Cellular Genetic Algorithms(CGAs) are a subclass of Genetic Algorithms(GAs) in which each individuals are placed in a given geographical distribution. In general, CGAs# population space is a regular network that has relatively long characteristic path length and high clustering coefficient in the view of the Networks Theory. Long average path length makes the genetic interaction of remote nodes slow. If we have the population#s path length shorter with keeping the high clustering coefficient value, CGAs# population space will converge faster without loss of diversity. In this paper, we propose Smallest-Small-World Cellular Genetic Algorithms(SSWCGAs). In SSWCGAs, each individual lives in a population space that is highly clustered but having shorter characteristic path length, so that the SSWCGAs promote exploration of the search space with no loss of exploitation tendency that comes from being clustered. Some experiments along with four real variable functions and two GA-hard problems show that the SSWCGAs are more effective than SGAs and CGAs.
The distributed war-game simulation system has been used to represent the virtual battlefield environment. In order to produce a simulation result, simulators connected from a network transfer messages with location information of simulated objects to a central simulation server. This network traffic is an immediate cause of system performance degradation. Therefore, the paper proposes a system to manage and control network traffic generated from distributed war-game simulation. The proposed system determines the moving distance of simulated objects and filters location messages by a distance threshold which is controlled according to system conditions like network traffic and location error. And, the system predicts the next location of simulated objects to minimize location error caused by message filtering. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed system is effective to control the network traffic of distributed war-game simulation systems and reduce the location error of simulated objects.
Many researchers have investigated ways to enhance recommender systems by integrating heterogeneous data to address the data sparsity problem. However, only a few studies have successfully integrated heterogeneous data using knowledge graph. Additionally, most of the knowledge graphs built in these studies only incorporate explicit relationships between entities and lack additional information. Therefore, we propose a method for expanding knowledge graphs by using deep learning to model latent relationships between heterogeneous data from multiple knowledge bases. Our extended knowledge graph enhances the quality of entity features and ultimately increases the accuracy of predicted user preferences. Experiments using real music data demonstrate that the expanded knowledge graph leads to an increase in recommendation accuracy when compared to the original knowledge graph.

Most of previous algorithms of object boundary extraction have been studied for extracting the boundary of single object. However, multiple objects are much common in the real image. The proposed algorithm of extracting the boundary of each of multiple objects has two steps. In the first step, we propose the fast method using the outer and inner products; the initial contour including multiple objects is split and connected and each of new contours includes only one object. In the second step, an improved active contour model is studied to extract the boundary of each object included each of contours. Experimental results with various test images have shown that our algorithm produces much better results than the previous algorithms.

River corridors facilitate dispersal and movement and prevent local extinction of species. As a result of stream restoration projects, which include installation of waterfront and flood control structures, the number of animals, which rely on river corridor, is decreasing. For the study, factors affecting fish assembly were extracted by a species distribution model with the fish data collected from the Seom River in Hoengseong County and City of Wonju, Ganwon Province, Korea between March to October 2013. The riparian connectivity was assessed using species richness and rarity. According to result of the field survey, there were 38 species and 7,061 individuals for fish. The analysis suggests the following. Firstly, factors affecting fish richness in species distribution model results are shown to be velocity, riffle, riparian width, and water width. The accuracy of the model proves to be suitable with the correlation coefficient of 0.83 and MAPE of 19.2%. Secondly, the low rarity area is shown to be straight streams in Jeon river near to Hongseong County and the high rarity area to be streams with large width, existing alluvial area at channel junction between Jeon river and Seom river. Thirdly, according to connectivity results, areas where weirs are installed or riparian buffer area is removed showed low connectivity. The areas where farmland near riparian and forest areas showed high connectivity. The results of this study can be utilized to improve current facilities and enhance connectivity as a restoration guide.

Establishing conservation programs to protect and maintain populations of endangered species are not only a global trend, but also a pursuit endorsed by the Korean Environmental Conservation Act. This study evaluates the feasibility of alternative habitat patches for the endangered butterfly Parnassius bremeri. A portion of habitat of P. bremeri is expected to be fragmented and damaged due to the scheduled construction of the Sangju-Yongduk Highway. A trans fer of the habitat patches of P. bremeri is also scheduled. In order to select an alternative habitat patch, the Mark-Release-Recapture (MRR) method was used to simulate a patch transfer model. The connectedness between habitat are as and the survival of local populations were evaluated for each candidate habitat. It was found that metapopulations with patch distances of <250m showed a 50% connectedness and survival rate in local populations. P. bremeri were expected to migrate at an average distance of 300m. In addition, P. bremeri formed a metapopulation that exhibited intimate patch dynamics that promoted persistence among these patches. Possible candidate habitats including those recommended by local governing bodies were evaluated along with habitats that may counter problems arising from the damage done to the original habitat and habitats that may have a compensatory value equal to that of the original habitat. Based on these criteria, Ansa-myeon township office was selected due to its high scores. This scoring was based on a consideration of a wide range of variables that mark a successful transfer of habitat. These include the amount of funding available, the governing bodies of the possible alternative habitat, and the Expected collaborative effort of local citizens. This decision was collaborated on by incorporating the expertise of various fields of study including biology, ecology, biogeography, ecological engineering, landscape architecture, and social sciences. Therefore, it is suggested that in order to evaluate an alternative habitat for organisms, many social issues as well as ecological issues must be considered.

