It is required that the space where MMA is held should provide new experience in each contest. It is necessary to prepare very diverse productions for this purpose. While comprehension on this cultural and spatial phenomenon could mean one of starting point of space creation of space designer, it is necessary to study in the contextual aspect including historic and psychological approach. Thus, this study aims to understand one of the diverse meanings of modem space by investigating the space inherent in the phenomenon of MMA.

  • Micro-robots using microprocessor are mainly classified as line-tracer, micro-mouse, and war-robot. This paper presents the development of the war-robot mechanism with vehicle-style using RC-servo motors and actuators using 4-bar linkage and infrared sensors. Especially the algorithm of conquering other war-robots is proposed based on the skill of belly-throw of Korean wrestling.

  • Forefoot injuries are common in runners or martial art athletes, but due to the anatomical stability, collateral ligament injury of the hallucal interphalangeal joint has been rarely reported. We report a college Taekwondo athlete with chronic varus instability of the hallucal interphalangeal joint due to chronic lateral collateral ligament rupture. The patient had been treated with lateral ligament reconstruction and achieved good clinical outcome.

  • This paper examines the history of karate, its utilization as military training, and its value as a national defense sport. Originating from Okinawa, karate was introduced into Japanese military training in the modern era and spread worldwide. During World War II, the Japanese military intensified karate training for close-quarters combat. Post-war, karate was introduced to Western society through the U.S. military presence in Japan. In contemporary militaries, various martial arts, including karate, are utilized in training programs such as the U.S. Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP) and the Israeli military's Krav Maga. These programs integrate techniques from karate, judo, boxing, and other martial arts to create systems optimized for real combat. In military education, karate enhances individual physical and mental capabilities and improves unit combat effectiveness. Rigorous training develops physical fitness, mental resilience, and practical skills for close-quarters combat. Group training fosters camaraderie and unit cohesion. However, due to the changing nature of modern warfare, it is necessary to reconsider the proportion and methods of martial arts training in military education. With the advancement of high-tech weaponry, team operations have become more critical than individual combat skills. Rather than applying traditional karate techniques unchanged, it is essential to modify and develop them to suit modern warfare. Nevertheless, the value of martial arts training, including karate, remains significant in cultivating key soldier qualities such as physical strength, indomitable spirit, and camaraderie. It is anticipated that militaries worldwide will continue to evolve their martial arts training systems in line with changing times.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate diagnosis and treatment of acetabular labral tears in sports injuries. Materials and Methods: From March 1995 to January 2000, We treated 15 patients with acetabular labral tear by sports injuries. There were 6 men and 9 women. Mean age was 41 years old. Running injuries are 5 cases, fighting 3, aerobic exercise 3, swimming 2, climbing 1, bicycle 1. For conservative treatment, we performed medication and observation at least for 1 year. For the patients with arthroscopic surgery, we performed Harris Hip Score (pain and function) preoperatively and postoperatively at 6, 12 months, and evaluated patient’s pain by JOA pain scoring system and postoperative subjective satisfaction. Results: The mean score of HHS improved 15 points with conservative treatments and 32 points with hip arthroscopy. In 4 cases of conservative treatment, there was 1 scale improvement of JOA pain scoring system. In arthroscopic partial labrectomy, all cases were improved to more than 2 scale. Conclusion: We considered that acetabular labral tears occurred associated with sports injuries. So it is important to be interested in enthusiastic diagnosis and appropriate treatment for hip pain caused by sports injuries, especially about acetabular labral tears.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to identify the difference in the quality of muscle contraction and kick movements according to the presence or absence of back pain in body kick movements of mixed martial arts athletes. Method: In this study, four athletes (32.75 ± 4.79 yrs, 172.50 ± 5.20 cm, 77.73 ± 13.28 kg) who have suffered chronic back pain for more than three months and scored 12 points in the Korean version of ODI. Four painless athletes (33.50 ± 4.04 yrs, 174.25 ± 3.10 cm, 83.50 ± 10.21 kg) participated. Results: During the body kick operation, the pain group had significantly higher muscle activity in the right Transversus abdominis and right Rectus femoris compared to the normal group (p<.05). In the rectus abdominis, the muscle activity was significantly lower than that of the normal group (p<.05). Also, the pain group has a higher toe speed than the normal group Significantly slow (p<.05), there was a delay in contraction of the Transversus abdominis. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that chronic pain in the lumbar spine degrades the core's function, resulting in inefficient coordination such as Transversus abdominis contraction delay and Transversus abdominis and Rectus femoris excessive activation to compensate for it.

Methods : The questionnaire composed of 26 items was used as the research tool for this study. The respondents were 84 athletes of Mixed Martial Arts who participated in Spirit MC Amateur League in September, 2007. Data analysis use chi-square examination by SPSS$^{(R)}$ 12.0 program. Results : 1. Frequently, strikers are damaged at face and waist, grapplers are damaged at knee and waist. 2. Frequently, beginers are damaged at muscle and tendon, experts are damaged at bone and joint. 3. Age, career, specialty and injured type have significant correlations. 4. Age, career, training time and concern response have significant correlations. 5. Oriental medical treatment are friendly but not well-known to the athletes. Conclusions : Injuries of Mixed Martial Arts is multifactorial, so approach of athlete's individuality is important.
