  • In this paper, a compact circularly polarized metamaterial patch antenna using cross aperture-coupled feed is proposed. The CP antenna utilizes the -1 mode that is induced by the composit right-left handed(CRLH) transmission line. Since the -1 mode has the same properties with the $TM_{010}$ mode of the conventional patch antenna, the circular polarization(CP) can be realized. If two orthogonal modes are excited with $90^{\circ}$ phase difference, the CP property can be obtained. In order to obtain two orthogonal modes and $90^{\circ}$ phase difference, 4 mushroom structures having the shape of square are employed. The width and length of the cross aperture are optimized through the design algorithm. The fabricated antenna is based on RT/duroid5880 substrate and the total area of the 4 mushroom is $0.25{\lambda}_0{\times}0.25{\lambda}_0$. The center frequency of the LHCP(Left-Handed Circular Polarization) antenna is measured as 1.622 GHz and circular polarization bandwidth(3 dB) is measured as 3 MHz. The center frequency of the RHCP(Right-Handed Circular Polarization) antenna is measured as 1.609 GHz and circular polarization bandwidth (3 dB) is measured as 3 MHz, respectively. The measured radiation efficiency of LHCP antenna is 61.1 % and the measured radiation efficiency of RHCP antenna is 54.5 %.

  • The effects of changes in area and location of fire source, fire growth rate, and volume of compartment on the major fire characteristics, including heat release rate, in closed compartment fires were examined. To this end, a fire simulation using Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) was performed for ISO 9705 room with a closed opening. As main result, it was found that the changes in the area and location of fire source did not significantly affect the thermal and chemical characteristics inside the compartment, such as maximum heat release rate, total heat release, maximum temperature at upper layeras well as species concentrations. However, increasinthe fire growth rate and volume of compartment resulted in increase of the maximum heat release rate and total heat release, decrease in the limiting oxygen concentration and increase in the maximum CO concentration. Finally, a methodology for the application of fire growth curves to closed compartment fires was proposed by deriving the correlation of the maximum heat release rate expressed as a function of the fire growth rate and the volume ratio of compartment based on the ISO 9705 room.

  • This study was achieved to investigate the distribution state and the characteristic of Ageratina altissima community in five districts(90.15$\textrm{km}^2$), north of Seoul, Korea. Total distribution area of Ageratina altissima community was 1,860,805$m^2$ and the distribution rate of Ageratina altissima community was 23.7% in Yongsan-gu, Seoul and it was 13.7% in Joong-gu, Seoul including the Namsan-mountain. As a result of correlation between Ageratina altissima community and the actual vegetation, in case of the whole sites Ageratina altissima community was distributed mainly in the Robinia pseudo-acacia forest and in case of Namsan-mountain area it was distributed mainly in the lower layer of the Pinus densiflora forest especially. In case of the whole sites, the distribution ratio of Ageratina altissima community was highest in the Pinus koraiensis forest; on the other hand, it was highest in the Robinia pseudo-acacia forest with planted area excepting the Namsan-mountain. As a result of correlation between Ageratina altissima community and Green Covered Ratio(GCR), the more the distribution ratio of Ageratina altissima community was heigher, the more GCR was higher in case of canopy and understory layer. Especially the distribution ratio of Ageratina altissima community was most high where GCR was over 50%. As a result of correlation between Ageratina altissima community and aspect, Ageratina altissima community was distributed mainly to the west, so we suppose that Ageratina altissima community was distributed mainly in the lower layer of the Robinia pseudo-acacia forest which has fine canopy in the west. We should improve the Robinia pseudo-acacia forest to multi-layer natural forest to control the flourishing Ageratina altissima community in the long term.

  • In order to set up radar cross section(RCS) reduction factors for a target, the scattering point position of the target should be identified through inverse synthetic aperture radar(ISAR) image analysis. For this purpose, ISAR image focusing is important. Maritime ship is non-linear maneuvering in the sea, however, which blur the ISAR image. To solve this problem, translational and rotational motion compensation are essential to form focused ISAR image. In this paper, hourglass and ISAR image analysis are performed on the collected data in the sea instead of using the prediction software tool, which takes much time and cost to make computer-aided design(CAD) model of the ship.

  • This paper presents an asymptotic analysis method using the PO(physical optics) approximation technique to analyze the scattering contribution of an electrically large object partially coated with a radar absorbing material(RAM). By using the feature of the PO technique that can calculate the equivalent current value for each mesh independently, instead of analyzing the entire structure, scattering analysis was performed only by calculating the current on the area where the RAM coating is applied. By the numerical examples, the accuracy and the computation time of the proposed method were verified, and the computational efficiency of inverse synthetic aperture radar(ISAR) of the electrically large objects that require enormous resources is improved.

