Characterization of Area Installing Combined Geothermal Systems : Hydrogeological Properties of Aquifer (복합지열시스템에 대한 부지특성화: 대수층의 수리지질학적 특성)

  • This study was performed in order to hydrogeological analysis of aquifer, which is a necessary part for evaluating the efficiency of the combined well and open-closed loops geothermal (CWG) systems. CWG systems have been proposed for the effective utilization of geothermal energy by combining open loop geothermal systems and closed loop geothermal systems. Small aperture CWG systems and large aperture CWG systems were installed at a green house land with water curtain facilities in Chungju City. Aquifer tests include pumping tests and step-drawdown tests were conducted to analyse hydrogeological characteristics of aquifer in the study area. The transmissivity was estimated in the range of $13.49{\sim}58.99cm^2/sec$, and the storativity was estimated in the range of $1.13{\times}10^{-5}{\sim}5.20{\times}10^{-3}$. The geochemical analysis showed $Ca^{2+}$ ion and ${HCO_3}^-$ ion were dominant in groundwater. The Langelier Saturation Index and the Ryznar Stability Index showed low scaling potential of groundwater. In the analysis of vertical water temperature change, the geothermal gradient was estimated as $2.1^{\circ}C/100m$, which indicated the aquifer was enough for geothermal systems. In conclusion, groundwater is rich, can stably use geothermal heat, and it is less likely to cause deterioration of thermal energy efficiency by precipitation of carbonate minerals in study area. Therefore, the study area is suitable for installation of the combined geothermal system.

A study of next generation OpenCable systems for Ultra-High Definition television broadcasting (초 고화질 텔레비전 방송을 위한 차세대 오픈 케이블 방식에 대한 연구)

  • This paper examines the potential of Ultra-High Definition TV (UD-TV) broadcasting transmission systems beyond HD-TV over cable channel. Firstly, we analyze the trend of TOV(Threshold of Visibility) by extending the OpenCable (J.83 Annex B) system 256QAM which is the standard of Korean and American cable television transmission to 1024QAM, and realize that the OpenCable 1024QAM has nearly 30% higher data rate than 256QAM at the expense of impractically higher TOV (Threshold of Visibility). To achieve practical TOV, we control code rates of inner convolutional coder and replace turbo coder in forward error correction (FEC) part, thereby analyzing the best performance of the OpenCable systems having conventional FEC. In that result, it is necessary to modify conventional FEC of the OpenCable system to achieve under 31.5dB TOV. Moreover we study the potential of UD-TV transmission via two or more TV channels, so called channel bonding, through the Shannon capacity in 6MHz channel and the relationship with next generation A/V codec technologies.

  • The issue concerning how to integrate with the needs of sustainable development according to Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design(CPTED) theory still continues in the development process of the third-generation theory at the present stage. In addition, the issue is under worldwide controversy and discussion. What is more noteworthy is that the viewpoints under debate and discussion have an influence on the mutual effect and relationship between the theoretical model and the principles in the theoretical model, and the influence can never be underestimated. After a mastery of the overall context of theoretical development, it is believed in this study that the identity of CPTED theory development can provide a diverse understanding dimension and a communication method between the environment and environmental users. On the basis of identity the development of CPTED theory, the crime prevention design mode of CPTED needs to connect different dimensions of sustainability, with the design goal of livability as the starting point, the Top-down model to adjust the safety of the environment. By no means can the environmental condition be improved by solely relying on the previous physical design method in virtue of Bottom-up model. Therefore, in this study, the identity of CPTED will be set as the core combined with Top-down crime prevention design model to propose a visual proposal for the reconstitution of the theoretical model, rather than supplementing the application of the contents or principles at a certain stage. Hence, it is expected to provide reference and enlightenment for the sustainable development of CPTED theory.

Inclusive Impact Index "Triple I" for Assessing Ocean Utilization Technologies (해양이용기술 평가를 위한 포괄적 영향지수 "트리플 I")

  • World population has increased rapidly following the industrial revolution, reaching 7 billion in 2012. Several forecasts estimate that this number will rise to about 8 billion in 2025. Improvements of living standards in developing nations have also raised resource and energy demands worldwide. In consequences, human beings have faced many global and urgent problems, such as global warming, water and food shortages, resource and energy crises, and so on. Many ocean utilization technologies for avoiding or reducing such big problems have been developed, for examples $CO_2$ ocean sequestration, seawater desalination, artificial upwelling, deepwater mining, and ocean energies. It is important, however, to assess such technologies from the viewpoints of sustainability and public acceptancy, since the aims of those technologies are to develop sustainable social systems rather than conventional ones based on fossil resources. Inclusive Marine Pressure Assessment and Classification Technology Research Committee (generally called IMPACT Research Committee) of Japan Society of Naval Architects and Ocean Engineers, has proposed Inclusive Impact Index "Triple I" as an indicator, which can predict both environmental sustainability and economical feasibility, in order to assess the ocean utilization technologies from the viewpoints of sustainability and public acceptancy. This index was considered by combining Ecological Footprint and Environmental Risk Assessment. The Ecological Footprint and the Environmental Risk Assessment are introduced in the first part of this paper. Then the concept and the structure of the Triple I are explained in the second part of this paper. Finally, the economy-ecology conversion factor in Triple I accounting is considered.

