Study on Press-drying of Italian Poplar Board and its Effect on Improvement of Wood Property (이태리포푸라재(材)의 건조성(乾燥性) 및 성질개선(性質改善)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • Press drying was used on italian poplar (Populus euamericana) to find the profitable means of drying. This study was designed to investigate the process of platen drying considering core temperature, drying time, current moisture content, drying rate, shrinkage and recovery, and green volume specific gravity, equilibrium moisture content and dimensional stability of press dried material and air dried material, The drying tests were conducted using 1.5 centimeter thick material at platen temperature of $175^{\circ}C$. The results were summarized as follows. 1. Core temperature was divided into three stages of drying characterized by period initial heating, plateau temperature and rising core temperature. Plateau temperature was 114 to $119^{\circ}C$. 2. The following predicting equations of drying time(y) in different core temperatures were developed for initial thickness($x_1$), initial moisture content ($x_2$) and final moisture content ($x_3$) 3. The predicting equaltion of current moisture content(u) was log u=4.658-0.060t as funtion of drying time(t) and that of drying rate(r) was log r=-2.797-0.049t. Current moisture content and drying rate of air drying were shown in figure 2. 4. The predicting equation of shrinkage in thickness direction(y) was log y=1.933+0.038t as function of drying time(t), and that of expansion in width direction was $y=-0.692+0.043t-0.001t^2$. 5. Thickness shrinkage was increased more than proportional at to pressure increase. Width shrinkage and thickness recovery was greatest at 35psi. 6. Green volume specific gravity of press dried material was 25% greater than that of air dried material. But equilibrium moisture content of press dried material was less 24% than that of air dried material. Antishrinkage efficiency of press dried material were obtained 27.7%.

  • The objectives of this study was to investigate the improvement of thermal kinetics for disposal of sewage sludge using thermal wind drying. The operational parameters varied are the temperature of $130{\sim}170^{\circ}C$ and evaporation velocity WD. Important parameters effect on thermal kinetics for evaporation of water in sewage sludge studied include the drying time, water content of sewage sludge, solids amount of sewage sludge(TS%) by the varied temperature. The saturation point of water evaporation was observed at the drying time of 60 min in conditions of drying temperature $170^{\circ}C$ and drying time of 120 min by drying temperature $130^{\circ}C$ and WD=0.95 m/s. Operation at drying temperature of $170^{\circ}C$ led to higher rate of evaporation than those 130, $150^{\circ}C$ at WD=1.0 m/s and WD=1.0 m/s was higher than WD=0.5 m/s at drying temperature of $130^{\circ}C$.

Quality Characteristics of Dried Squid (Todarodes Pacificus) by Cold Air Drying Process (냉풍건조공정을 이용한 마른오징어의 품질특성)

  • In an attempt to find ways of improving the quality and sanitary state of dried squid, this study compared artificial drying methods i.e. hot air drying and cold air drying with natural drying method. The drying rates of squid were in the order of hot air, cold air and natural drying. However, cold-air drying was slower than natural drying at $7^{\circ}C$. The drying rates increased with increasing drying temperature. When drying temperature was close to the dew point on a dehumidifier surface, which was the case with cold air drying at $7^{\circ}C$, the driving force for dehumidification was lower than under other drying conditions, which resulted in a lower drying rate. There were little color differences between the drying methods and temperature. Squid dried by cold air-drying had better mechanical texture and sensory qualities than with other drying methods. In addition, the cold air drying method maintained superior quality in terms of the contents of amino acids, taurine, EPA, DHA, other fatty acids and a low TBA value than the other drying methods.

  • Experiment were conducted to find out the effective drying method of citrus peel produced in Korea by varying the temperature of hot air, surface area of peels, peels from several citrus varieties and physicochemical treatment of the peel. 1. About $3{\sim}6\;days$ were required to reduce the moisture level of the peel from 70%(wet basis) to 20% at room temperature without forced convection. 2. Drying was speeded up until the temperature of hot air reached $60^{\circ}C$. Beyond that no significant increase in drying rate was observed. About 50 minutes were needed to reduce the moisture level (dry basis) to below 10% at $60^{\circ}C$ by forced convection 3. When the peel surface area was increased twice by cutting the peel into 256 fractions, the overall drying time (the time required to reduce the moisture level to 10%, dry basis) was shortened to 15 minutes from 50 mintes of the original peel. 4. No significant difference in drying rate was observed among the peels from several citrus varieties except Shaddock jabon and Citrus ponki tanaka, which dried more slowly than others. 5. Treatment of $Ca(OH)_2$ and the pressing of the peel before drying were effective in drying only when the initial moisture content was substantially higher.

