  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the size effect on inelastic behavior of reinforced concrete bridge piers. A computer program, named RCAHEST(reinforced concrete analysis in higher evaluation system technology), for the analysis for reinforced concrete structures was used. Material nonlinearity is taken into account by comprising tensile, compressive and shear models of cracked concrete and a model of reinforcing steel. The smeared crack approach is incorporated. In boundary plane at which each member with different thickness is connected, local discontinuous deformation due to the abrupt change in their stiffness can be taken into account by introducing interface element. The effect of number of load reversals with the same displacement amplitude has been also taken into account to model the reinforcing steel. To determine the size effect on bridge pier inelastic behavior, a 1/4-scale replicate model was also loaded for comparison with the full-scale bridge pier behavior.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the inelastic behavior and ductility capacity of reinforced concrete frame subjected to cyclic lateral load and to provide result for developing improved seismic design criteria. A computer program named RCAHEST(Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology) for the analysis of reinforced concrete structures was used. Material nonlinearity is taken into account by comprising tensile, compressive and shear models of cracked concrete and a model of reinforcing steel. The smeared crack approach is incorporated. The strength increase of concrete due to the lateral confining reinforcement has been taken into account to model the confined concrete. In boundary plane at which each member with different thickness is connected local discontinuous deformation due to the abrupt change in their stiffness can be taken into account by introducing interface element. The effect of number of load reversals with the same displacement amplitude has been also taken into account to model the reinforcing steel. • Conservation and research efforts are currently underway at the National Museum of Korea on a series of artifacts excavated from Tomb No. 9 at Seogam-ri nearly a century ago by an archaeology team from the institution's colonialera predecessor. Among these objects are a number of bronze and gilt bronze buttons. The present study explores the production techniques used in making such buttons. Both bronze and gilt bronze buttons are hemispherical in shape and are similar in external appearance. However, their shanks differ significantly in size and cross-sectional shape, some with a round cross-section while others are square. The buttons, first sorted into two groups by each type of shank, were further subdivided by size. Analysis of round shanks has found variations in design and location as well as in shank thickness. In addition, the location where round shanks attach to buttons are usually irregular in surface. Square shanks, on the other hand, are more uniform in design and location. The shanks are typically located on the backs of buttons and attach to a groove which ostensibly serves to mark the correct position. X-ray imaging has revealed that round shanks have thick borders made from metal rather than dirt or other material. The buttons themselves appear to been cast using lost-wax technique. The ways in which each shank attaches to its respective button varies based on its cross-sectional shape.

  • $In_2O_3$-based thin film sensor with 500-600 nm thick was fabricated for the detection of CO gas by rf magnetron sputtering. In order to improve both sensitivity to CO gas and selectivity to hydrogen gas containing -CH, ultra-thin transition metal Co catalyst was sputtered over $In_2O_3$ thin film and annealed at $500^{\circ}C$. Sensitivity to CO was maximum at the thickness of Co 2.1 nm and $300^{\circ}C$, and that to $C_3H_8$ was at the thickness of Co 1.4 nm and $350-400^{\circ}C$. From the x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) result, ultra-thin Co was existed into CoO covered with $Co_2O_3$ on $In_2O_3$ particles, and thus p-n junction of $In_2O_3(n-type)$-CoO(p-type) was thought to be formed. In this p-n junction type sensors, sensing mechanism with reducing gases can be explained by the variation of depletion layer thickness formed in the interface.

  • The effects of operating temperature and stress on degradation of components in high temperature steam generator were investigated. Several 2.25CrlMo tubes which had operated over 20 years and an unused 9CrlMoVNb tube were tested. For the former samples, the amount of $\textrm{M}_{6}\textrm{C}$ carbide and its size are increased with the aging or operating time. The precipitation behavior of carbides ($\textrm{M}_{2}\textrm{O}$, $\textrm{M}_{6}\textrm{C}$) is changed with the operating temperature of the tubes. However, unused 9CrlMoVNb samples show a different carbide precipitation process due to high chromium, vanadium, and niobium contents. The amount of Cr-rich $\textrm{M}_{23}\textrm{C}_{6}$ carbide is significantly increased with aging time, but that of $\textrm{M}_{6}\textrm{C}$ type carbide is rarely changed with aging time at elevated temperatures.

  • Multi-spectral drones in agricultural observation require quantitative and reliable data based on physical quantities such as radiance or reflectance in crop yield analysis. In the case of remote sensing data for crop monitoring, images taken in the same area over time-series are required. In particular, biophysical data such as leaf area index or chlorophyll are analyzed through time-series data under the same reference, it can be directly analyzed. So, comparable reflectance data are required. Orthoimagery using drone images, the entire image pixel values are distorted or there is a difference in pixel values at the junction boundary, which limits accurate physical quantity estimation. In this study, reflectance and vegetation index based on drone images were calculated according to the correction method of drone images for time-series crop monitoring. comparing the drone reflectance and ground measured data for spectral characteristics analysis.

  • Accurate estimation of the wave-induced pore water pressure in the seabed is key factor in studying the stability of the seabed in the vicinity of coastal structure. Most of the existing numerical models for wave structure seabed interaction have been linked through applying hybrid numerical technique which is analysis method separating the wave field and seabed regime. Therefore, it is necessary to develope a numerical model f3r simulating accurately wave$\cdot$structure$\cdot$ seabed interaction under wave loadings by the single domain approach for wave field and seabed regime together. In this study, direct numerical simulation is newly proposed. In this model, modeled fluid drag has been used to detect the hydraulic properties according to the varied geometrical shape inside the porous media by considering the turbulence resistance as well as laminar resistance. Contrary to hybrid numerical technique, direct numerical simulation avoids the explicit formulation of the boundary conditions at the fluid/porous media interface. A good agreement has been obtained by the comparison between existed experimental results by hydraulic model test and direct numerical simulation results far wave $\cdot$structure$\cdot$seabed interaction. Therefore, the newly proposed numerical model is a powerful tool for estimating the nonlinear dynamic responses among a structure, its seabed foundation and water waves.
