  • The frame elements of modern high speed trains are typically fabricated with extruded aluminum panels. However, the sound transmission loss (STL) of extruded aluminum panels is less satisfactory than flat panels with the same surface density. This study proposes a method for prediction of the sound transmission loss of extruded aluminum panels using finite element analysis. The panel is modeled by finite element analysis, and the STL is calculated using a measure of Sommerfeld radiation at the specimen surface, boundary conditions, and the internal loss factor of the material. In order to verify the validity of the predicted value, intensity transmission loss was measured on the aluminum specimen according to ASTM E2249-02. The proposed method of analysis will be utilized to predict the sound insulation performance of extruded aluminum panels for railway vehicles in the design stage, and to establish measures for their improvement.

  • In this paper, the characteristics of the ray tracing method (RTM) based on the cylindrical wave are discussed for the high frequency vibration analysis of two-dimensional structures. A ray tube describing the emanating cylindrical wave is used to derive the governing equation for incident reflected, and transmitted ray tubes which satisfies the condition at the coupled boundary. The suggested ray model is applied to panel array structures, and the predicted results for 2-panel, 3-panel, and 4-panel array structures are compared to those by Statistical energy analysis (SEA) and Wave intensity analysis(WIA). More enhanced prediction was obtained compared to the SEA, and similar prediction performance was observed to the WIA. Additionally, the RTM has a novel feature that it can estimate the spatially smoothed distribution of vibration energy and vibration intensity. It is expected that the present RTM can be used as one of the useful tools for the high frequency vibration analysis of two-dimensional coupled structures.

  • In this paper, a new unsupervised image segmentation algorithm is proposed. To model the contextual information presented in images, the characteristics of the Markov random fields (MRF) are utilized. Textured images are modeled as realizations of the stationary Gaussian MRF on a two-dimensional square lattice using the conditional autoregressive (CAR) equations with a second-order noncausal neighborhood. To detect boundaries, hypothesis tests over two masked areas are performed. Under the hypothesis, masked areas are assumed to belong to the same class of textures and CAR equation parameters are estimated in a minimum-mean-square-error (MMSE) sense. If the hypothesis is rejected, a measure of dissimilarity between two areas is accumulated on the rejected area. This approach produces potential edge maps. Using these maps, boundary detection can be performed, which resulting no micro edges. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated by some experiments using real images as weB as synthetic ones. The experiments demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can produce satisfactorY segmentation without any a priori information.

  • In this paper, we proposed a b1ocking artifact reduction algorithm using similarity and linear combination between blocks. In the proposed method, all of the blocks are classified into low frequency block and high frequency block according to the their DCT coefficients. And we defined range block which shows blocking artifacts, as block centered to block boundary and defied domain block as similar block with range block within search range. In the search procedure, we used sub-block's property of range block and similarity for more accurate searching. Finally blocking artifact reduction algorithm is performed using linear combination between searched domain block and blocky range block. The performance of the proposed method is investigated by computer simulation in comparison with the traditional methods. In the experimental results, Ire confirmed the better performance in the subjective by 0.04∼0.4 dB and objective image quality.

  • This paper presents analysis and design of microstrip Rotman lens operating over wide band and wide steering angle by the contour integral method along with the segmentation method. All mutual coupling, internal reflections between ports and the discontinuity at every junction are taken into account. Equally spaced ports are designed and realized, which make suppress output ripple through the array ports. Impedance matching and mutual coupling between ports are analyzed and optimized using 12 input and 12 output exponential tapers. The measured results of fabricated lens show ${\pm}$ 1.8 dB insertion loss deviation over 6∼18 GHz wide frequency range and beam steering accuracy less than 1$^{\circ}$over ${\pm}$53$^{\circ}$angle and agrees well with the analysis results.

  • Unsteady aerodynamic characteristics of the wing with flaperon flying over nonplanar ground surface are investigated using a boundary-element method. The time-stepping method is used to simulate the wake shape according to the motion of the wing and flaperon over the surface or in the channel. The aerodynamic coefficient according to the periodic motion of the flaperon is shown as the shape of loop. The rolling moment coefficient of the wing flying in the channel is same as that of the wing flying over the ground surface. The variation range of pitching moment is wider when the wing flies in the channel than over the ground surface. The present method can provide various aerodynamic derivatives to secure the stability of superhigh speed vehicle flying over nonplanar ground surface using the present method.

  • Compressive sensing (CS) has drawn much interest as a novel sampling technique that enables sparse signal to be sampled under the Nyquitst/Shannon rate. By noting that the block-based CS can still keep spatial correlation in measurement domain, this paper proposes to adapt sampling rate of each block in frame according to its characteristic defined by edge information. Specifically, those blocks containing more edges are assigned more measurements utilizing block-wise correlation in measurement domain without knowledge about full sampling frame. For natural image, the proposed adaptive rate allocation shows considerable improvement compared with fixed subrate block-based CS in both terms of objective (up to 3.29 dB gain) and subjective qualities.

  • This paper performed the prediction of the acoustic loads applied to the surface of the flight vehicle during flight. Acoustic loads during flight arise from the pressure fluctuations on the surface of body. The conventional method of predicting the acoustic loads in flight uses semi-empirical method derived from theoretical and experimental results. However, there is a limit in obtaining the flow characteristics and the boundary layer parameters of the flight vehicle which are used as the input values of the empirical equation through experiments. Therefore, in this paper, we use the hybrid method which combines the results of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) with semi-empirical methods to predict the acoustic loads acting on flight vehicle during flight. For the flight vehicle with cone-cylinder-flare shape, acoustic loads were estimated for the subsonic, transonic, supersonic, and Max-q (Maximum dynamic pressure) condition flight. For the hybrid method, two kind of boundary layer edge estimation methods based on CFD results are compared and the acoustic loads prediction results were compared according to empirical equations presented by various researchers.

  • This paper presents the analyses of the effect of inserting border lines between different color regions on edge detection in color codes, and is not intended to present any new algorithm for color-code recognition. With its role to complement the RFID (radio frequency identification) and the wide and fast spread of digital cameras, an interest on color codes is fast increasing. However, the severe distortion of colors in obtained images prohibits color codes from expanding their applications. To reduce the effect of color distortion it is desirable to process the whole pixels in each color region statistically, instead of relying on some pixels sampled from the region. This requires segmentation, and the segmentation usually requires edge detection. To help detect edges not disconnected, we inserted border lines of the width of two pixels between adjacent color regions. Two colors were used for the border lines: one consisting of white pixels, and the other black pixels. The edge detection was performed on images with either of the two kinds of border lines inserted, and the results were compared to results without inserted border lines. We found that inserting black border lines degraded edge detection by causing zipper effect while inserting white border lines improved it compared to the cases without inserted border lines.
