Studies on the control of stem blight of asparagus caused by Phoma asparagi Sacc (아스파라가스 줄기마름병(경고병)의 방제에 관한 연구)

  • Experiments were carried out to study on control of stem blight of asparagas caused by Shoma asparagi Sacc. in Suweon, $1976\~1978$. Symptoms of the disease were found in the field from late of May and severe infection was shown thereafter. Plastic film mulching with foliage spray of Topsin 154g a.i. and Difolatan 220g a.i. per 10a at 10days interval during the growing season, gave significantly good control and high yield compared with other treatments. In addition to reduction of the disease, the treatment with mulching has maintained good soil moisture for asparagus growth when the soil moisture was measured at about loom under the soil surface from July to August.

Comparison of Growth Characteristics by Varieties and Effects of Rain Shelter and Mulching on the Production of Asparagus (Asparagus officinalis L.) (아스파라거스이 품종간 생육특성 비교와 비가림, 멀칭에 의한 생산성 향상 효과)

  • Asparagus varieties popular in the foreign countries were collected and tested on their productivities and qualities for five years under rain shelter and open field conditions. Among the tested varieties, cultivars of UC309 and Excel showed superior productivity to the others in spear weight but the initial growth was not different among the tested varieties. However, the growth index was higher than the other varieties. According to the result from eight-year experiment, the best variety in productivity and quality were UC309 and Excel both for rain shelter and open field cultivations. To avoid the damage caused by stem blight, rain shelter and soil surface mulching treatments were tested with var. Excel. The spear sprouting and first harvesting date were a few days earlier in rain shelter cultivation than in open field, but there were no differences among the mulching materials. The number of spears and the spear weight per plant were increased in rain shelter cultivation, especially with rice straw and black P.E. mulching treatments. Marketable yield also increased by 253% in black P.E film mulching in rain shelter cultivation compared to non-mulching in open field. The stem blight examined in the autumn, 1997 was not observed under rain shelter treatment, but severe damage was observed in the open field regardless of the mulching materials. In the experiments, high asparagus yield could be achieved by black P.E. film mulching in rain shelter cultivation without the occurrence of stem blight.

A Forecast Model for Estimating the Infection Risk of Bacterial Canker on Kiwifruit Leaves in Korea (참다래 잎에서의 궤양병 감염 위험도 모형)

  • A forecast model for estimating the infection risk of bacterial canker caused by Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae on kiwifruit leaves in Korea was developed using the generic infection model of Magarey et al. (2005). Two-way contingency table analysis was carried out to evaluate accuracy of forecast models including the model developed in this study for estimating the infection of bacterial canker on kiwifruit using the weather and disease data collected from three kiwifruit orchards at Seogwipo in 2015. All the tested models had more than 80% of probability of detection indicating that all the tested models could be effective to manage the disease. The model developed in this study showed the highest values in proportion of correct (51.1%), probability of detection (90.9%), and critical success index (47.6%). It indicated that the model developed in this study would be the best model for estimating the infection of bacterial wilt on kiwifruit leaves in Korea. The model developed in this study could be used for a part of decision support system for managing bacterial wilt on kiwifruit leaves and help growers to reduce the loss caused by the disease in Korea.

  • 지난해 우리나라에서 열린 담배규제기본협약(FCTC) 당사국 총회에서, '한국은 아직까지 금연 후진국이며 금연정책을 더 강화해야 한다'는 목소리가 높았다. 일례로, 이미 전 세계 270개국이 담뱃갑에 섬뜩한 경고사진을 부착한데 반해 우리나라는 지난해 9월에야 관련 법안을 입법예고했다. 금연 선진국으로 가는 길은 아직 먼 것일까.

사육제한으로 '멍드는 오리농가' AI 대책, 개선이 필요하다

  • 지난 11월 2일 전북 부안군 소재 육용오리 농장에서 출하전 검사 중 H5 항원이 검출됐다. 방역대 내 전업농이 23호로 오리 126만4,000마리가 사육되고 있어 오리업계 전체가 긴장을 했었다. 언론에서는 럼피스킨병과 구제역, 아프리카돼지열병, 고병원성 조류인플루엔자(AI)등 가축감염병 4개가 한해동안 모두 창궐하는 사상 초유의 '가축감염병 쿼드러플' 악재를 우려하며 연일 경고의 기사를 쏟아내고 있다. AI 발병에 대한 위험도가 높아지고 있는 가운데 농림축산식품부가 평창 동계올림픽을 앞두고 AI 예방차원에서 시작한 오리농가 사육제한이 올해로 7년째에 접어들었다. 게다가 올해 10월부터는 농식품부가 AI 위험지역 내 오리농가를 대상으로 농식품부장관이 지자체장에게 사육 제한을 지시하는 것을 내용으로 하는 가축전염병 예방법 시행령을 개정해 시행 중에 있다. 사육제한으로 오리업계는 고질적인 수급 불안과 오리고기 가격 폭등으로 산업적 발전이 저해당하고 있는 상황이다. 오리사육제한 시행 7년, 과연 AI 예방에는 오리 사육제한만이 방법일까. 오리사육제한에 대한 명암을 살펴보고 AI예방을 위한 보다 근본적인 방안을 고민해 본다.

Comparative Analysis of News Big Data related to SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV, and SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19)

  • This paper intends to draw implications for preparing for Post-Corona in the health field and policy fields as the global pandemic is experienced due to COVID-19. The purpose of this study is to analyze the news and trends of media companies through temporal analysis of the three infectious diseases, SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV, and SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), in which the domestic infectious disease preventive system was active throughout the first year of the outbreak. To this end, by using the news analysis program of the Korea Press Foundation 'Big Kinds', the number of news articles per year was digitized based on the period when each infectious disease had an impact on Korea, and major trends were implemented and analyzed in a word cloud. As a result of the analysis, the number of articles related to infectious diseases peaked when the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a warning and (suspicious) confirmed cases occurred. According to keyword and word cloud analysis, 'infectious disease outbreak and major epidemic areas', 'prevention authorities', and 'disease information and confirmed patient information' were found to be the main common features, and differences were derived from the three infectious diseases. In addition, the current status of the infodemic was identified by performing word cloud analysis on information in uncertainty. The results of this study are significant in that they were able to derive the roles of the health authorities and the media that should be preceded in the event of a new disease epidemic through previously experienced infectious diseases, and areas to be rearranged.

Investigation on the Management Status of Pear and Apple Orchards Where Fire Blight Disease Was Partially Controlled in Korea (국내 과수화상병을 부분 방제한 배와 사과 과원의 관리 현황 조사)

  • Recently, the domestic plant disease control policy for fire blight has been implemented partial control in addition to burial control. In this study, an on-site management survey was conducted targeting orchards that implemented partial disease control from 2019 to 2020 in order to find efficient implementation methods for partial disease control. As a result of an investigation into 22 pear and apple orchards in Cheonan and Chungju, 7 orchards were buried. The upper part of the cut infected plants was burned at 16 orchards and covered with plastic vinyl after lime treatment at 6 orchards. The lower stumps of cut infected plants were burned at 7 orchards and covered with plastic vinyl after lime treatment at 15 orchards. There were two orchards where suckers appeared on the stumps even though covers were applied. There was no infection by Erwinia amylovora in the suckers. The conservation condition of lime treatment was good, but warning signs were absent at 6 orchards. Most orchards treated the stumps and surrounding areas with glyphosate-isopropylamine herbicide. The effect of partial control was judged to be safe.
