Galvanic Coupling between Carbon Steel and Cr-bearing Rebar in Concrete (콘크리트 내에서의 Cr강방식철근과 보통강재와의 갈바닉 부식에 관한 연구)

  • The galvanic currents between carbon steel and Cr-bearing rebars have been studied in concrete subjected to carbonation and chloride attack. The results revealed that in case of SD345 contacted with Cr-bearing rebar in concrete under chloride attack environment and carbonation environment, the corrosion acceleration by galvanic corrosion is not generated. Therefore, Cr-bearing rebar can be used together with the carbon steel in the new establishment structure.

  • 해양환경 하에서 SS400강의 부식 방지를 위하여 Al과 Al-Mg합금 선재를 이용한 아크용사코팅을 실시하였다. 그리고 다양한 전기화학적 실험으로 내식성을 평가하였으며, 실험 후에는 주사전자현미경(SEM)과 3D 현미경을 이용하여 손상된 표면의 형상 및 손상깊이를 상호 비교하였다.

  • 콘크리트 구조물에 대한 보강공법은 1950년도에 개발된 강판보강공법을 위시로 하여 강연선에 의한 외부프리스트레싱 공법으로 발전하고 있으며, 약 10년전부터는 신소재인 FRP(Fiber Reinforced Polymer)에 의한 보강공법이 본격적으로 개발되어 실용화되고 있다. 강판보강공법은 에폭시 등의 접착제를 이용하여 콘크리트 인장측에 강판을 접착함으로써 강도 및 강성을 증가시키는 공법으로 강판을 보강재로 이용함으로써 공법에 대한 인지도가 높은 장점이 있는 반면, 재료의 가공 및 취급이 어려우며 중량이 커 자중이 증가되는 단점이 있다. 또한, 강재의 부식위험이 상존하고 있어 이에 대한 세심한 배려 및 주기적인 유지관리를 필요로 한다.(중략)

  • TMCP steel has been widely used to construct ships and offshore structures. When it comes to ship and offshore structures, corrosion fatigue damages caused by sea water and fatigue occurred by wave-induced forces usually go on occurring simultaneously. So the fatigue life in corrosion environment is decreased markedly in comparison with that in air. The fatigue crack in corrosion easily initiates on welded joints of structure like as the fatigue crack in air. Therefore it is very important to study the fatigue properties of those of their welded joints as well as steel plates. In this study, rotary bending fatigue tests have been performed to investigate fatigue crack initiation and behavior of fatigue crack growth on CO2 gas weld HAZ of TMCP steel. The fatigue test used the specimens with various stress concentration factors in air and 3% NaCl solution

The study on corrosion of the inner area of closed box-girder for unpainted weathering steel bridges (무도장 내후성 강 교량의 밀폐형 박스거더 내부의 부식에 대한 고찰)

  • Weather proof steels are used for steel bridges due to its high corrosion resistance under atmospheric conditions. However, instead of forming stabilized rust layers, general rust occurs on weather proof steels under high humidity condition close to seawater or shady places. In Japan, therefore, they perform rust stabilization treatment instead of unpainted treatment due to severe atmospheric conditions. However, most of domestic weather proof steels were constructed unpainted in the form of closed box-girder, which makes the periodical repetition of dry and wet hard to occur. For the steel bridges constructed on the Han river, the evaporation of water, dew condensation due to temperature change, and stagnant water due to rain affect harmfully on the formation of passive film on weather proof steels. Thus, in this research, in order to analyze corrosion properties inside the closed box-girder for the unpainted weather proof steel bridge in the waterworks safety zone, multiple ways of analysis such as observation with eyes, cellophane-tape test, steel thickness measurement, surface corrosion potential measurement, electron microscope analysis, and X-ray diffraction analysis of the rust were performed. As a result, unstable rust layer was observed inside the closed box-girder, and severe corrosion was observed on the top and bottom of the flanges due to the effects of stagnant water caused by rain, dew condensation, and de-icing materials.