  • This paper presents an algorithm for retrieving precise radar cross sections(RCS) of various trihedral corner reflectors (TCR) which are external calibrators of synthetic aperture radar(SAR) systems. The theoretical RCSs of the TCRs are computed based on the physical optics(PO), geometrical optics(GO), and physical theory of diffraction(PTD) techniques; that is, the RCS computation includes the single reflections(PO), double reflections(GO-PO), triple reflections(GO-GO-PO), and edge diffractions(PTD) from the TCR. At first, we acquire an SAR image of the area that five TCRs installed in, and then extract the RCS of the TCRs. The RCSs of the TCRs are extracted accurately from the SAR image by adding up the power spill, which is generated due to the radar IRF(Impulse Response Function), using a square window. We compare the extracted RCSs with the theoretical RCSs and analyze the difference between the theoretical and experimental RCSs of the TCR for various window sizes and various backscattering coefficient levels of the adjacent area. Finally, we propose the minimum size of the integration area and the maximum level of the backscattering coefficients for the adjacent area.

  • The aging of plant structures due to industrialization in the 1970s has increased the demand for blast demolition. While blasting can reduce exposure to environmental pollution by shortening the demolition period, improper blasting design and construction plans pose significant safety risks. Thus, it is vital to consider optimal blasting demolition conditions and other factors through collapse behavior simulation. This study utilizes a 3-D combined finite-discrete element method (FDEM) code-based 3-D DFPA to simulate the collapse of a chimney structure in a thermal power plant in Seocheon, South Korea. The collapse behavior from the numerical simulation is compared to the actual structure collapse, and the numerical simulation result presents good agreement with the actual building demolition. Additionally, various numerical simulations have been conducted on the chimney models to analyze the impact of the duct size in the pre-weakening area. The no-duct, duct, and double-area duct models were compared in terms of crack pattern and history of Z-axis displacement. The findings show that the elapse-time for demolition decreases as the area of the duct increases, causing collapse to occur quickly by increasing the load-bearing area.

  • Ventilation rates, inside and outside weather data were measured in a arch-shape single-span plastic greenhouse growing tomatoes. On the roof of the experimental greenhouse, round windows which have a diameter of 0.6 m were installed at intervals of 8m. It showed that the number of air changes in this greenhouse were average 0.17 volumes per minute and in the range of 0.02 to 0.32 volumes per minute. These air changes are insufficient to meet the recommended ventilation rate for commercial greenhouses, and it is estimated that interval of 6 m is appropriate for spring or fall season. For summer season, it is necessary to narrow the space or to enlarge the open area of roof windows. Using the heat balance model, the evapotranspiration coefficients of greenhouse tomatoes were estimated from experimental ventilation data, overall heat transfer and solar radiation. It showed that the evapotranspiration coefficients were average 0.62 and in the 0.39 to 0.85 range. We suggest applying 0.6 as the evapotranspiration coefficient in design of ventilation for the single-span tomato greenhouses.

  • Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) internal derangement, especially disc displacement with reduction (DDwR) is the most common TMJ arthropathy and has been thought to do some effects on masticatory performance. Measuring of maximal bite force has been widely used as objective and quantitative method of evaluating masticatory performance, but previous studies showed various results due to various characteristics of subjects and different measuring devices and techniques. In a few studies about the correlation of bite force and temporomandibular disorders (TMD), some authors reported that bite force and masticatory performance would be reduced in patients with TMD because of pain. But the correlation of changes in structure of articular disc and masticatory performance has not been well investigated yet. In this study, to investigate the influences of non-painful disc change on the masticatory performance, we measured the value of maximal bite force, occlusal contact area and occlusal pressure of 39 patients with non-painful DDwR of the TMJ using pressure sensitive film, and compared it with that of 59 controls. The results are summarized as follows: 1. The maximal bite force (P<0.01) and the occlusal contact area (P < 0.05) of the DDwR patients were greater than the controls. 2. There was no significant difference in occlusal pressure between the DDwR patients and the controls (P > 0.05). 3. The maximal bite force of the male group was greater than that of the female group (P < 0.05). However, the occlusal contact area and the occlusal pressure between the male and the female group didn't show significant difference (P > 0.05). From the results above, we can suggest that DDwR could be a factor of changing bite force, but more controlled, large scaled and EMG related further study is needed.
