  • This paper describes the design process of a six-component force/torque (F/T) sensor. The new six-component F/T sensor having leaf spring ends has been developed using a cross beam structure as the basic sensing element. Fundamental strain analysis of both ends fixed beam having a leaf spring structure is performed by finite element analysis. In order to obtain similar output sensing strains from the six component loads and minimize coupling strains, the optimal location of strain gages is determined and the strain gages are connected so that the bridge circuits with four strain gages would be balanced. Using leaf spring ends instead of rigid fixed ends, remarkable increment in output sensing strain can be achieved for two component forces. Several modifications in design result in a similar sensing strain of approximately $400\;{\mu}m/m$ for the six-component forces and moments, and a reduced coupling strain of $0\;{\mu}m/m$ between the forces and moments.

  • Mold may experience deterioration of molding quality as the abrasion of mold occurring due to friction between mold and molded product works as allowance in the course of press process. Therefore, to improve the wear-resistance of mold, methods like nitriding, carburizing, flame and induction surface hardening treatment etc have been applied. However, as such methods are accompanied by problems like shape limitation or product deformation etc, laser surface treatment technology is under review as surface treatment method that can solve such problems. Therefore, in this study, mold material cast iron was surface-treated by using high power diode laser. In previous report 1 and report 2, the heat treatment characteristics were compared by the differences of die materials and shapes, then this paper observed microstructure by using optical microscope and scanning electronic microscope to analyze the structural difference of hardened zone, interface area and base metal after heat treatment. And the structural condition was grasped through EDS. As a result of microstructure, hardened zone showed formation of acicular martensite.

  • Recently many devices print electronic images in a variety of ways. The reproduced color, however, is different from the original color because of the difference of hardware characteristics. To maintain device independent color, gamut mapping method is proposed. The proposed color gamut mapping uses nonlinear intensity mapping and clipping for saturation mapping on HSI color space. In the dithering operation, expanded nonlinear ordered dithering and modified error diffusion are proposed. The proposed ordered dithering uses expanded nonlinear quantization which considers overlapping phenomena of neighbored printing dots. In the modified error diffusion, quantization errors to be diffused are adjusted to improve both image blur and color change produced in the error diffusion. So, the printed image is similar to the image of monitor. Our results indicate that proposed algorithm can produce high quality image in the low bit color devices.

  • In this paper, we propose an region segmentation and texture based feature extraction method which split the pavement and roadway from the camera which equipped to the visually impaired person during a walk. We perform the hough transformation method for detect the boundary between pavement and roadway, and devide the segmented region into 3-level according to perspective. Next step, split into pavement and roadway according to the extracted texture feature of segmented regions. Our walking assistance system use rotation-invariant LBP and GLCM texture features for compare the characteristic of pavement block with various pattern and uniformity roadway. Our proposed method show that can segment two regions with illumination invariant in day and night image, and split there regions rotation and occlution invariant in complexed outdoor image.

  • The performance of road-pavement system is closely related to the constituent materials and their susceptibility to mechanical as well as physicochemical stresses. However, the influence of physical and chemical effects on the road-pavement system due to pollution intrusion has not been investigated fully. To study this topic, thu.;, the interaction of a road-pavement system with pollution sources and environments are identified and discussed preliminarily in this paper. Pollution intrusion to road-pavement system occurs by three basic mechanisms; 1) direct intrusion into pavement surface, 2) intrusion from the Right of way, and 3) physical-chemical-biological alterations. Pollution intrusion potential is closely related to material type, particle size, and climatological and topographical features. Stability and performance of road-pavement system is also directly affected by pollution intrusion. Based on these features, thus, engineers working in related to the road design, construction, and maintenance should be seriously considered this topic.

  • A steam generator of nuclear power plant has thousands of thin tubes. These tubes play an important role in maintaining the pressure boundary between the primary and secondary side of nuclear power plant. The steam generator tube is easy to be damaged because of the severe operating conditions such as the high temperature and pressure. Therefore, tremendous efforts are made to assess the structural integrity of the steam generator tubes. The eddy current test is the most popular non-destructive test to assess the integrity of the tubes. However, the eddy current test has the limitation to size the flaw accurately because the eddy current signal behavior depends on the total volume of flaw. This paper shows the possibility that the ultrasonic test method can be applied to detect the flaws in the steam generator tubes and to measure them quantitatively. From the test results, it is expected that if the ultrasonic test is put to practical use in the steam generator tube inspection, the inspection results will be improved.

  • To study the Cd adsorption in the presence of competing ions in soil-solution interphase, three soil samples from the Bt horizon were taken and analyzed for their physical and chemical properties. Adsorption of ethylene glycol monoethyl ether(EGME) and N, were determined to establish the specific surface area of the soils. We attempted to establish a qeneralizing competitive sorption isotherms for soils of entirely different composition of the solid phase, resulting in the routine use as a guidelines for the fate of reactive solute in soil profiles. Many physicochemical factors including competitive adsorption bettween solutes will affect the general adsorption phenomena as shown in a single not only on the soil:solution ratio used, but also on the surface areas of its respective soil samples. This phenomenon was attributed to competition Cd for sorption sites with Mg by different soil constituents. These adsorption isotherms are able to use as examples to demonstrate that this phenomenon can complicate the development of a standardized batch adsorption procedure as well as interpreting fate and adsorption of toxic inorganic compounds.

  • This study was conducted to identify the characteristics of pauses and breath groups made by normal adults and patients with voice disorders while reading a paragraph. Forty normal female adults and forty female patients with a functional voice disorder (18-45 yrs.) read the "Gaeul" paragraph with the "Running Speech" protocol of the Phonatory Aerodynamic System (PAS), by which the pauses with or without inspiration and between or within syntactic words and breath groups were analyzed. The number of pauses with inspiration was found to be higher in the patient group, but the number of pauses without inspiration was higher in the normal group. The rate of syntactic word boundaries with pauses with inspiration was higher in the patient group, while the number of syllables per breath group was higher in the normal group. As these results can be explained by patients' poor breath support due to glottal insufficiency, the question of whether voice disorder patients use their pauses and breath groups properly should be considered carefully in evaluation and intervention.

  • Underwater acoustic sensor array can detect acoustic signal in underwater and the sensor array can be mounted in each left, right or front side of the UUV(Unmanned Underwater Vehicle). The sensor array could be conformal array and effected turbulent boundary layer flow noise. Therefore, in this paper numerical simulations were performed to know the how the outer flow noise affect the hydrophone which embedded in the elastomer. Corcos wall pressure model was used as turbulent boundary layer flow noise and this model was applied to the frequency density function. Characteristics of transfer function according the kx wave number were simulated and design parameters were thickness of elastomer, density, and modulus of elasticity. Based on the simulation results when increasing the thickness of elastomer noise reduction was increased. This results can be applied to the design of conformal array of UUV.

  • In this paper, we proposed the fuzzy prototype pattern classifier. In the proposed classifier, each prototype is defined to describe the related sub-space and the weight value is assigned to the prototype. The weight value assigned to the prototype leads to the change of the boundary surface. In order to define the prototypes, we use Fuzzy C-Means Clustering which is the one of fuzzy clustering methods. In order to optimize the weight values assigned to the prototypes, we use the Differential Evolutionary Algorithm. We use Linear Discriminant Analysis to estimate the coefficients of the polynomial which is the structure of the consequent part of a fuzzy rule. Finally, in order to evaluate the classification ability of the proposed pattern classifier, the machine learning data sets are used.