Performance Evaluation of Recycled Aggregate Concrete Block Reinforced with GFRP (GFRP로 보강된 순환골재콘크리트 블록의 성능평가)

  • Precast concrete blocks are used mainly for score protection, slope protection and riverbed structure protection, etc. Because these concrete blocks are exposed to water or wetting environments, the steel rebar used as reinforcements in concrete blocks can corrode easily. Corrosion of the steel rebar tends to reduce the performance and service life of the concrete blocks. In this study, Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer(GFRP) rebar, which does not corrode, was applied instead of a steel rebar to prevent performance degradation of the blocks. Recycled concrete aggregate and high early strength cement(HESC) were used in the concrete mix for field applicability. The experiment results showed that the workability and form removal strength of the recycled aggregate concrete using HESC showed comparable results to normal concrete and the compressive strength at 28 days increased by about 18% compared to normal concrete. The load resistance capacity of the recycled aggregate concrete blocks reinforced with a GFRP rebar increased by approximately 10~30% compared to common concrete block.

  • To oxide film, $A1_2O_3,\;Ta_2O_5$ and $ZrO_2$, coated on stainless steel (SUS410, SUS304) and pure Fe using RF magnetron sputtering method, the corrosion resistance on oxide coatings was studied using electrochemical measurement. Also, the adherence between film and substarte was studied. The adherence index ( $\chi$ ) was determined by the measure of micro hardness test. In this paper, we know that oxide film coated on SUS304 have better corrosion resistance than that coated on SUS410. In oxide film, the difference of corrosion resistance due to crystal structure have not been showed. In evaluating defect area rate of ceramic coated materials, CPCD method can be used effectively. In the micro-hardness test, with $1{\mu}m$ thickness film, it has only one the value of $\chi$. Above $2{\mu}m$ thickness film, however, get another value of $\chi$ as the cracks in film. The oxide film adhere well on the mild materials such as pure steel than high intensity materials like stainless.

  • The Elasto-magnetic sensor is applied to detect the local cross-sectional loss of steel cables in this study while it was originally developed for measuring the tensile force in the previous works. To verify the feasibility of the proposed damage detection technique, steel bars which have 4-different diameters were fabricated and the output voltage value was measured at each diameter by the E/M sensor. Optimal input voltage and working point are chosen so that the linearity and resolution of results can ensure through repeated experiments, and then the E/M sensor was measured the output voltage values at the damage points of steel bar specimen that was applied the 4 types of damage condition based on the selected optimal experimental condition. This proposed approach can be an effective tool for steel cable health monitoring.

Effect of Milled Glass Fibers on Corrosion Resistance of PSC Grout Mortar (초단유리섬유가 PSC 그라우트의 부식저항성능에 미치는 영향)

  • In this experimental study, effect of milled glass fibers was investigated on corrosion resistance of PSC grout mortar. In order to check whether the mortar mixture with milled glass fibers satisfy the required properties as a PSC grout, time of flow, bleeding and compressive strength measured. The corrosion resistance were investigated through chloride ion migration test, mortar absorption test and surface resistivity measurement. It is confirmed that all proportions with milled glass fibers have better corrosion resistance than that with only OPC binder. Time of flow was reduced but the bleeding was increased to unacceptable level by using milled glass fibers. Consequently, the mix proportion with milled glass fibers for a PSC grout should be modified to have lower water/binder ratio.

An Electrochemical Evaluation of the Corrosion Properties of the Steel with the Type and the Thickness of Metallizing Coatings (금속용사 코팅제의 종류 및 두께에 따른 강재 내식성의 전기화학적 평가)

  • Steel structures exposed to extremely corrosive environment like marine environments and industrial area are generally manufactured by applying various protection treatment to increase their lifetime. Metal spraying is one of the protection methods to overcome some drawbacks of the widely employed technologies. Therefore, lots of research needs to be done to improve the corrosion resistance of steel structures. In this study, the corrosion resistance of steel structures was evaluated with the variation in the type and thickness of metal spray by measuring the corrosion potential and current density. As a raw material for spraying, Zn, Al and their mixture were employed to obtain coating thickness of $30{\sim}100{\mu}m$. Our data indicated that the pure zinc coating with $100{\mu}m$ showed the lowest corrosion potential. In the case of pure Al and Zn 85%-Al 15%, the corrosion potential and current density was decreased compared to pure zinc. It was found that the corrosion potential was decreased with the increase of coating thickness irrespective of the type of the coating.
