A Development of mobile broadcasting monitor for improving reliability on IP-TV Platform based on TIT (TIT 기반에 IP-TV 플랫폼의 신뢰성 향상을 위한 방송 모니터 개발)

  • In korea, TIT(Transport Information Technology) based IP-TV services have been provided in Saemaeul trains and some sections of subway trains, But the software systems for the service performed in alternated fashions and suffered from many problems such as suspension, memory leaking and overflow, These problems increased playback loss time and resulted in bad reliabilities, In this paper, a software TIT monitor is designed and implemented for Monitoring module and Reset module in physically poor environments, The designed system formalized monitoring time intervals for effective monitoring, Through the real experiments, playback time is improved in 7.2% comparing to existing system.

  • The requirement of distributed multimedia applications is the need for sophisticated QoS(quality of service) management. In terms of distributed multimedia systems, the most important catagories for quality of service are a timeless, volume, and reliability. In this paper, we discuss a method for increasing reliability through fault tolerance. We describe the desist and implementation of the ERA running on distributed multimedia environment ERA is a system is able to recover automatically a software error based on distributed multimedia. This paper explains a performance analysis of an error recovery system running on distributed multimedia environment using the rule-based DEVS modeling and simulation techniques. In DEVS, a system has a time base, inputs, states, outputs, and functions.

  • For the purpose of evaluating the availability of manifold safety devices installed in the LPG(Liquefied Petroleum Gas) refuelling stations, the quantitative analysis of the frequency on BLEVE(Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion) scenario was performed. The amount of frequency reduction was the way of assessing safety devices availability. In this analysis, we could find out what sorts of safety devices are essential to satisfy acceptable social risk criteria and are prioritized to install in the future.

  • This study investigated the causes and problems of train operation impediments through the statistics analysis of 8 years'internal data of Daejeon Metropolitan Express Transit. By evaluating the risks regarding the system, equipment, and parts of high risk group, this study measured the Risk Index Severity, and applied the $5{\times}5$ Risk Assessment Matrix which is a method of risk management to calculate the scale of risk to analyze the safety level and allowance range. As a result, the car sector, the most serious risk, followed by machinery and equipment sector showed that the inherent risk. In particular, the door broken and the door rail signaling and control devices due to defects of the vehicle is high, but also the severity, and frequency are showing very frequent additional potential accidents. PSD also had defects in the machinery sector appeared to be the most dangerous of the PSD poor safety gates, it was found that the glass also involve the risk of mishandling and breakage of the PSD. This study intended to contribute to the transportation benefits through the safety and stable operation of Metropolitan Express Transit.

  • PBFT (Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerant) is a consensus algorithm that can achieve consensus by resolving unintentional and intentional faults in a distributed network environment and can guarantee high performance and absolute finality. However, as the size of the network increases, the network load also increases due to message broadcasting that repeatedly occurs during the consensus process. Due to the characteristics of the PBFT algorithm, it is suitable for small/private blockchain, but there is a limit to its application to large/public blockchain. Because PBFT affects the performance of blockchain networks, the industry should test whether PBFT is suitable for products and services, and academia needs a unified evaluation metric and technology for PBFT performance improvement research. In this paper, quantitative evaluation metrics and evaluation frameworks that can evaluate PBFT family consensus algorithms are studied. In addition, the throughput, latency, and fault tolerance of PBFT are evaluated using the proposed PBFT evaluation framework.

A Study on the Cause and Improvement of Crack in the Installing Structure of the Bulkhead of Aircraft (항공기 Bulkhead 체결구조의 균열 원인 및 개선에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to determine the cause of structural defects occurring during aircraft operations and to verify the structural integrity of the improved features. The fracture plane was analyzed to verify the characteristics of the cracks and the fatigue failure leading to the final fracture was determined by the progress of the cracks by the repeated load. During aircraft operations, the comparative analysis of the load measurement data at the cracks with the aircraft design load determined that the measured load was not at the level of 30% of the design to be capable of being damaged. A gap analysis resulted in a significant stress of approximately 32 ksi at the crack site. Pre-Load testing also confirmed that the M.S. was reduced by more than 50% from +0.71 to +0.43, resulting in a sharp increase in aircraft load and the possibility of cracking when combined. Thus, structural reinforcement and the removal of the gap for aircraft cracking sites improved the defect. Based on the structural strength analysis of the improvement features, the bulkhead has a margin of about +0.88 and the fitting feature is about +0.48 versus allowable stress. In addition, the life analysis results revealed an improvement of approximately 84000 hours.

An Efficient Coordinator Election Algorithm in Synchronous Distributed Systems (동기적 분산 시스템에서 효율적인 조정자 선출 알고리즘)

  • Leader election is an important problem in developing fault-tolerant distributed systems. As a classic solution for leader election, there is Garcia-Molina's Bully Algorithm based on time-outs in synchronous systems. In this paper, we re-write the Bully Algorithm to use a failure detector instead of explicit time-outs. We show that this algorithm is more efficient than the Garcia-Molina's one in terms of the processing time. That is because the Bully_FD uses FD to know whether the process is up or down so fast and it speed up its execution time. Especially, where many processes are connected in the system and crash and recovery of processes are frequent, the Bully_FD algorithm is much more efficient than the classical Bully algorithm in terms of the processing time.

  • Our Digital Carousel enables user to share media objects through media synchronization mechanism. We implemented the Digital Carousel so that the users participated in collaborative work may refer shared media or error objects as the same view to others. In this paper, we discuss a method for increasing reliability through fault tolerance. We describe the design and implementation of the ER running on distributed multimedia environment. ER is a system which is able to recover automatically a software error based on distributed multimedia.   • An cluster web server system, one has the problem that does the low availability occured by the high chance of the server failures and it is not easy to provide high performance and availability occuring software aging. In this paper, running cluster web sewers consists of n primary servers and k backup servers, propose software rejuvenation model on performance and switchover time. Based on the various system operational parameters, we calculate to evaluate the rejuvenation policy such steady-state probabilities, availability, and downtime cost. And we validate the solutions of mathematical model by experiments based on various operation parameters and fud that the software rejuvenation method can be adopted as prventive fault tolerant technique for stability of system.

  • A leader is a special process who roles as the coordinator within multiple processes of a group. In a distributed system, leader election is the procedure of electing a coordinator. This is a very important issue for building fault-tolerant distributed systems. When two normal mobile ad hoc networks are merged, there are two leaders. This violates the safety property, so a mechanism to detect and handle are required. In mobile ad hoc distributed computing system, we propose a leader competition protocol and to prove the temporal logic to it. This solution is based on the group membership detection algorithm.
