  • Bone remodeling is a complex process regulated by various mediators. Cytokines are known to be associated with the mechanically induced response in orthodontic tooth movement. In particular, IL-$1\beta$ stimulates bone resorption and induces osteoclast proliferation. The purpose of this study was to identify and quantify IL-$1\beta$ in human gingival crevicular fluid(GCF), and to investigate the changes in its level during orthodontic tooth movement. Twelve patients(mean age of 19.2 years) were used as the subjects. An upper canine of each patient haying treatment lot distal movements served as the experimental tooth, whereas the contralateral was used as the control. The GCF of compression and tension side of the experimental teeth and the GCF of mesial side of control teeth was taken from the each subject immediately before activation, and at 1, 24, and 168 hr after initiation tooth movement. IL-$1\beta$ amount was detected by ELISA. The concentration of IL-$1\beta$ was higher in experimental group than in the control group after treatment. Its level was elevated after initiation of tooth movement and it was the highest level at 24 hr in compression side of experimental group. But there was no significant change in control group. The results indicate that the change in IL-$1\beta$ level in GCF is associated with orthodontic tooth movement.

  • SEEMP (Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan) guidelines for a ship's GHG reduction include a machinery modification of hull, an installation of energy efficiency enhanced attachment in hardware methods. It is also possible to bring a ship energy efficiency improvement by fuel-efficient operations or in other software methods. Hardware modification or installation on ship can bring financial burdens to a ship company compared to its improvement expectation. On the other hand, Software based energy-saving technology can be applicable on various ship types, and it is also expected high efficiency of ship energy use compared to hardware based technology in perspective of the investment costs and efficiency. In this paper, it is described that the ship handling simulator based evaluation was carried out using representative ship model of bulk, container and VLCC. Simulation environments were separated into 6 conditions according to the sea-state and weather condition, and the operation results were compared with those before and after energy saving system applied The container ship showed the largest FOC save rate after energy saving system applied although the others also showed energy save rate after using the system.

  • To predict the nutritional quality of seafood proteins using a newer in virto model, 10 species of shellfish protein samples were used in determining the extent of in vitro digestibility, trypsin indigestible substrate (TIS), computed protein efficiency ratio (C-PER), discriminant computed protein efficiency ratio (DC-PER) and predicted digestibility which calculated solely from amino acid profile. The content of TIS in eviscerated samples were ranged from 1.10 to 5.09 mg/g solid, whereas the whole samples were ranged from 1.26 to 7.30 mg/g solid expressed quantitatively as mg of soybean trypsin inhibitor. The in vitro digestibility showed $82{\sim}86%$ for eviscerated samples in contrast with $78{\sim}84%$ for whole ones. Therefore, the results suggested that in vitro digestibility of shellfish was influenced by the present of viscera. The lysine content of Mya arenaria, Saxidomus purpuratus, Anadara subcrenata, and Anadara broughronii were lower than that of ANRC casein, but Corbicula fluminea, Cyclina sinensis, and eviscerated Mytilus edulis, were showed the value about 10.0 g/16g N. In all samples, the content of tryptophan and cystein were more higher than those of ANRC casein. The C-PER of whole samples showed the value below 2.0 while the values above 2.5 noted in the eviscerated samples. DC-PER of most samples were greater than those of C-PER and a greater discrepancies were revealed in whole shellfish which possesses the lower in vitro digestibility. The shellfish sample showed a high in vitro digestibility and a low TIS content such as eviscerated ones may need the DC-PER and predicted digestibility procedures rather than C-PER and four-enzyme in vitro digestibility procedure could offer more advantages in predicting the protein quality of whole shellfish samples which have poor in vitro digestibility and high TIS content.
