이탈 경고시스템의 성능이 달라지기 때문에 차선인식은 ADAS에서 매우 중요한 핵심적인 기술이라 할 수 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 그림자 영역과 같이 밝기의 분포가 균일하지 않는 환경에서 강인하게 동작하는 차선인식 알고리즘을 제안하였다, 지역적인 밝기 특징을 고려하여 차선에 해당하는 특징점을 추출하며, 추출된 특징점 가운데 이상치(outlier)를 제거하기 위해 RANSAC (RANdom SAmple Consensus) 알고리즘을 이용하여 차선을 검출한다. 또한 RANSAC 알고리즘에서 신뢰도가 높은 차선이 검출되면 그 주위에 특징점을 추출하기 위한 관심영역을 설정함으로써 안정적인 차선 검출이 가능하도록 하였다.

  • 최근 자동차 관련 연구 분야 중 안전사고 예방에 대한 관심이 높아짐에 따라 안전지능형 기술들의 연구가 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 졸음운전과 같이 운전자의 의지와 상관없는 무의식적인 차선 이탈은 중앙선 침범으로 이어져 대형 사고를 유발할 가능성이 크다. 이와 같은 요인들은 의식적인 상황에서의 차량의 통제를 방해하고 결국 예기치 않은 차선 이탈로 연결될 수 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 차선 이탈 여부를 미리 판단하여 주행차선을 이탈하기 전에 운전자게에 알려줌으로써 운전자의 안전을 향상 시켜주며 자동차 안전사고 예방기술에 관련하여 차선검출과 차선이탈경고시스템 알고리즘을 설계하였다.

  • This paper proposes a novel design of enhanced auto light control system using PLC(Power Line Communication) and SMS(Short Message Service) to copy with emergent cases effectively. In the proposed system, the indoor sensing system is designed to send emergent messages to the users or system manager in case of fire or invasion, which may prevent secondary accident. In addition, data transmission using PLC may drastically decreases the number of lines. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed system.
