  • This study suggests a method to determine optimal seismic retrofitting schemes for existing bridges based on weighting-factored evaluation. According to the recognition for potential seismic risk, various kinds of retrofitting methods are applied to improve the seismic performance of existing bridges. However, the relevant technique is not available to select optimal retrofitting scheme for bridges now. This suggested method weights five factors, structural compatibility, economic efficacy, environmental factor, consturctability and maintenance, and draws out optimal seismic retrofitting schemes. The application of the developed method to one hundred sixty existing bridges verifies the adaptability of this method. As a result, this study provides an idealized retrofitting schemes, and the suggested method could be a guideline to determine the more cost-effective and optimal retrofitting schemes for existing bridges in Korea.

  • Records at closed private universities are simply kept in stacks without the use of records classification systems. However, the systematic management of such records is needed as these are important records that have legal and evidential value during the litigation process. Therefore, this study intends to develop a classification system for recordkeeping at closed private universities aiming to eliminate unnecessary follow-up procedures that may occur because of the absence of a records classification system, and to develop practical tools for managing records at closed universities. To this end, Seonam University, among the 13 transfer records kept by the Korea Advancing Schools Foundation, was selected as the example for this study. The peculiarities of the closing processes and the catalogs of the transfer records were reviewed, and a business function analysis was conducted. Based on the Guidelines for Prescribing Retention Period of University Records by the National Archives and the Ministry of Education, a records classification system for the closed private universities was proposed for the Records Disposition Schedule to handle the uniqueness of closed universities.

  • The Air and Correspondence High School (ACHS) has played a key role as an organization of lifelong learning since 1974. However, extra-curriculum in ACHS has not been operated successfully due to lacks of educational supports and on-line contents. So we surveyed demands of the ACHS teachers and students for successful operation of extra-curriculum, found four subjects that students preferred in the developing activity area which is one of extra-curricular activities, and experimentally developed four on-line contents for extra-curriculum. And we also applied the developed on-line contents to the students of Chongju H.S. After the application, another survey and interview were carried out to measure learner's satisfaction, find out problems of learning with on-line contents and suggest the ways of improving extra-curriculum learning system.

  • Purpose: This study was to assess prevalence of refractive errors and uncorrected refractive errors in elementary school children in Mokpo and uncorrected refractive errors were to be used as the basic data. Methods: Vision tests were conducted on 400 subjects of 1st~6th grades at 3 elementary schools in Mokpo city, and subjective, objective refraction test were also performed to survey uncorrected refractive errors. Results: The prevalence of myopia was 256, 64% of total subjects, Hyperopia was 21, 5.3%, astigmatism was 19, 4.8%. The prevalence of uncorrected refractive errors were increased as higher grade and more oculus dexter higher than oculus sinister. Conclusions: Vision impairment which need an accurate vision correction for elementary school students requires the regular examination and actively correction in order to protect the elementary school students for basic welfare.

  • This is a case report of correction of malunioned maxilla after traffic accident by Le Fort I osteotomy and posterior segmental osteotomy. By this procedure, authors obtained the following results. 1. The malinioned maxilla after traffic accident which had anterior crossbite, posterior open bite and scissor's bite were corrected by Le Fort I osteotomy and posterior segmental osteotomy. 2. No postoperative infection and specific complication were seen in this case. 3. Postoperative intermaxillary fixation was maintained for 8 weeks. And then, the patient could open his mouth in normal range after a week of intermaxillary fixation removal. 4. For rigid fixation and reducing relapse, the osteotomized maxilla was fixed with miniplates.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the academic achievement and college life experience of students in Cambodia and to analyze the effects of college life experiences on academic achievement of college students in Cambodia. The questionnaire survey was conducted using the 'College Student Experiences Questionnaire (CSEQ)' questionnaire of 524 students from five universities in the city of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The data were analyzed using hierarchical regression analysis. The results of this study showed that the experiences of college students 'Computer and Information Technology', 'Course Learning', 'Club and Organization' had positive effects on academic achievement. The implications of this study are as follows: First, colleges have to install more infrastructure for students to easily use computers and the Internet inside the school, and to provide programs to develop ICT skills to all students. Second, college-based efforts are needed to improve the quality of lectures for providing the students' knowledge and skills. Third, students' club and organization participation should be set up in college to find ways to improve students' academic achievement.

  • The recent demographic cliff caused the schooling population to steadily decline and the number of college admissions to sharply drop, which led to the prediction of the Ministry of Education wherein 38 universities in Korea will be closed within the next 3 years. As such, the legal, administrative, historical, and informational values of university records shed light on the importance of the follow-up process and management of closed university records. Although closed university records need to be systematically managed according to legal procedures similar to other public records, there is no practical and clear legal standard for the management of such records at present. Moreover, management standards considering the characteristics of (closed) university records and individual universities' situations and specificity have been insufficient. This study, therefore, examines the ambiguous standards for closed university records management and analyzed relevant problems. Furthermore, an integrated management system is suggested as a way to improve the records management of closed universities.

  • Based on basic studies on the current status index of BF certification application for school facilities according to the BF certification implementation, this study sought to improve the direction of the different BF certification evaluation indexes for school facilities by investigating and analyzing the status of BF Reservation Certification for elementary schools. A comparative analysis of the status and evaluation indexes of 30 elementary schools in the Gyeongsang region that included indicators of external and internal facilities, sanitary facilities, guidance facilities, and other facilities indicated that school facilities are insufficient to discriminate based on criteria and thus need to be updated for accurate grading. For school facilities that are open for anyone to use, quality improvement should be induced by improving standards and adjusting points for items that earn middle and lower grades.

  • The aim of this study is to classify the structure levels and types of the reading program in the secondary school library. The object of analysis is the practice case of the reading program included in 'Occupying School Library by 1318 Bookworms' for recently 10 years. There are 375 cases. According to the analysis result, most of the reading programs have three layers made up of 'blend title- reading activities- educational activities'. And there are classified into eight types (lecture, viewing, presentation, exhibition, making sth, debating, answering a quiz, experience) of the reading activities. The type of reading program depend on how to combine to the educational activities(reading, writing, listening, watching, speaking, making). This attribute of educational activities match up with modularity, completeness itself and organizing system. Through modular process of educational activities, it's possible to design their own reading programs based on the reading activity by adding, compensating other educational activities.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for implementing library collaborative instruction (LCI) through investigating the effects of high school teachers' perceptions and experiences of school libraries on the recognition of LCI. To accomplish it, a questrionnaire survey of 198 teachers in 14 high schools in Seoul was conducted. As a result, teachers' perceptions of school libraries and school library experience had significant effects on the their willingness to implement LCI, which consisted of educational effect(EE), necessity and implementation plan(IP). In short, teachers' perception of school libraries influenced most variables in EE and did not influence necessity. All independent variables had significant effects on IP. This can be interpreted as that teachers recognize the need of LCI, but the perception of EE is influenced by conveying tool for the knowledge of LCI, such as education, promotion, and experience.
