  • Most of the match-3 puzzle games supports automatic play using the MCTS algorithm. However, implementing reinforcement learning agents is not an easy job because it requires both the knowledge of machine learning and the way of complex interactions within the development environment. This study proposes a method in which we can easily design reinforcement learning agents and implement game play agents by applying PPO(Proximal Policy Optimization) algorithms. And we could identify the performance was increased about 44% than the conventional method. The tools we used are the Unity 3D game engine and Unity ML SDK. The experimental result shows that agents became to learn game rules and make better strategic decisions as experiments go on. On average, the puzzle gameplay agents implemented in this study played puzzle games better than normal people. It is expected that the designed agent could be used to speed up the game level design process.

  • Game level design is a collaborative work to create a virtual world for a computer game including maps, agents, monsters, objects, players and events based on predefined its game scenario. It is a promising collaborative design application. The game level design generally requires much time and cost, as the size of its target game space becomes huge. However, traditional game level design tools do not provide concurrency control mechanisms among multiple participating game designers. They do not provide consistency of undo and redo mechanisms for erroneous collaborative tasks during iterative modifications and updates of collaborative tasks among multiple designers. In this paper, we propose a concurrency control and a collaborative editing mechanism to enhance productivity of the collaborative game level design. The proposed system provides hierarchical structures of shared objects and a concurrency control mechanism for each object. The proposed system also provides a consistent undo and redo mechanism to enhance modifications and updates on intermediate results of the level design procedures.

  • 3D engines loading, and expansion of the usable capacity, next-generation smartphone game markets are rising briskly by the improvement in CPU processing speed of Phones (hardware of smartphone). Therefore, in creating 3D game characters, realistic and free-form animations in a small screen of a smartphone are becoming important. Through this paper, as a method of creating characters and operating for game characters to cause user's feeling, with NURBS data of MAYA, We completed a face in turns of eyes, a nose, and a mouth, and with Polygon Cube tool, modeled hands and feet. After dividing a cube into half and modeling it, through mirror copying We completed the whole body and modeled the low-polygon. Then to model realistic and free-form characters, We completed each detail with ZBrush and applied Divide level up to 4. Though they might look rough and exaggerated, We tried to express stuck-out parts and fallen-in parts effectively and smoothly with Smooth brush effect, map and design the low-polygon 3D characters.

  • This research aims to analyze gamer's behavior pattern on 'Blade for Kakao' RPG genre based on smart-phone. Three subjects were recruited using the concurrent protocol method to conduct ten episodes in region 1. As a result, it derived four behavior patterns according to the combination of space type affordance and the arrangement affordance of obstacle(monster). The result of this research revealed the forward attack arranged for the fixed obstacles in the wide space, the indirect attack as avoid-type arranged for scattered obstacles in the same space, the hunting up attack once arranged for the crowded obstacles in the same space, and the pulling attack arranged for obstacles in the narrow space. Moreover, it revealed the character growth and the optimization of attack method according to the attribute affordance of the obstacle(monster). This research expect to offer the design guideline for game level design to investigate the relationship between the game play and affordance in RPG genre based on smart-phone.

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze players' emotion pattern for conducting a quest in Role Playing Game(RPG). We have rebuilt up the action and content of gameplay related to category to set up five action classes of game players based on the literature review about the human behavior classification. Moreover, Mabinogi game includes the composition of various quests by story-centered expanse. We classified the quest structure of the tutorial mode, initial state, of its game into the cognitive action. We build the model of the correlation between cognitive behavior patterns of gameplay and emotions derived from targeting ten novices. The result of this research reveals that gameplayers' stimulus levels are identified to emotion pattern. It is enable to grope to concrete the design of the quest and the level in a specified state. Moreover, players' emotion variation is indicated to the type of expression of fun elements. We expect to use a device to induce the curiousness and the challenge for conducting the higher goal of game in the whole.

  • Whether it is an online game or a stand alone game, research will ultimately never stop to increase the degree of realistic expression of visual effects. Recently, realistic characters are appearing in games. Particularly, due to the development of virtual reality technology, RPG games with simulation-based realistic images are becoming popular. The player can experience the story of the game in the game and experience difficulty level by level. As other players, teammates, or enemy characters appear as realistic characters, and the episode of the game expands, the importance of realistic game characters is growing so that they can play more. Adding a realistic game character to a game based on a classic movie character gives the player a more realistic and interesting visual experience. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of realistic character style on the fun and visual effects of games.

  • The objective of this study is to develop an analytic framework to code systematically the gamer's behaviour in MMO(Massively Multi-player Online) gameplay experience, to explore their gameplay as a problem solving procedure empirically. Previous studies about model human processor, content based protocol, and procedure based protocol are reviewed in order to build the outline of the analytic framework related to MMO gameplay. The specific gameplay actions and contents were derived by using concurrent protocol analysis method through the empirical experiment executed in MMORPG gameplay. Consequently, gameplay are divided into six actions : kinematics, perception, function, representation, simulation, and rule (heuristics, following, and transcedence). The analytic framework suitable for MMO gameplay was built. As a result of this study, we found three rule spaces in the problem solving domain of gameplay that are an heuristics, a following of the rule, and a transcendence of the rule. 'Heuristics' denotes the rule action that discovers the rule of game through trial-and-error. 'Following' indicates the rule action that follows the rule of game embedded in game by game designers. 'Transcendence' presents the rule action that transcends that. The new discovered rule spaces where 'Following' and 'Transcendence' actions occur and the gameplay pattern in them is provided with the key basis to determine the level design elements of MMO game, such as terrain feature, monster attribute, item, and skill et cetera. Therefore, this study is concludes with key implications to support game design to improve the quality of MMO game product.

  • We need various methods to develop MMORPG that is game genre which many users use among various game genre using Internet. Specially, to heighten efficiency of distributing work, Object-oriented language such as C++ is used and we need design techniques that can take advantage of enough object-oriented concept when making large-scale game. There is various pattern that can apply in software breakup design in GoF's design pattern for these design techniques. If you apply Observer pattern to Party System Design for forming community between game users, you can easily add new class and maintain system later. Party Play is one of the important system that is used to form game users' community in MMORPG games. The main point that must be considered in Party-Play-System is to divide evenly experience value and acquisition that is got by Party-Play among users according to each user's level. To implement Party Play System that consider maintenance of system, in this paper, we propose a method using GoF's Observer-Pattern, showing you that proposed method which has advantage to dynamic memory allocation and to virtual method call can be used usefully to change object to real time at program run and to add new class and to maintain system new.