Effect of Solvents Washing on Chemical and Physical Properties of Dried Soymilk Residue (용매처리에 의해 건조(乾燥)된 두유(豆乳)비지의 이화학적 성질(性質)에 관한 연구(硏究))

  • Soymilk residue was washed separately with acetone, ethanol, isopropyl alcohol and n-hexane, and then dried at $45^{\circ}C$. The dried residues were evaluated for drying rate, color and chemical and functional properties. Washing with acetone resulted in the shortest drying time (1hr) and the highest in protein content (48.8%) and in Hunter 'L' value. The dried residues after treatment with acetone and alcohols showed relatively high values of 4.3-4.7g/g and 8.5-8.7g/g in oil and water absorption, respectively. Addition of the acetone treated residue to wheat flour at a level of 10% affected little in Amylograph viscosity while those treated with other solvents caused a significant decrease in the viscosity.

원적외선 곡물건조기 개발

  • 국내 보급되고 있는 곡물건조기는 열풍형 순환식 곡물건조기가 주종을 이루고 있는데, 이건조기의 경우 곡물이 순환하면서 열풍공급과 템퍼링과정을 반복하면서 건조가 이루어지는 대류열전달 방식을 채택하고 있다. 대류열전달 방식은 복사열전달 방식에 비해 열전달률이 낮기 때문에 건조속도와 열효율이 떨어지며, 건조시 미질 향상과 건조비용 절감에 한계가 있어 왔다. 따라서 건조에너지의 절감과 동시에 고품질 쌀 생산을 할 수 있는 새로운 형식의 곡물건조기술을 확립하고자 원적외선 곡물건조기를 개발하였다. 원적외선은 0.56~l,000$\mu\textrm{m}$의 전자파로서 세라믹 도료표면에 열을 가하면 원적외선 파장대의 강한 에너지를 얻을 수 있다. 이같은 원적외선 에너지를 농산물에 조사시키면 열이 침투하게되고 동시에 농산물의 내부온도가 상승함에 따라 활발한 분자운동을 하면서 수분을 표면으로 이동시키기 때문에 열풍건조방법에 비해 열전달효율이 높고, 농산물을 보다 균일하게 건조가 가능하므로 좋은 품질의 쌀을 생산할 수 있는 특징을 가지고 있다. 시작기는 1회 3,800kg을 건조할 수 있도록 설계하였고, 템퍼링실, 건조실, 열풍실, 승강기 등으로 구성되었다. 원적외선 방사체의 형태는 실린더형이고, 방사체가 설치된 열풍실 위쪽은 타공망, 아래쪽은 방사량을 높이기 위하여 일부 개방된 구조로 제작하였다. 본 연구에서 구명된 원적외선 방사체 길이와 조사거리는 각각 1,470mm, 125mm가 적절한 것으로 나타났다. 시작기의 성능시험을 열풍건조기(대비구)와 비교한 결과 소음은 대비구에서의 94.12dB보다 13% 가량 낮게 나타났고, 건조온도를 45$^{\circ}C$로 설정하고 벼를 건조했을 때 건감률 0.58%,wb로 대비구의 0.47%,wb 보다 23% 높았고, 건조소요에너지도 470kcal/kg - water로 2%의 절감되었다. 또한 건조한 벼를 도정하여 색, 냄새, 윤기, 찰기 등에 대한 관능검사결과는 원적외선 건조방법이 종합기호도가 6.37으로 열풍건조방법 6.13보다 우수한 평가를 받았다. 건조비용은 시작기의 구입가격이 20% 비싸기 때문에 시간당 고정비가 높았으나, 건조성능이 우수하여 건조비용이 69,350원/톤으로 대비구보다 14% 절감되는 것으로 나타났다.

  • This study investigated and discussed the drying characteristics of municipal wood wastes (wood, particle board, medium density fiber-board(MDF)) in the $N_2$ environment with an isothermal thermogravimetric analyzer. The drying rate could be expressed by a first order reaction model on remaining fraction of moisture. The activation energy ranged from 12.72 kJ/g mol to 18.31 kJ/g mol and the frequency factor from 0.2155 1/s to 1.249 1/s.

  • The combination ratio of oyster mushroom cultivation supplements have used poplar sawdust(PS) 50% : beet pulp(BP) 30% : cotton seeds meal(CS) 20%. we substituted cotton seeds meal and beet pulp for food by-product dried wastes(DW) 10, 20. 30% respectively. In case of mixing with DW 10% except from BP, mycelial growth was inhibited a little, but mycelial density was accelerated. The more DW contents increase, the more mycelial growth was inhibited, but mycelial growth was accelerated a little, respectively. In case of mixing with DW except from CS, mycelial growth was similar to control almost. In case of mixing with DW except from CS and BP, mycelial growth was inhibited remarkably. CHUNCHU variety developed resistance to developed than SUHAN variety.
