The adsorption characteristics of the pellet-type adsorbent prepared from water treatment sludge for trimethylamine and ammonia were studied. The surface area and pore volume of the pellet-type adsorbent increased during calcination at $500^{\circ}C$. It was confirmed that the adsorbent prepared from water treatment sludge contained Br$\ddot{o}$nsted and Lewis acid sites. The breakthrough time of the adsorbent for both trimethylamine and ammonia was measured at different adsorbent weights and linear velocities while maintaining constant amounts of trimethylamine and ammonia. The kinetic saturation capacity and the adsorption rate constant for trimethylamine and ammonia were determined at different linear velocities by using the Wheeler equation. It was found that the kinetic saturation capacity and the adsorption rate constant were dependent on the linear velocity. An experimental equation could be derived to predict the breakthrough time of the adsorbent prepared from water treatment sludge for trimethylamine and ammonia at different adsorption conditions.
In Korea, Expressway and National Highway System has been continually managed by their own pavement management system. The pavement condition evaluation system has not been developed for the municipal roads except for Seoul city. Therefore, this study focuses on analyzing the characteristics of distress in major city's pavement and developing the pavement condition index for the municipal PMS. Panel rating and pavement condition survey for the selected pavement sections were conducted for developing pavement condition index. Municipal level pavement condition index(MPCI) was developed by statistical analysis. Also, a sensitivity analysis for each independent variable of the MPCI and comparison with other pavement condition indicies, such as SPI and HPCI, were performed.

Fracture behavior of pre-cracked compact tension specimens made of AISI 4130 steel was investigated using acoustic emission (AE) and ultrasonic C-scan measurements. While each specimen was loaded up to a certain level, various acoustic emission parameters were recorded together with the crack opening displacement (COD). An elastic-plastic finite element analysis was performed to calculate COD and the damage (plastic) zone size ahead of crack tip. Ultrasonic C-scans, in a pulse-echo, immersion mode, were done for mapping the damage zone size. The agreement between the finite element results and the measured COD was satisfactory. Based on AE results, the test specimens were found to show ductile behavior. The slope of the total ringdown counts vs. COD curve was useful to determine the crack initiation. The preliminary C-scan images showed evidence of changes in the amplitude of ultrasonic signal in the damaged region, and the shape and size of the damage zone matched qualitatively with the finite element results. A further work on the damage zone sizing was also pointed out.
Zinc-based sorbents for $H_2S$ removal were prepared. The reactivity of sorbents was investigated by the successive cycles of sulfidation-regeneration at $650^{\circ}C$ in a fixed bed reactor. The desulfurization sorbents were prepared with granulation method to produce a spherical pellet with good attrition resistance. The fresh and reacted sorbents were characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and the characteristics of sorbents on calcination conditons were analysed by Mercury Porosimetery and BET. The reactivity of sorbents decreased as the number of sulfidation-regeneration cycle increased. It is due to the zinc loss and the increase of the diffusion resistance by sintering, cracking and spalling of sorbents at the high temperature.
The effects of active sites and valence states were investigated over $Pd/TiO_2$ catalyst on simultaneous oxidation of $CH_4$ and CO. The Pd species (PdO) crystallite size increased with increasing Pd loadings, which results in enhancement of the activity of $CH_4$ oxidation. Different results from the activity of $CH_4$ and CO oxidation were shown to be dependent on the Pd valence state on the surface of the catalyst prepared through a thermal treatment. XRD and $H_2-TPR$ analysis confirmed that $Pd^{2+}$species was predominated in the calcination catalyst, while $Pd^0$species was predominated in the reduction catalyst. Additionally, it could be found that the valence state of Pd was a more important factor on the catalytic activity than that of factors as the surface area and pore volume. The reaction mechanism of $CH_4$ and CO followed by the valence state of Pd could be identified using FT-IR analysis.
Ti-SBA-15 catalysts doped with lanthanide ion were synthesized using conventional hydrothermal method and they were characterized by XRD, FT-IR, DRS, $NH_3$-TPD and PL. We also examined the activity of these materials on the photocatalytic decomposition of methylene blue. La/Ti-SBA-15 samples with varying lanthanide ions doping maintained the mesoporous structure and the catalysts calcined at $500^{\circ}C$ for 6 h showed the highest crystallinity. With increasing the doping amount of lanthanide ion, the pore size and pore volume of La/Ti-SBA-15 materials decreased but the surface area increased. 1% La/Ti-SBA-15 catalysts showed the highest photocatalytic activity on the decomposition of methylene blue but the catalysts doped with more than 5% lanthanide ions showed lower activity compared to pure Ti-SBA-15 catalyst.

In the unsaturated soil, suction, the negative pore water pressure leads to increases of the yield stress and the plastic shear stiffness of the soil skeleton due to the growth in interparticle stress. Therefore, in this study, the stress-strain relationship based on cyclic elasto-plastic constitutive model extended for unsaturated soil considering the 1st and the 2nd yield functions was induced in order to account for these effects of suction under the dynamic loading condition such as the earthquake. Through the program code considering this relationship and the routine of the cyclic loading with the reversion of loading direction, the numerical simulation of the cyclic triaxial test under the unsaturated condition would be possible. It is expected that the results of this study possibly contribute to the accuracy improvement on the prediction of unsaturated soil behavior under the dynamic loading condition.
Indentation was used to analyze high pressure phases of silicon. Phase transformations on both loading time and loading rate were studied. Micro-raman spectroscopy was used to observe the indentation-induced transformations. As the loading time increased, Si-III and Si-XII disappeared and only a-Si was observed in (111) samples. As the loading time increased, the residual stress was removed by creation of cracks or dislocations. At 0.1 mm/min loading rate, pop-in . At 5 mm/min loading rate pop-in was observed in force/displacement curve of (111) sample, but pop-in was not observed in force/displacement curve of (100) sample. This result indicates that the loading rate affects the volume of phase transformation in silicon.

In this paper, to evaluate and verify safety and performance of new-concept lining board, the experiments and analyses were performed. From the flexural tests, it was noted that the failure occurred at the load of 664kN. At structural analyses based on test results, when the loadings are the unit load 100kN and failure load 664kN, the maximum displacements at the middle part of lining board were 2.58mm and 27.01mm, respectively. In addition, at the elastic range and the plastic range, their load carrying capacities were evaluated as DB-34 and DB-41, respectively. Accordingly, it can be concluded that, since the lining board developed in this study satisfy the design load and structural safety, it supplemented its disadvantages and can apply to construction site.

In this study, a non-linear FEM model is presented to predict the static flexural performance of precast bridge decks with ribbed joint and is verified with previous experiment results through comparison. The several theory of material properties were applied to each mechanical properties in FEM model and FEM model's input variables were determined through experiment result and parametric study. The FEM results showed good accuracy in predicting the structural performance of the specimens and FEM model's average error rate was 5%. Also, each specimen's cracking aspect and failure mode can be predicted through FEM's plastic strain distribution. Thus, this FEM model can be used effectively for predicting the ultimate behavior and parametric study to development of design formula for joint.