Evaluation of Stability in the Purified Wood Vinegar and Its Hair Growth Effect (목초액의 안정성 및 모발 성장 촉진 효과)

  • Generally, it takes a long time to purify wood vinegar, and it contains toxic compounds such as tar, methanol, phenol and benzopyrene. To reduce the toxicity of wood vinegar itself, we have developed a new purification method of wood vinegar using an oxidation-cohesion reaction and distillation with an active carbon. We have investigated the physico-chemical change (pH, specific gravity, refractive index and dissolved tar), the change of amount of toxic compounds (carbonyl group, phenol, benzopyrene and residual solvents) and organic acids (formic acid (FA), acetic acid (AA), propionic acid (PA)) of the purified wood vinegar under the long term and accelerated storage conditions. Also, we have evaluated the effect of the purified wood vinegar on hair growth using an alopecia model of C57BL/6 mice. As a result, we could find out that the purified wood vinegar was stable and remained without decay under the storage conditions and benzopyrene, a carcinogenic agent, was not detected in the purified wood vinegar. After topical treatment of the purified wood vinegar solution or minoxidil (MXD) for 2 weeks to dorsal skin, the hair regrowth of the mice accelerated faster than that of the control, with no clinical signs. In conclusion, we could suggest a guideline for quality control of process to reduce the toxic compounds in wood vinegar and it might be a useful hair growth promoter in the treatment of baldness or alopecia.

  • 멸종위기종의 서식지를 효율적으로 관리하기 위해서는 해당 종의 서식 가능한 지역의 분포를 알아야 한다. 본 연구의 목적은 GIS와 퍼지집합을 이용하여 산양(Nemorhaedus caudatus)의 서식지적합성모형을 개발하여 멸종 위기종의 서식지를 관리하기 위한 정보를 제공하는 것이다. 산양의 서식지적합성모형 개발을 위한 본 연구의 주요내용은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 산양 서식지 이용에 관한 기존 연구를 바탕으로 산양의 잠재적 서식지 환경변수를 분류하였으며, 분석 대상지의 산양 흔적 조사를 통해 서식지 환경변수의 재분류 및 x²검정(Chi-square test)을 통한 변수들의 유용성을 파악하고, 쌍체비교를 통한 환경변수별 가중치를 계산하였다. 둘째, 기존 부울논리(boolean logic)의 단점을 보완하기 위해 현장 조사의 결과를 바탕으로 퍼지논리(fuzzy logic)에 의한 산양 서식지의 각 환경변수별 주제도를 작성하고, 주제도들의 상관관계를 분석하여 상호 관련성이 높은 변수들의 중복을 피하였다. 셋째, 환경변수별 주제도와 변수별 가중치를 바탕으로 다기준평가기법(MCE, Multi-Criteria Evaluation)을 이용하여 분석대상지의 산양 서식지적합성모형을 개발하였다. 마지막으로, 개발된 서식지적합성모형의 타당성을 검증하기 위해 분석대상지 외부 지역을 대상으로 검증을 실시하였다. 분석 결과 분석대상지의 분류정확도는 서식가능성 0.5를 기준으로 93.94%의 매우 높은 분류정확도를 나타내었으며, 검증대상지에서는 95.74%의 분류정확도를 나타내어 본 모형의 분류정확도는 일관성이 높은 것으로 판단되었다. 또한 전체 공원구역에서 서식가능성 0.5이상의 면적은 59%를 차지하였다.퇴적이 우세한 것으로 관측되었다.보체계의 구축사업의 시각이 행정정보화, 생활정보화, 산업정보화 등 다양한 분야와 결합하여 보다 큰 시너지 효과와 사용자 중심의 서비스 개선을 창출할 수 있는 기반을 제공할 것을 기대해 본다.. 이상의 결과를 종합해볼 때, ${\beta}$-glucan은 고용량일 때 직접적으로 또는 $IFN-{\gamma}$ 존재시에는 저용량에서도 복강 큰 포식세로를 활성화시킬 뿐 아니라, 탐식효율도 높임으로써 면역기능을 증진 시키는 것으로 나타났고, 그 효과는 crude ${\beta}$-glucan의 추출조건에 따라 달라지는 것을 알 수 있었다.eveloped. Anthocyanin Composition and Characteristics of 'Gaeryangmeoru', 'Kyoho', and 'Hongisul' Grape Varieties ('개량머루', '거봉' 및 '홍이슬' 품종의 anthocyanin 조성과 특징)