For effective conservation of endangered wild plants, it is necessary to understand their interactions with environmental factors in each habitat together with life traits of target species. First, the characteristics of their distribution were investigated followed by their monitoring for 4 years focusing on the habitats in the lagoon. Also, their life traits were compared including production of hibernacles, fruits, and seeds by the soil fertilization and light intensities. Next, the information on the species was secured by germination experiment using the generated seeds from the cultivation experiment. The habitat of Glaux maritima var. obtusifolia Fernald in Korea was located in the rear edge of the worldwide distribution and its four habitats were isolated and distributed far away each other. Two of them were located in small salt-marsh and fine sand estuaries formed in the rocky area of the seashore, and the other two were inhabited with the sandy soil in the lagoon which was connected by river-mouth to the sea. Glaux maritima var. obtusifolia Fernald tends to be distributed in the sites where the establishment and growth of the competitor were inhibited by salinity, periodic flooding, and lower layer of the soil to extend a roots. It maintained its population by recruitments of hibernacles and seedling. The production of hibernacle was assumed to be affected by the particle consist of the sand together with organic matters in the soil. Seedling recruitment was observed only in the salt-marsh area located in the rear sites of sand ridge where was the shore of the lagoon. Glaux maritima var. obtusifolia Fernald was observed to have different threatening factors by each population. Its population in Pohang seemed the sedimentation of fine sand which affected the recruitment of hibernacles had been eroded due to the construction of the coastal road. The population in Ulsan appeared rapid expansion of competitor and reduction of its distribution area due to the interruption of eluted water supplied to the habitat. On the other hand, the habitat in the lagoon maintained the population relatively stable. Especially, the population in Songji-ho was determined to be the most stable one. To sustain the population of Glaux maritima var. obtusifolia Fernald distributed in the lagoon, it is suggested that the wide ranged scale of conservational activities is necessary to maintain the mechanisms including the entrance of seawater which belongs to the lagoon, and periodic flooding.
Mass mortality of the Manila clam, Ruditapes philippinarum has been reported all along the west and south coast of Korea for the past several years. As a pathogenic agent, Perkinsus sp., an endoparasitic protozoan has been identified in this study and believed to be responsible for the mass mortalities. Prevalence and infection intensity of Perkinsus sp. was investigated from a Manila clam population inhabiting at Komsoe Bay in the west coast where mass mortality of the clam has been reported. A total of 142 Manila clam, 50 oyster, Crassostrea gigas, 10 ark shell, Scapharca broughtonii, and 5 predatory gastropada, Rapana venosa were examined for the presence and the quantity of Perkinsus sp. Ray's fluid thioglycollate medium method (FTM method) with modified Mackin's infection intensity scale and Choi's quantitative method were used in detecting and quantifying the parasite. All individuals of R. philippinarum examined in this study were infected with Perkinsus sp., indicating $100\%$ prevalence while none of the oysters and the gastropods exhibited the parasite. Six to ten individual hypnospores of Perkinsus sp. were counted from the ark shells. The number of hypnospores in the clam tissues varied from 16,667 to 4,091,667, with a mean number of 1,077,628. Average infection intensity according to Mackin's was 2.87, indicating a moderate infection. A negative correlation was observed between the number of Perkinsus sp. in the tissue and the condition index, a ratio tissue wet weight to shell cavity volume. The clam size and the infection intensity in terms of total number of parasites were positively correlated; the bigger clam, the heavier infection. Such high number of Perkinsus sp. counted in the clams could be enough to cause physiological disturbance of clams, such as retarded growth and reproduction. It is also believed that such a high infection leads mortality of the clam via continuous draining of the energy by metabolic activities and reproduction of the parasites. Correlation between the condition index and the infection intensity observed in this study supports this hypothesis.
Mitologia is about visualizing relations of information in user-oriented method. Most information given in life has invisible relations with each other. By analyzing the common characters and relations of information, we can not only measure the importance of the information but also grasp the overall properties of the information. Especially human relations are the major concerns of social network having several visualization methodologies shown by analyzing relations of each individual in society. We applied social network theory to grasp relationships between characters in Greek mythology representing a limited society. But the current tools of social network analysis have limits that they show the information one-sided way because of the ignorance of user-oriented design. Mitologia attempts to suggest the visual structure model more effective and easy to understand in analyzing data. We extracted connections among myth characters by evaluating classes, frequencies of appearance and emotional links they have. And we raised the understanding of users with furnishing the proper interaction to the information. The initial interface offers 4 kinds of indexes helping to access character nodes easily, while zoom-in function can be used for the detailed relations. The Zoom-in is quite different from usual filtering methods. It makes the irrelative information invisible so that users can find out the characters' relation more easily and quickly. This project suggests the layout to show overall information relationships and the appropriate interactions to present detailed information at the same time.