  • This study was investigated the anthocyanin composition of 'Gaeryangmeoru', 'Kyoho', and 'Hongisul' grapes cultivated in Korea using ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) coupled to a mass spectrometer (MS) equipped with an ESI (electrospray ionization) source. 'Gaeryangmeoru' is a dark-blue grape used for winemaking that can reach its coloring in unfavorable weather. The 'Kyoho' and 'Hongisul' varieties are hybrid grapes that feature black and pink skin, respectively. The anthocyanins extracted from the peels of grapes were analyzed using UPLC-ESI-MS/MS. Twenty-five anthocyanins were identified in the 'Gaeryangmeoru' and 'Kyoho' varieties, and 21 were identified in the 'Hongisul' variety. Eight, 14 and five predominant anthocyanins were identified in 'Gaeryangmeoru', 'Kyoho' and 'Hongisul' grape respectively. In all three varieties, mono-glucosides were 2.3-5.9 times more abundant than di-glucoside. Malvidin was the predominant anthocyanidin in 'Gaeryangmeoru' (44.1%) and 'Kyoho' (56.5%), but cyanidin (96.8%) was in 'Hongisul'. The acylated anthocyanins in 'Gaeryangmeoru' (2.0%) were rare, whereas acylated anthocyanins with p-coumaric acid were predominant in 'Kyoho' (40.9%) and 'Hongisul' (70.7%). In particular, cyanidin feruloyl glucoside was found only in the 'Hongisul' cultivar and considered to be useful as a criterion for identification of the variety. As a result, the grape varieties were demonstrated to have variety-specific anthocyanin characteristics, enabling classification based on anthocyanin composition in terms of anthocyanidins, glucosylation and acylation. The taxonomical application of anthocyanin composition confirmed the possibility that 'Gaeryangmeoru' originated from Vitis amurensis or its hybrids, and the 'Hongisul' grape was distinguished from other grapes by cyanidin feruloyl glucoside.

A Study on the Utilization of Effluent Treated by Double Process Using Fixed-media and Sand Filter Coated by Nano Silver for Wastewater Reclamation and Reusing System (고정상 담체와 은나노 모래여과를 이용한 이중 공정에서 처리수의 중수도 활용에 관한 연구)

  • This study focused on the availability of wastewater reclamation and reusing system as one of the alternatives against the global water shortage in near future, which system is composed of two treatment steps; first, wastewater is injected into upflow $A^2O$ biofilm process(anaerobic/anoxic/oxic) reactor filled with polyethylene fixed-media, and the effluent of 1st steps continuously passed through downflow nano silver sand filter. The pH of the effluent ranged from 7.39 to 8.06(average 7.84), the $COD_{Mn}$ was $8{\sim}18mg/L$(average 12.1 mg/L), and $BOD_5$ was $2.1{\sim}10.0mg/L$(average 4.9 mg/L), that met all the wastewater reclamation and reusing system criteria. Besides, the SS concentrations of the effluent which was $3{\sim}9mg/L$(average 4.95 mg/L) met the criteria(5 mg/L), showing 94.8% of average removal efficiency. The 99.1% of the average removal efficiency of the E-coliform did not met the criteria(Not detected), which indicates the needs for the following chlorine disinfection treatment with the residual chlorine concentration of above 0.2 mg/L. There are no bacteria on the sand surface coated by nano silver. The removal efficiency of T-N and T-P that could be included into the criteria in the future was 50.3% and 27.2% respectively.

Immobilization of an Enzyme with Chitosan Microbeads (Chitosan Microbeads에 의한 효소고정화)

  • Immobilization of amyloglucosidase (AMG) with chitosan microbead and its possible applications were evaluated. The diameter of chitosan inicrobead was about 1.2 mm and the optimum enzyme concentration for immobilization was 6 mg/ml. The relative activity of the immobilized enzyme was $97.8\%$ at pH 4.2 and $55^{\circ}C$ and the optimum condition for the immobilized enwme was the same to that of free enzyme. In case of temperature above $30^{\circ}C$, the activity of the immobilized enzyme was a little higher than that of free enzyme. The enzyme activities of both free and immobilized were stable for 6 months when stored at $35^{\circ}C$. The optimum temperatures of both enzymes for saccharification of the dextrinized starch were $55^{\circ}C$ while the relative activity of the immobilized enzlme was $62.6\%$.

A Study on Suitability of Technology Appraisal Model in Technology Financing (기술력 평가모형의 기술금융 활용 적합성 연구)

  • The purposes of this research are to verify: first, if the technology appraisal model reflects the company's management performance and the rates of bankruptcy and overdue; second, if the existing classification system of technology levels is suitable; and third, which is the most important appraisal factor that defines the classification system of technology levels. As a result of the analysis, financial performance (stability) and non-financial performance (technology environment) proved to be significant variables in explaining technology ratings. According to the verification of the suitability of classification system, it appeared that there is a significant difference in all appraisal items of all groups. The result of neural networks model verification indicates that the most important variable was the R&D capacity, the second variables which determine the suitability of technology financing were indicators related to the company management. The second variables which determine a company's technological excellence were a company's technological base. To summarize, the technology appraisal model not only reflects both managerial performance and risks of a company, but also anticipates the future by converging the management competence and technological competitiveness into R&D capacity. This implies that if the 'forward-looking' technology appraisal model is integrated into the existing, credit rating model, the appraisal model may have positive impact on improving anticipation and stability.
